Is the manga translated yet?
I miss the front mission universe.

Gladly.

Let's talk about the best Front Mission game.

Since its translated, how much will I miss out if I go straight into 5 without playing older games?

>No one ever talks about Front Mission Alternative
Feels bad man, I know it's never been translated, but it's fucking great and I wish they'd made more real time tactics games.

I also wish FM5 still used the awesome hand painted portraits from FM4 and earlier instead of the fuck awful 3D ones.

You actually should be fine. It's a pretty contained story, even though the timeline of it spans the entire Front Mission franchise. It's mostly just about the career of the main character, and following him through his years in service. You'll miss some references, but you'll be fine.

It might spoil you if you try to go back to older ones afterwards, though, because the gameplay is the best in the series.

fm4 sprite art style is fucking atrocious though, looks like a poor fanmade porn conversion for the first sims game

And fortunately, the translation is fantastic. You could swear that it was done by a professional team of translators.

Sorry man, i'll take FM4's portraits and interface over the lazy ass garbage in FM5 any day and there's literally nothing you can say to convince me otherwise.

FM5's UI and Portraits are fucking atrocious, it's literally programmer art tier rubbish, not even indie games are that fucking bad.

3 would do really well with a remaster, so long as they went with the following things:

visually
>Keep the low-poly aesthetic
>fix the PS1 wobbly/jaggy polygon effect
>HD textures that are 1:1 with the originals, with an option to change back to the original low-res textures at any time
>keep all the same CGI FMVs
>have a "split ost" option where you can go with the original like 6 tracks that get constantly looped throughout the game, or with a remastered + expanded ost that's true to the originals but aren't anywhere near as repetitive, with an option to change between them at any time
>rewrite the main character to be less of a whiny bitch

mechanically
>fix the broken mess that is RNG-based special attacks
>overhaul and rework the "web browser" to be more intuitive and easy to nagivate, while keeping the original content and style
>rework/fix the way you "surrender" enemy units so it's not as much of a bitch to obtain special wanzer parts, as long as you know what you're doing (since it's way too much RNG as-is, you can have an enemy in the "check morale" state for like 15 turns in a row when they're literally the only enemy left and they can't even physically attack + are surrounded on all sides by your units, shit's ridiculous)

Ah yes that SRPG series that was never localised and requires an advanced command of Japanese.

This thread will go far.

also

>add more feasible ways to earn money via sidequests or something, maybe even an "arena" thing on the side like with FM1

Redpill me on how come FM3 never reached critical acclaim like other square titles of its time? It's far less flawed than any jRPGs on the system, it has gorgeous presentation and the amount of cool optional content is astounding (in-game internet etc).

Have yet to play it but OST is pretty hype

A lot, the story sucks and is only notable for tying into everything in the universe

The problem with fm5 is that the missions don't feel very distinct to me, every time you take your squad and kill small groups of enemies with team attacks in basically the same way each time. There's a few unique fights but its mostly repetitive. These also not much challenge even on hard mode since you easily heal off any damage you take.

>It's far less flawed than any jRPGs on the system
You can't be serious

Probably because it has "3" in the title, and it was the first Front Mission game to ever be localized
I mean, I personally don't know but that's my initial thought

>fix the broken mess that is RNG-based special attacks
How did this shit even end up in the game? I mean mid-late game is just straight up broken, not unbalanced, not a bit cheesey, but just straight up broken.

Why did you have to pollute our family friendly, civil and intellectual discussion with that webm?

Do you think she brapped as she landed?

Yeah the music is really good.

>missions don't feel very distinct to me
I can see that being an issue for some people. I never felt that way, myself, but I get it. Then again, I was also happy to spend tons of time in the simulator, so take that for what you will.

>How did this shit even end up in the game?
All FM had RNG based special attacks, because RNG manipulation in FM has always been piss easy to manage.
The problem with FM3 is that it's gutter trash on a basic mechanical level.

are the DS FM and FM2 good?

