Makoto was rapidly sinking into a sand trap and Mai needed to pull her out immediately or Makoto would die. Her actions made perfect sense.

Relius was an awful character. He was ridiculously strong in battle, knew everything and kept pulling new powers out of his ass (such as suddenly being revealed to be the ruler of mages and one of the most powerful magicians to have ever lived when in a previous game he acted as if he had just seen magic for the first time in his life). And despite all that, all he did in the main story was infodump and go around fighting random people while saying "hmm... interesting". The fact that in the end of the story he got up and left was anticlimactic as fuck and felt like a complete disappointment considering how many characters hated him and were gunning for him. Relius was more like a plot device and infodump mouthpiece than an actual character. Makes sense that he's the least popular playable character and even some spinoff characters that have never appeared in the games are more popular than him.

Hakumen is an stuck up asshole who would rather walk across entire continents when the world is in imminent danger of destruction because he doesn't want to get help from anyone. Relius and Kokonoe are supposed to be geniuses but that's mostly reflected by them knowing everything. A number of characters make bad decisions but most aren't stupid. The only stupid characters are Bang, Bullet, Celica, Noel and Tao.

Remix Heart has a heavier emphasis on slice of life element early on and a greater emphasis on action later, but it did have action from the first volume. The fact it has fanservice, which is also the case for the rest of the franchise, doesn't mean that it doesn't have serious parts such as Mai's relationship with her family or Mai's character arc.

It's possible to think of an alternative solution but her actions did made sense within the context of the scene. The fact the manga showed Mai removing her top does not negate that.

Mai's backstory was fine and explained why she had trouble adjusting at school and gave her another reason to keep her identity a secret. And they did a good job with the genderbending since you could see Mai's behavior and way of thinking gradually change over the Remix Heart manga, plus it was one of the few series where the genderbent character actually reflected on what the change meant for her identity. And Mai as a man wasn't bulky but also wasn't a twink. Mai looked different enough as a girl that nobody at the academy recognized her.

Amane's astral has no rhyme or reason; it barely changes Naoto and on the other hand it turns Tager into a plush toy and Izanami into an entirely different person. Stop feeling cheated because it didn't have what you expected.

Played a role in important events as well; if she hadn't helped to stop Cypher then everyone in the military academy, including Jin and Noel, would have died. And if Mai hadn't killed Meifang then the latter would have smelted Takemikazuchi and been able to use it at will to wreck the planet.

And yet none of this is ever referenced in any other work so it might as well be fanfiction lmao

At first she found it awkward to be hugged by her friends but towards the end she happily hugged them to show her affection. Early she didn't openly cry but later on she wasn't embarrassed to cry in front of others. And she stopped showing interest towards other girls and instead started being attracted to boys.

What else could they really do with him for a finale? He was an aloof dude that got to take a gander at the source code for existence and didn't have much of a personal stake or give much of a shit about anything because of it beyond expanding his knowledge and sating curiosity.
The only climatic battle that he could have had that wouldn't have just amounted to "what? how can this be!?" would have been clashing ideologies with Carl, but the boy nowhere near a bad enough dude for it to make sense. Or maybe Kokonoe or Rachel if you want to stretch it a lot.

Mori had said that he wanted to have an ending for Relius but that he had to cut it due to story size constraints. Kokonoe had a connection to Relius due to their common research into the Noxes and she did have a grudge over how he manipulated her then. Also Mai's arcade mode actually set up a confrontation between Kokonoe and Relius but that, like a ton of other things that were set up in the arcade modes, was never followed up in the story mode due to the story size constraints.
