Fire Emblem thread
I normally play with map animations (and I'd turn those off too if I could), but they're really quite nice.
Haven't played any FE in a while. Any challenge run ideas for future playthroughs?
fe expo soon
Challenge run ideas
>PMU: People pick your units, class, pairing, etc
>Draft: you and 4 others draft units similar to sports
>LTC/Rankings
>0% or Negative growths
Oh boy, can’t wait to see what unfinished hack ideas Mangs, Shadowofchaos and FEUniverse have come upcwith.
Which fire emblems are these? Never played FE games in my life but these amazing
The 5th Fire Emblem, Thracia 776.
SNES was a good console graphically and for music for fire emblem.
GBA kind of ruined that.
They’re games for the SNES.
If you want to get into the series, I’d recommend starting with the GBA game Sacred Stones.
First two are Thracia 776, third is Genealogy. To be honest I like their animations more then the GBA games' "the spinning adds more power" animations.
Are all FE indepedent in their stories? I know some of the latest games take place in some kind of alternate realities with some of the same characters but what about the rest?
Because the sprites actually move around, they don't attack then reset.
Don't worry about story. They're all shit. Play for the gameplay
I play short games for the gameplay. If i'm going on a long ride I'd like to watch a semi decent story unfolding.
4->5
7->6
9->10
1/11->3/12
The only ones that connect with each other and even then, you can play them standalone and still get enough context to know what's going on
Various games are connected but long story short: start with a GBA game or Mystery of the Emblem (SNES).
>semi decent story unfolding.
Sorry user, you may want to pass on Fire Emblem.
1(11) and 3(12) are linked with 2(15) being in between as a sort of side story.
(11) (12) (15) are remakes of 1, 3 and 2 respectively.
5 takes place between chapters Seven and Eight of 4.
6 takes place 20 years or so after 7.
8 is the only game not linked to any other game.
9 and 10 are linked with 10 taking place two or three years after 9.
13 takes place 1000 years after 1 and 3 but it's mostly on it's own, apart from some characters from 13 crossing time and space to help out in 14 which is mostly on it's own storywise also.
This ain't it chief.
I'm reminded of a thread where someone broke down just how complex the animations were and turns out they have animations for opening strikes, adept/astra strikes, counter strikes, follow-up strikes and finishing blow strikes. Each of those strikes also have different animations depending on whether the attack will be a normal or critical hit as well.
What game is this? Looks cool
Looks like Berwick Saga the not FE FE game.
Thanks, but do you have any particular recommendations? I'm interested in LTC/Rankings/0% growths but I don't know how well some games work with those conditions. For example, will I be able to do a 0% growths ranked run of FE6 or will the exp and win% ranks be impossible to raise with the weak characters, barring low % tactics like arena abuse?
It's Berwick Saga which is kinda its own thing though it's made by the guy who created Fire Emblem. Tear Ring Saga is the one that's literally Emblem Saga.
The games are divided into series. The series don't really cross over with one another at all, they're self contained stories. Some games like Awakening are in the same series but they take place thousands of years after so it's mostly its own story
The rankings in FE6 are very lenient to the point of not mattering.
The point of 0% growths is to focus on reliability through use of stat boosters, early promoting and getting you to use those rare weapons (silvers, killers, braves, effective weaponry, etc) more often.
FE doesn't change that much on the transition from growths to no growths honestly, mid to lategame prepromotes and even some of the earlygame units like Rutger, Clarine, Saul and Noah can last most of the game
Redpill me on both them. Seems like after the creator left ISIS, he decided to make his own FE and went apeshit with the complexity it looks prettier
Well Berwick saga is a PS2 game so it makes sense compared to FE4/5 which are SNES games.
I seriously doubt it would be so easy. The exp ranking means I need to level up tons of shit characters, 0% growths mean they will be a pain to level, the win% ranking means they can't be too shit or I have to compensate somehow, the turn ranking means I can't sit around abusing anything too much. I'd like to try this but I don't want to do too much preliminary planning to make sure it works (I keep putting off playing the game because of this). Are you aware of anyone that has done this, or have you done it yourself? If so, that would prove that my worries are needless and I can stop postponing my playthrough.
FEfags are the niggers of strategy fans
What are Shining Force fans?