I tried getting into 4 years ago but I found the wanzer customization overwhelming, battles often being too long even with skippable animations and everything been brown and bloomy, rendering areas indistinguishable

Apologies I can delete it

I don't even know why or how it made it in
But I do know it's literally proven to increase the RNG chance if you literally fucking button-mash every input on your controller the entire time you're attacking or being attacked
It's fucking retarded, should have a meter you build up through regular attacks or something

I really enjoyed Front Mission Gunhazard. I also really love SRPGs. Would it be best to start with the first game on the SNES? Would the DS port be better? Are there passable translations out there for most of the series? Thanks.

Why don't you play an SRPG mech series that isn't dead instead?

Attached: ezgif-1-980d91a85702.jpg (625x500, 105K)

forgot to add, all of this is in FM3's case exclusively
It's the only one to suffer this badly with the RNG

DS doesn't have FM2, that's a PS1 exclusive.
The FM remake is a port of the original FM remake on PS, only localized, and it's decent as long as you keep in mind it's a SNES game and the first entry in the series, only with a small additional scenario.
The other DS FM game is a light spin off which is generally considered mediocre.

The DS port of 1 is a totally fine place to start, provided you keep in mind what said.

FM2 has some horrible mechanical quirks with regards to weapon ranges and general combat balance and dreadful fucking battle animations that are too long to watch, but the game feels completely empty if you skip them/disable them. It's in some dire need of a reworking, I like it, but I really can't recommend it and it's without a doubt the weakest of the series.

FM on DS is nice, it's the first game with an official translation, the translation isn't as good as the fan versions, but it's not going to ruin the experience and it's a great game for a handheld.

that artist is terrible and you should feel bad for posting his work

Yeah there's so many ways they could have handled it better, it's such a major thing to have overlooked.

I love FM a lot, but I really wish it wasn't so rife with RNG bullshit. I just want a good mech tactics game with customization and it's the closest we've got.

Sakura Taisen is just as much of a zombie as FM and is barely even on par on any level.
>it's without a doubt the weakest of the series.
FM2 is widely considered the best game in the series together with 5, don't really know what you're talking about.

Such as?

>FM2 is widely considered the best game in the series together with 5, don't really know what you're talking about.
lol

Fm2 is really easy (they all are) and the terrain is too flat and it's true that the battles take a long time

I've never seen anyone talk highly of FM2 ever, 3 yes, 4 yes, 5 yes, even 1, but never 2.

2 isn't readily available in English without patching so it's the best one. That's literally the logic used by anyone who has ever claimed 2 to be the best one.

It's one of the rare pieces of media that features my 3rd world shithole beyond yeah I guess the token brown person was from there this time.

Front Mission is a pretty shit series, I wish it wasn't, but it is.

Mechanically they're all terrible and deeply flawed, some more so than others, but all of them are broken as shit and really not enjoyable or the least bit interesting to play. Aside from that the writing is horrendous, the characters are laughable and the geo politics are equally brainlet tier schlock

I can understand why people might like the series, but you only like it because there's nothing better, not because it's actually good.

The patch only translates half the text in the game so it's super obtuse

The same could be said of all games.

Really made me think.
Oh wait, no it didn't, because no it can't.

Is it necessary to play them all in order? Also how is Battletech?

ive got this sitting on my shelf but hell i can't remember much about it

Perhaps the same could be said of all religions

Rifles suck.

battletech is complete dogshit and you don't need to play them in order

Have you played Zoids Legacy for the GBA? It's a squad based RPG and not an SRPG. But it's got tons of mechs to choose from and hundreds of weapons/parts to equip and upgrade, pilots to use etc. It's like Pokemon, but with highly customizable mechs instead.

Attached: zoids legacy.jpg (480x360, 19K)

Did I hear someone say "customizable mech RPG"?

Attached: MSSagacover.jpg (260x369, 136K)

>Pokemon but with highly customisable mechs
HOLY BASED, thank you user

Same I'm not exactly big on Zoids so I don't get the references but it was a fine game nonetheless.
