ITT, pick three games that you think changed the video games industry forever.
My picks are very much from my time growing up. Feel free to pick games from other periods of time, if you think they were very significant within the games industry.
As you can see, my games are (in chronological order): 1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 2. Grand Theft Auto III 3. Halo: Combat Evolved
I think people sometimes forget just how significant, groundbreaking, and influential these games were. OoT obviously began the 3D Zelda games, as well as influencing other open world games like GTA (one of the Housers said once that anyone making a 3D game who says they haven't copied something from 3D Zelda is lying). GTA III was of course a massive game, being the first 3D GTA game, and the first very successful one. It set the format that is still going to this day and has made billions of dollars in the process. And Halo: CE was massively influential upon console shooters. True, I could have put in Goldeneye 007 for the N64 instead because that came before it and was arguably the seminal console shooter. But I like Halo a lot so I went with that. It introduced things like a two weapon limit, use of grenades, and recharging health, all of which would influence Call of Duty, which became huge in its own right by adopting some of those conventions. Also of course Halo 2 was the first massive Xbox Live title, which would change online gaming forever.
UT03/04 ended up trying to be Halo pretty hard which is pretty ironic since Halo was aping UT more than anything else

halos influence is more of a meta influence than just direct taking of concepts in halo transplanting to other games, halo made gaming near mainstream almost single handedly and also made both console shooters and online gaming on consoles in general a possibility
This one had so much more of an immense impact than any of the other ones posted in here and you haven't even played it because you're an uncultured swine.
>Halo no, no game has taken after Halo and CoD was far more influential, even Halo took from it

Super Mario 64 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Grand Theft Auto III >/threading your own post This

Yes it is literal who garbage, a few assmad boomers on the internet doesn't change that. Nobody gives a fuck about it, if you asked someone to name their favorite FPS game in real life they would instantly say COD, Halo or Half-Life
Jacob Allen
>Halo You never said it had to change for the better so fair enough I guess.
Austin Butler

From this era, I would say destiny. Crazy how much it changed mainstream shit

And if you asked literally anybody who worked on EITHER of those 3, they'd say Doom was a huge inspiration. We're talking influence, you stupid dumbshit.