Someone did an LTC of 0% growths FE6 LTC and the only things he failed was funds (he spent it all on boots), and exp/levels since he was LTCing. He had a surplus of about 300-400 turns to grind for EXP/Levels which you can do. The only reason he didn't was because he simply didn't want to do those rankings and instead focused solely on turncounts
Extinct
Berwick saga is apparently good but it's not translated. Tear Ring Saga is kinda worth playing since it does some cool things but it's also a broken mess and I can't even say with confidence that it's better than IS's fire emblem 6.
Tear Ring Saga follows up on some of FE2's mechanics, e.g. the world map with optional battles. Except you have two main characters, only one of them gets the optional wandering around the map stuff, and when the MCs meet up you get to distribute your troops, items, and gold between the two teams. The skills and stuff are a decent iteration of classic fire emblem gameplay (this one avoids the dumb weapon triangle and different weapon types are quite distinct, there is improved dismounting and overall its not overly growth level up based so you're encouraged to utilize a variety of characters depending on the situation). Unfortunately it's very easy and there are silly overpowered weapons like a staff that halves all damage taken for the chapter (though the OP stuff is fun in its own way). Also it's overly wordy.
Different guy
Always wanted to play tear ring saga, it sounds like an unholy combination of Gaiden and Thracia 776 which makes it even better to meme through
>Unfortunately it's very easy and there are silly overpowered weapons like a staff that halves all damage taken for the chapter (though the OP stuff is fun in its own way).
Any other examples
Too many to name them all, here's a few:
- A sword that revives the user whenever he dies. Has 40 uses. If he somehow dies despite having this sword, you get the best character in the game earlier.
- A sword that ignores all enemy defense. It also has high power and low weight. You can repair it with buyable repair hammers.
- A sword with very high might, 80 crit, effective against monsters.
- A sword that takes the enemies items after battle. Including their weapon.
- A tome that prevents the enemy from attacking. Can be combined with the ambush/vantage/whatever skill, but enemies won't even bother attacking you.
- A tome that hits all enemies on the map.
God I love *Sylpheed what a stupid but fun weapon
Wow, weapons really are OP that sword is like equipping a hard mode Rutger
How do you guys prefer getting supports unlocked in GBA games? I'm going through 7 for the first time and it's a pain in the ass to keep people together for support points and put them in the battle at the same time. Do you just grind points right before seizing?
>Do you just grind points right before seizing?
Yes
based kaga-centric thread
*blocks your path*
I still don't understand this one. FE1 and FE3b1 had Barst, FE4 had lex, FE5 had DAGDA and OTHIN, TRS had samson. Meanwhile the games following his departure had poor axe-focused units.
>implying Kaga isn't a axefag
The characters weren't the problem. the axes just weighed a ton, had really low hit and their weren't enough special axes available until FE5
>Make a mid range axe that has brave properties
>So rare that you can barely even find it
KAGA WHY
In FE3b1 hand axes were good, they could double at 1-2 range while javelins could not.
There's quite a few master axes in FE5.
Where can I get more? I know there's probably one asshole general boss with one while you get one from Xavier and Galzus
- Chapter 14 boss
- Chapter 17 boss if you use the thief staff
- Chapter 23 axe general
- Xavier
- Galzus
I guess it's not that many but I find it's enough for me, since Othin can use his own axe and I prefer using the brave axe or other weapons at 1 range for better accuracy.
Penta-Axe General. He shows up in the Saias map, I believe.
Nice, thanks user
I like using them with vantage, makes Halvan fun to use
How could I forget
fire emblem 7 and 12 made the self inserts the correct way
they both excelled only in one thing and weren't the main focus in the games
all the other games in the series did it wrong
fight me if you think otherwise
One thing I really dislike about FE5 is how much the enemy stats can vary. I don't know if it's feasible to change in a hack but I think it would greatly improve the game if a given enemy had 17-18 strength rather than 5-20.
Yeah, while looking for this image, his stats varied by 4 points. The other picture had 13 str instead of 17. I remember a friend showing me 2 endgame snipers whose skill/speed were 5 points different
>12
>having a self-insert that forces themselves into the story and steals the spotlight from Marth and Jeigan
>the right way
You're retarded. Robin was better than the abomination that was Kris.
Is anyone gonna start a new playthrough after 2ndCommander finished up and Nigger’s Tacthack replay fell through?
>nigger's tacthack replay fell through
what?
I was just about to make my thread tonight when I saw this thread.
