A developer can implement cloud saves on their own. Steam has an API for it, but all a dev needs to do is own a server and direct its users' saves to it. As long as you have a server this is an easy fucking thing to do on your own.

Well we wouldn't have to use launchers at all if it weren't for DRM. I HAVE to have the Steam client installed on my PC and have it actively running to play my games. Same with the Epic store.

It kinda sucks, but it's a compromise we already made to try and make digital distribution a little more appealing to publishers and developers.

If I could just install my games without Steam/Epic/Origin/uPlay etc. on my machine I absolutely would. But that isn't really an option.
