If you think about it, why did DVDs have bigger cases when they could have just fit into CD cases?

I guess perhaps it was because DVD cases were the same height as VHS video tapes, and therefore they would fit into peoples' existing video storage units. Or perhaps it's because media products with bigger cases look more "serious" or something. It's interesting though isn't it? Because obviously the same phenomenon has been carried over into video games - Xbox game cases, PS2 game cases, Gamecube game cases, Xbox 360 game cases, PS3 game cases, Wii game cases, Xbox One game cases, PS4 game cases, Switch game cases - NONE of them need to be as big as they are. All of the discs could go into CD-sized cases. Remember the Dreamcast and the original PlayStation actually did have CD-sized cases.

So yeah it's weird.

Can't go wrong with that. I got it as a Christmas gift the year it came out but only played through it about 2 years ago before I packed up my PS3 in a closet. Really charming game with great combat and ost. Loved how strange it was.

hit the nail on the head with vhs cases, dvds fit in existing vhs racks and differentiated themselves from music CD's.

Therefore getting and manufacturing dvd cases was cheaper, especially for sony, so it became the default size.

PS3 was a good console overall desu. Took ages to get going but it was fine when it hit its stride, even if you don't count stuff that was console exclusive in general like Catherine.
