What's the appeal of this game? I don't get it. The world seems bland and dead. All the npcs just seem like....well npcs with no life. There is no story, absolutely no character customization. Why do ppl like this shit? how is it even fun?
Dragon's Dogma
It plays like a barren MMO to be honest. The monster riding is just gimmicky and a shallow copycat of Colossus.I don't like the game at all. Feels sparse, repetitive and janky.
Spells are at least cool that powerful ones take time to cast and that friendly fire is a real threat.
The game really shines in Bitterblack Isle, try poking around in there if you haven't yet. I mainly like it for the combat.
lolis
There isn't even lolis. They are literally just the regular models dragged down with a scale slider, and the voices aren't even different they are literally the dame voices but increased in frequency to make their pitch higher. Fucking trash.
This is exactly how I feel as well. Except with less meaningful quests even for mmo standards
it's an adventure game
One word: GRIGORI
Cure for loneliness.
You have to play the game for a while to really understand its complexity and coolness. It’s like a nice mixture of Dark Souls and an Elder Scrolls game with Collossus style combat.
So a lot of exploration, experimentation, and discovery of mechanics is required for you to really appreciate it. Plus the fact that it lets you switch between different play styles and classes without really locking you down to specific upgrades as well as its unique pawn system helps to increase replayability and gameplay potentials.
It's the epitome of missed potential and as much as I like the game, the niggling feeling that the Devs had so much more work to do before it got rushed out never quite goes away because that's exactly what happened.
Someone post the moon image.
because no other game lets me be a little girl who likes to throw rabbits at goblins whenever possible, accompanied by her massive 8' brown amazoness wife
Are there even meaningful items or loot? And how are there new mechanics? Everything seemed the same to me at hour 2 than it did at hour 10
>not a single word about gameplay
Fuck off zoomer.
>The world seems bland and dead
Really? To each their own, but simply running around always felt comfy as fuck for me. Especially on that coastal region by the bandit's fort.
>What's the appeal of this game?
It's a masterwork all, you can't go wrong.
>There is no story, absolutely no character customization
???
it might have the coolest equipment system
It is very bland, but comfy bland like Dragon Quest. The kind of generic that is actually hard to find because you need to make a conscious choice to design a world that generic.
they did fuck up the save though, for nor eason at all. Who the fuck thought having a single save slot would be nice. That and and some ridiculous invisible walls (probably due to lazy bug prevention) are the worst crimes.
I still love it very much though.
Well try playing around with the different classes and try going on various missions. Archers, mages, and fighters and everything in between play so different and have so many unique abilities you are missing out by not experimenting. Also, the map and loot varies greatly in different areas and you can easily stumble onto some really cool unique weapon/armour/something else useful by just exploring and doing missions.
Treating this game like Skyrim where you expect the game to show you all of its cool things will make you miss out on it, because this game DOES NOT hold your hand.
I thought it was boring and shitty at first as well until I decided to go on a mission to a far away corner of the map and found myself in pitch black darkness of night trying to survive onslaughts of enemies I had never seen far away from my home and forcing myself to learn different ways of playing the game (including stealth) to try to survive and complete my mission. That’s when I realized how much more this game was. And once I got the hang of it’s rythm and mechanics, the game opened up so much more with so many more cool things to do that I found which I would’ve never had found if I didn’t take the initiative to explore.
It's got a lot of RPG elements from elder scrolls and other western shit but the big difference here is its got the tight action combat that those games usually lack.
It honestly does take a while to get the appeal and the only reason I gave the game another shot was because I found out Itsuno was behind it AND cuz V loves the shit out of it. Once you get to higher levels you really do get access to crazy skills and a lot of the boss's are cool to fight
People will defend the story and character customization but their nothing special and its not the main attraction. I would reccomend getting a texture and lighting mod to make the world look less whatever. I fault the generation it was made.
>no story
there's plenty of story to be found if you actually do the side quests and pay attention to what people say you imbecile
There was a lot I liked about the game but it did feel as though something was missing, something to bring it all together in a memorable way.
PS: make sure to get the acrobatics skill which lets you double jump so you can start parcouring around cities and other areas. It also lets you get hard to reach loot and helps you escape from enemies that are hard to kill.
Its a sick game but I wish there was more diverse armor sets. People wouldnt bitch if they could make cool looking characters before endgame. I know this because everyone is shallow
trying to get a difficult spot like the game compells you to, incentivizing and rewarding you to.
>spend like 20 minutes failing
>am I lacking skill or hitting one invisible wall
who never?
>Treating this game like Skyrim where you expect the game to show you all of its cool things will make you miss out on it, because this game DOES NOT hold your hand.
