Come on, everybody knows its happening, Microsoft has done very little to deny it, they even have pages set up talking about how much better Windows is without all those pesky third-party software sources mucking up their nice clean experience (microsoft.com/en-us/windows/s-mode). Once 7 is officially EOL the risk of users running back to the old version on new systems is minimal.
Even if every enthusiast users immediately re-enables legacy mode on the new systems, that's still 19 out of 20 new Windows systems locked in to Microsoft's new ecosystem.

It's already a thing in 'Windows 10S'. It's coming, probably in the next numbered/named big revision (which will be defined by it). This thing has been very slowly growing for a long time, and they've been pointedly insidious in setting up all the DRM shit first, going all the way back to pushing anti-multiboot bullshit during the big UEFI changeover. When the changeover happens there will be no ignoring it (or rather, that point has already come, again Windows 10S).

Valve is eventually going to push Linux HARD, harder than it's ever been pushed before. 'HL3 Linux exclusive' nuclear option shit. Maybe not until Microsoft makes the move first, maybe they'll do it preemptively and sell it as a performance thing (which isn't even completely bullshit).

The only two games "worth" playing on Steam are shit anyway (DOTA and CSGO), i've uninstalled steam and switched fully to Epic and can't be happier.

I don't think it would kill PC gaming, but it would definitely reduce PC gaming to a much more niche audience, but one that would be fully able to rebuild from the ashes.
That's one upside to just about everything Valve has built these last few years, its all open. Anyone can take it and make a gaming platform. If Microsoft kills Valve it will be like when they killed Netscape. It set back the web by a decade or more, but ultimately they completely lost that market.

The community already takes half-working games and makes them playable, and a lot of games are little more than yearly re-hashes of content that could have easily just been a mod. If Steam gets knocked down I wouldn't be surprised to see open game projects finally start to take off, especially now that tools like Godot are available.
