Most people want characters to be in smash purely because they like them from their games, despite the more than likely chance of them not being a good addition to smash, moveset-wise. The playstyle is what people talk about when they say they're too similar. Bayo and dante come from very similar games, in the same genre. Mega Man has WAY more weapons to use than someone like Cuphead, but in smash, Cuphead would end up playing VERY similarly to Mega Man.

At the time Banjo was a major icon at Nintedo. Based on the Banjo games in development during the Rare buyout, the duo had quite the future. I can get that, but what about that thing Sakurai said in an interview about "characters not getting in if their series has no future", that to me is kind of a death sentence for Banjo, and this may be fabricated but I saw in a couple videos that Rare is being a bit of a bitch with banjo atm and theyre not planning anything atm, but I'm open to either Steve or Banjo at this point

Sakurai isn't choosing the DLC characters this time Banjo had a game in 2015, yes enhanced ports count Rare couldn't make a Banjo game if they tried, they haven't had a person with talent working for their company since 2008, but just because Rare isn't working on a new Banjo game doesn't mean one can't happen, Rare has nothing to do with the new Battletoads game thats coming out, and there are plenty of devs that could handle the IP.

I understand that point. If anything it doesnt really mean much because Microsoft holds control over the IP and can easily outsource it to another company. Phil clearly loves the franchise, and I doubt he'd want to do the series dirty by half assing it on a dev group that dont care. Plus the "no future" point is kind of weak sauce due to some of the newcomers have not had a game yet post inclusion. So far there isn't a Pikmen 4, Castlevania game or Game with K.Rool in it.
