Why do you people like these souls games so much? The settings just look like lame sickdark trash blatantly ripped off of Berserk and Lovecraft's works. It's just so fucking pretentious, I mean, what the fuck is the meaning of this scene here? I can tell the designers just slapped some generic grimdark castle(with nonsensical structure mind you), put it in a sunset and added an eclipse to make it seem more "occult" and "dark". It's just sad. From's games aren't even actually dark, they're just some weirdo's impression of what a dark setting is. They're Artificial Dark.

I was always confused about the architecture in these games. Are those castles and cathedrals built on top of and around the outside of a mountain, or are they really like 3000 + levels of basements with a regular sized building on top?

Witcher 3 is an action rpg done right, with a solid story. Not you stuck picking up items off the ground so you can read some short blurb as "lore".

What Witcher game is closest to the books, where you are just a guy travelling around taking care of monsters of peasants because that is your profession?

depends. 3 has a lot of those quest types where you just go around doing that, but they're extremely generic and boring, and the main quest ruins the witcher feel.

so I'd say 1 still beats it, for all the swamp backtrackery, it overall makes you feel less like the chosen retard