I'm busy now but I'll totally be playing Vestaria Saga when it comes out in English. Also maybe Three Houses if I can figure out a way to post Switch screenshots quickly.
t. Diet
Oh hey Nigger, was waiting for your thread to start.
kris only excelled at one thing
being a monster at fighting and they only took the spotlight in combat
for someone who was suppose to be god a fighting
they did it right
There should be no self inserts. FE12's MU took way too much spotlight away from the actual Mystery characters. At most, there can be a character that you customize but has no impact on anything else. Perhaps giving the player a handful of customization choices for possible recruited characters before their chapter could work nicely?
Hey Nigger, just the man I was waiting for
Kris had more dialogue than Marth. Let that sink in.
I'd just do what Der Langrisser did
Honestly FE should take more ideas from that game and tactics ogre
You haven't played FE3. Kris ends up stealing the spotlight and practically steals some moments from Marth and Jeigan, like Kris standing up for Marth instead of Jeigan, Kris coming up with the boat idea on the bridge chapter instead of Marth, etc. Kris is the originally self-insert Mary Sue.
He barely plays a role in the story though. There's that one time he gets to suggest a path while originally Marth decided on his own, but that'a it. What you mean are the supports, since Kris has Awakening style universal supports while everyone else is stuck with at best one non-kris support. Kris gets a huge presence through that and the garden chapters, not the main plot.
The issue with kris and robin and corrin are that they're all insufferable annoying little faggots, having a customizable main character or a customizable sidekick character isn't inherently good or bad.
>FE 12
>FE 10
>FE 5
What the fuck is this faggotry? All the games have subtitles. Use them. This isn’t final fantasy.
I really can't be bothered to get past Chapter 9 of Book I of Mystery of the Emblem. Should I just skip to Book II? I've beaten Shadow Dragon and New Mystery.
Name a better Social Knight than MujaHardin.
Oh man I love to play Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow. Its my favorite game. Everytime i boot up Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow, I hear that iconic theme. Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow also provides the greatest challenge in the entire series, it was a shame that Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow was never localized however. Maybe Shadows of Valentia will be as good of a remake as Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow, but my doubts of that are high as Shadows of Valentia seems more like a faithful remake while Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow isn't really. Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem: Heroes of Light and Shadow has a ton of new features and characters that make it different from Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem.
Do it, do it for him
sirius for not being a cuck and cucking nyna instead
If you've already beat Shadow Dragon you might as well just go onto book 2.
...
No
yeah 4 and 5's animation system is fucking amazing. yet another feature dropped by the wayside.
Don't the new games build on this?
Skip to book 2, book 1 is fun but book 2 is better
Fates
>Finishing animations
>Class animations for each skill
>Corrin's Dragon having variants for both crits and tome usage
SoV
>Finishing animations
>Countering animations
>Animations for immediate doubles
That's off the top of my head.
>*Dragon fang
Fixed.
Lex was my man in FE4. He was deleting people left and right with no remorse. He even was the first to promote because he was kicking too much ass. I hated Johan so much because he never lived up to Lex's legacy of axe murdering.
Lack of Vantage and x2 EXP hurts. He's also lamer than lex and Johalva
>tfw the snes games are too slow and boring for me to finish
Alright I'm playing all the FE games in reverse order. I finished Echoes, Fates, Awakening and New Mystery. Anything I should know before going into Shadow Dragon?
It's fun, you get a lot of units, but you should know that after playing new mystery.
You might find it a downgrade from New Mystery since it lacks some features
Weapon ranks, forged weapons and lances are king in this game
>Replaying Echoes again
>Using a spinner to decide which class I will make the villagers as a challenge
>Gray, Tobin, and Faye all become cavaliers with Kliff becoming a soldier
This is going to be a long play through
Langrisser is a lot of fun. Have people done 0% growth runs and LTC runs of langrisser games? Would be neat to see.
Say what you want about the FE community, it's nice to have these hacks and documented challenge run discussion available.
There's like one LTC run of DL on youtube but the commentary is dry and a bit repetitive but still informative except.....
How do you even calculate damage anyway?
Oh cool. Wish the commentary was in text instead but I'll take what I can get.
I can't remember the specifics on how to calculate damage. There can be extreme variances in rare circumstances so I imagine it could be RNG abused, but if I were to do I run I'd aim for more reliable tactics.
Bump
I've only played from GBA onwards, which SNES ones are translated?
FE3 and 4 completely. FE5's is almost done (I think they just recently got to 21/25) but the old shaya patch is a bare minimum story/menu while Zane is menu only