>Lets make an open world RPG where the main draw is creating and customizing your own character and exploring freely
>You play as some random hero for the first half hour with no context or setup, followed by hours upon hours of forced tutorials before you get to Gran Soren, where the game proper finally begins
Dragon's Dogma is way more heavy-handed about showing of its cool things than Skyrim. It would have been much more fun if you encountered cyclops and hydra and chimera by yourself for the first time instead of them being mandatory tutorial bosses.
This, it’s basicly the goblin slayer of video games.
Agreed, I wouldn't mind a full DD game of dungeon crawling.
>There is no story, absolutely no character customization
You could have made an argument for everything up until this point, but these two are factually incorrect.
DD is one of those "love it or hate it" kind of games
I... love to hate it sometimes, and hate to love it.
Most of the time, I just wallow in the comfyness of it all.
There’s plenty of other cool bosses and items/loot/abilities/areas that are not shown to you through anything mandatory. Unlike other games that build cool places off the beaten path, these are actually worthwhile to visit as they can sometimes not only change your gameplay but also story.
I hate this because its probably the most misunderstood game
>hours upon hours of forced tutorials
The fuck are you talking about. This game has no tutorial? The closest thing is the hydra battle in the camp because you if you take too long they show you that throwing a gunpowder barrel in its mouth is an easy why to sever a head.
>The fuck are you talking about. This game has no tutorial?
Did you forget the prologue where you play as some random redhairded dude? Or the pawn tutorial where you fight cyclops/hydra? Or the escort mission to gran soren?
The setting feels supremely comfy to me, and the combat is pretty fun. Plus skimpy armors. Always a plus.
Can i make pailolis?
>You play as some random hero for the first half hour
Jesus goddamn Christ you must be atrocious at videogames if that opening sequence took you 30 minutes to complete.
that reminds me, they really should have facilitated modding for this game.
can you imagine how big this game would be if there was chance for waifu retex and full on sex modding?
there's 2 reskin/retex mods
the one with a great has awful tits
the one with reasonable tits has an awful ass (and textures)
you can make pretty much any kinda character
The gameplay.
YOUR MOTHERFUCKING LIFE ENDS 30 MINUTES FROM NOW
i need proof of Oppai lolis
Holy shit are you me? Based user
>because this game DOES NOT hold your hand
No bullshit, this 100%.
Try leaving town at night if you don't believe it. You can't see shit unless you have a lantern with enough oil to light it, and you have to do that from inventory, but even then you can barely see 3 feet in front of you. You wade through a river that's a little too deep, your lantern's out. Now you can't see shit at all until you're dry, and some necromancer fuck is gonna pop up out of the ground and zap you with electricity and oneshot you because "lol you're wet".
And not once, not fucking ONCE, did anyone tell you that needed to take care you aren't soaked in water.
Is there skimpy armor for every class? I want to play an assassin but like some of the mage stuff I’ve seen thus far
That's just the game ramping up in intensity for presentation's sake, it's not really meant to "teach" you any more than any other videogame that gets more difficult as it goes is teaching you.
What I want to know is why the game doesn't inform you that goblins are weak to fire. Or that a dragon's weak point is its heart. Or where the hell the various roads all lead. Or that there are snow harpies coming. Or that the one wolf on the hill isn't hunting alone.
>dagger and shield
Is that DDO? I don't recognize that grapple-wire skill from DDDA.
Yeah, they really made the game incredibly obtuse for no reason at all.
Take Caxton for instance, how am I supposed which items are good and which aren't?
And there's also too many dropped storyline, like who the fuck was the Night's champion in the end? Terrible writing.
>And not once, not fucking ONCE, did anyone tell you that needed to take care you aren't soaked in water.
careful, you are soaked in water
...this pawn sees only water
>that one point in the story where you have to complete assignments for the Duke before advancing into his inner circle
How in the fuck am I supposed to know who to see for assignments?
>seems
Play the game
>There is no story
Did you play the game?
>absolutely no character customization
I guess you didn't
that's the joke
because they literally say "take care you aren't soaked in water!"
come on user
>absolutely no character customization
Tbf you gotta have high IQ to understand it's appeal dawg
>>no character customization
I generally don't like the phrase "y-you just didn't play the game" but it's quite literally like you didn't play the game.
You're shitposting about video games.
>well npcs with no life
Wrong, someone post the timelapse where it show npc activities from dusk till dawn
height to minimum, choose all child-like legs, arms, and chest, then set chest to maximum
the tits don't get THAT big
another patrician, I see
>comfy bland like Dragon Quest
Dragon's Dogma is a video game, not an interactive movie.
Fuck outta here with that garbage comparison.
