I will never not be amazed at the amount of variance in scenes that are available according to your progression. That's all I ask for. As much content as possible that is reactive to the player. It's so incredibly satisfying. Which is why Eiyuu Senki is a poor man's Sengoku. I've only encountered one situation so far where the game reacts to a specific approach. Otherwise, everything else plays out regardless. Art is nice, I guess. Can't go wrong with Oyari.

5D is extremely bizarre and completely luck based. 6 isn't very difficult (being a JRPG), but there's a couple wakeup call bosses here and there.

Rance games are known for wildly changing the formula every time. You've got dungeon crawlers, Fire Emblem clones, grand strategy, and even 5D which relies entirely on luck (you spin a roulette to move, you roll a die to see what attack you use, and so on).

While most of his games aren't actually that mechanichally deep, Kichikou and Sengoku really stand out from the rest and they both offer a unique take on grand strategy and the JRPG genre that you won't find anywhere. You may also don't see the appeal of the writing and characters, but even then it still has an enormous cast of varied characters each with their own unique personality and design. The writing may be mediocre at times but still has its moments and the humour is really good, also has an interesting world with lots of worldbuilding and lore across all his games. Steam simply is more convenient for most people due to a variety of reasons, one of them being payment. Though of course many payment processor would fuck off if Steam didn't make a show of cracking down "unacceptable" stuff.

Well I am mostly with you on all points. It's just that I can't help but feel like these forces can't just keep winning without even facing any resistence. That's what I am worried about.
I am not really crying about no Rance on Steam since I was never even interested in getting Rance on Steam and would never recommend someone to get it on there either with the much better alternatives. But I just can't help but worry what this trend might escalate into.

Also. While they are worth little in comparison to much larger, non-doujin titles like these. The booming localizations of doujin eroge since Steam opened up has been nice. I am sure that contributed even though it was already a growing business. Even if most may be RPG Maker/Wolf RPG games.
While things getting too mainstream could indeed be dangerous, I do actually think Steam could probably do quite a lot of good. I think.