>You play as some random hero for the first half hour with no context or setup
The intro is about 15 minutes maximum and is given context by then end of the game
>followed by hours upon hours of forced tutorials before you get to Gran Soren
Once again you should be at Gran Soren in the first hour
>HELP Goblins be wrekcing my aught!
kek
>Being the little girl
You are meant to be the Amazon chick
I always say this in DD threads but I'll say it here too:
Dragon's Dogma is one of the few games I ever recommend modding on your first playthrough. There are too many wonky, stupid things about it that you can mod out in a way that increases your enjoyment without ever trivializing the challenge or ruining the game experience, and you really should.
Dragons lair is the movie game user
>they hold the advantage!
This game seems fun. Is it as challenging as Souls?
No, but it's more stylish.
Ludo that can only be experienced by a lack of conventional fast travel.
kys zoomer
wrong
I fulfilled what moot couldn't, my wish came true
and since I primarily played wizard I enjoyed the game far more than anyone else since I was playing on the hardest difficulty
Will I like it if I'm not really into WRPGs like TES?
it has soul, a zoomer wouldn't understand
DD does not have soul you fag.
you don't have a soul, fag
>It's a playing the game decades after release when whining because you're a zoomer
>There is no story, absolutely no character customization.
Are you mentally retarded?
I got 70 hours in the game and I literally do not remember a single thing about it
>I don't get it.
the game isn't for you then
go play something else
don't forgett to lewd your couz in the witch's forest before you set off
{spoiler] I was like, damn I neglected this bitch and then she became a nun, why? oh, she's ugly anyway, goodluck with the cloth
then I fucked many other pre-requisites, including fucking up that bratty, spoiled cuntmacfuckface, obnoxious noble...child's quest
by the time I was about to meet the duke and progress the game I realized I had so many failed pre-requisite quests that I simply had to restart
railroading is weird. You can go through it all, but it won't be fun. And somethings are too specific for noobs to know better, like meeting the queens aid, I actually lucked out on that one because I thought she was cute and went there just to give her some flowers.
and then that fucking queen, I should've let her just die, ungrateful bitch oh, just joking, don't mind me sending you to your death just so hubby doesn't get mad at me for seducing you I know it wasn't a death sentence, but it should've... it's just that it would be game over if they had dared to have any semblance of verissimiliraty in that OPTIONAL quest
The appeal is in creating your waifu and travelling with her. You might not get this at the start, but you start really forming a bond with your pawn after a while. The AI is simple, but it works, it feels like your pawn is learning over time.
The game would be a lot better if the enemy AI wasn't completely retarded. You literally can't die if you aren't retarded.
Yes. It plays like someone shaved Devil May Cry down into an RPG and divided all of Dante's skills/styles among 9 classes instead of wielding them all at once. And then stuck Shadow of the Colossus climbing into it for no reason.
If you like third-person shooters and/or prefer to dodge in action games, play Strider first; if you're more comfortable parrying, play Fighter.
From there, the best classes are Assassin (no unique shit but can mix-match fighter and strider skills), Ranger (more interesting bow skills but less mobility than a strider when shooting), Magick Archer (turns your bow from a third-person-shooter tool to an Armored Core targeting system tool), Mystic Knight (ramps your parry game up to eleven by letting you cast spells via parrying), then there's a huge power-gap in terms of fun, then there's Warrior (not bad if you like playing heavy weapons in MonHun but only has 3 skills which sucks), then another enormous power gap, then Sorcerer, and then an even more enormous power gap, then Mage.
My honest advice is to mod the game so that skills you learn with a weapon as one class can be equipped when playing as another class that uses the weapon (e.g. you can learn a dagger skill as an Assassin, then use that dagger skill if you switch back to Strider).
You do end up getting a fast travel mechanic with the limited fast travel/teleport crystals you can find which you place on the map so you can return to them but outside of that you’re right, it’s a positive that this game does not let you conventionally fast travel.
Damn that sounds amazing. Thanks, I'll buy the PS4 version someday. My PC is shit and won't be able to run the game so no mods for me I guess
Just make sure you get the Dark Arisen version. It’s basically the expanded edition with an extra island for higher level characters which you can go to after you complete the main story
Don't get too excited, game feels largely unfinished, they made like 1/3 of the map they initially had planned
That 1/3rd is still a really huge map
You were fooled by Yea Forums the game is shit and I will explain why:
>No indication of where roads lead
>No hint to what enemies are weak to
>No hint of when enemies are alone or in groups
>No warning to avoid status effects
>No clue to which items are masterworks
I don't know how people defend this game.
Do not get the PS4 version. It looks like ass and it's stuck at 30fps despite that. Get it on PC once you get a new PC.
Lol good fresh pasta
Itsa shit. Yea Forums shills console exclusives until they get ported to PC and are no longer exclusives. Your Smash, Pokimon, R2D2R2 are probably shit too.
get help
I'm not the delusional one, consolefag
>game got ported to PC before PS4 and Xbone
>REEEEEEEE console shills
???
Pretty much.
Muted colours and all the monsters are as vanilla mythology as you get. Easy to relax in a world like that, you don't have someone's edgy OC wyvern assaulting your senses, it's just a traditional dragon that's red and a bit spiky. Chimeras are just chimeras. Hydras are just big snakes.
It all feels grounded.
The combat is so shitty. They should have made it like Monster Hunter but instead it's boring like a dmc game.
Adventuring, exploring the lands, battling mythical beings with a dynamic class / skill system. Making Pawns that other people might be interested in, to join their party. Having a laugh with or without friends at the customized Pawns and rich animations-facial expressions.
Really sad these type of games get blended in with other ''Role Playing Games'' RPGS have a pit bull type of situation going.
>absolutely no character customization
Your other points are legitimate, but this one just isn't true. The character creator is actually pretty good.
It's definitely something. It feels like an action RPG by someone who designed action games, whereas most action RPGs feel like they were by people who designed RPGs. The action is primary in DD, everything else is ancillary. That's part of the charm; with the exception of Souls, there aren't terribly many ARPG titles that are really about player skill more than gear. I mean Instant Reset alone is such a ridiculous skill and there are so many things you can do with it; what other game has ever said "let's make frame-cancelling your animations a stamina consuming ability you can learn and equip"?
Plus, what other game lets you do something this in real-time with no QTEs or cinematic sequences? Just game systems working together naturally. This is what actual DD gameplay is like. You'll be doing shit like this webm all the fucking time.
why can't game want to play nice with gamepads without big picture turned on?
did anyone ran into that problem?
Nothing. The game is just like E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy in that Yea Forums for some reason adores clunky games with poor explanations of what anything does. The more cobbled together and vaguely defined the mechanics are, the more Yea Forums likes to pretend it's some sort of hidden gem, diamond in the rough quirky game.
The storyline might as well not exist, the characters are boring, the graphics are okay. Just try to have as much fun as you can making waifus and pick magic-archer and play until the repetitiveness of the fighting mechanics bores you then move on.
> pick magic-archer and play until the repetitiveness of the fighting mechanics bores you
>use the auto-aim bow and do nothing that requires skill or dexterity until you're tired of the game
God you sound like a fun motherfucker, hoo boy.
As opposed to the clunky as fuck climbing mechanics or being a warrior and spam-jumping for 80% of the game?
lrn2aim, lrn2parry, lrn2juggle, lrn2climb.
Honestly.
Are you actually implying that the game is hard? Nothing you just listed is difficult. It's just boring.
It's only boring if you play boring. The game lets you do a lot of ridiculous stuff, if you choose to pick overpowered gear and stand in the back spamming cheese attacks it's not going to stop you. But it's a little disingenuous to approach the game in the most safe, boring, unfun way possible and then blame the game when you don't have a good time.
It's really fun.
aught___________
is it feasible to play this with just the pawn you created?
can you play with no pawns at all?
are pawns really soulless husks?
the pawns just irritate me. please pardon my reddit spacing.
>What's the appeal of this game? I don't get it.
It's a game made for men. Try it again in a few years.
You can let your pawn die and never bring it back if you really want to solo the game. But you can also adjust their personality to shut them the hell up if that's all you find annoying.
__________Ser________
i wouldn't murder my companion, even if she is weird and creepy. and i don't mind the talking so much, but that could be the memes. it's when they grab items or kill enemies before i do; i wanna do that shit. perhaps it won't be so bad with just the waifu.
Perhaps, but that's not what I said. I said that the game is clunky and its mechanics are clunky and it has little appeal so just blow through it and move on with your life.
but it's not clunky, you're just a casual
The Switch version is probably going to look like utter crap, I can't imagine many people buying it to keep the hope of DD2 alive
This but playing as a shota instead.
Grigori is voiced by a god, and is less 2D than anything in Skyrim or other western adventure games.
Op is clearly trans. You have to be a dickless faggot to not get DD.
Played it last month. It's good but catastrophically unfinished and it shows.
The story and world are as barebones as possible, a huge waste of potential because Gregori is kino af. Enemy variety in the main game is trash and there's nothing of value to find exploring, just stick to the quests. There are entire areas of the map that go unused, not even joking.
The combat feels good and changing classes whenever is also fun but the entire gameplay is brought to it's knees by the absolute worst scaling and damage calculation I've ever seen. You spend 90% of the game either a god or doing zero damage because of how retarded the "defense cap" mechanism is. You'll also spend literally hours on the menus of the game throughout the playthrough.
BBI was better but still a chore and so gear dependent I dropped it halfway through.
6.5/10 overall
good combat and its one of the few games that gets the "Japanese take on DnD first edition" feel right
I can't believe this bait worked.
Build her personality to not do that. You realize that you control how they behave in combat, right? Mine does nothing but enchant my weapons and heal.
I keep meaning to replay this game. Any tips for playing as a swordsman?
