Who else never played the first one and hype for Mario Maker 2?
I never realized just how much potential this game has until I started looking at youtube videos of people playing levels. It's completely insane the kind of stuff people have created in Mario Maker, and this makes me look forward to 2 even more.
I just hope there's a good way to share and find levels online.

This is basically a game that cannot fail. Lots of sequels to hit games end up having little problems that cascade into making a worse game despite lots of technical improvements, or just lower-quality level design.

When the only thing that could possibly weaken is QoL stuff, you have an easy GotY here.

It probably won't win GotY if TLoU2 releases this year but if it does, I'd say it deserves it.

The amount of content that they've shown off in that small trailer bit is staggering and we've likely only scraped the surface.

We already know that 2-4 player multiplayer is in too so it's gonna be a blast to play co-op levels with friends.

Me
I doubt it'll be as good as SMBX or any of the SMW hacks but at the same time, a bigger community should make it more enjoyable experience.

Would have like a custom world map and the hammer bros suit tho

It's on PC only user, not a Nintendo product.

Yes, I'm aware. And while it has a lot of technical things going for it, it fails a bit on the fundamentals. Mario doesn't feel that good to play as because the physics are weird.

I've been itching for a 2D Mario game for over a decade, now. I skipped out on the NSMB Switch port, will this game satisfy that itch?

I owned the game and barely played it, and I'm still excited about the sequel.

I just hope it has a better method of delivering good levels to users, I guess? I'm not sure what I want. Very enjoyable to watch Youtubers rage at hard levels, though.

I never played the first one but Mario Maker 2 looks very good.

The original Mario Maker was super fucking fun, it justified blowing money on a Pii U and I probably spent a thousand hours on it. But the new one might get Jewed to death if it locks a lot of content behind paid online.

>Complaining about the paid online they're literally giving away

>All Stars style
Absolutely fucking based

I was too smart to buy a Wii U but I might be dumb enough to get a Switch. That said the first one was heaps fun to play at my friends house.

i played the first one and i loved it but I'm not very hyped for this one. i ran out of creativity.

Eh, not him but controls and physics are just something you can get used to in games. I'd always argue the most important thing in games is level design unless it's some shit like a roguelike.
Even with games where the physics can be incredibly janky, you can still very easily get used to it and play through it well. SMB1 is a pretty decent example of this. Mario controls pretty fucky in the original, but the game's mechanics and level design caters to how he controls, so it's usually not a problem.

I played the first one, loved it and am beyond hype for the second one.
This might very well be my GOTY, despite games such as DMC5 or Sekiro existing.

The amount of changes and what they've brought in is just so good. This is gonna be literally thousands of hours of fun.

Just to name some things SMM2 is getting over the first one:
>winter, desert, space and jungle level theme
>vertical scrolling levels
>"water blocks" aka cover only a part of your level in water / make ocean or lake levels
>slopes
>sm3dw style, new powerups like cat mario
>co-op, playable luigi (maybe even more)
>seesaw platforms, on/off switches, clear pipes, snake blocks that you can make your own path with
>different level completion goals like collect x coins to win
>tons of new enemies
and so much more

>It's completely insane the kind of stuff people have created in Mario Maker, and this makes me look forward to 2 even more.
Well, technically the first one cannot be topped, since it's already Turing Complete (except for the usual (in)finiteness problem even regular computers are limited by).

My hype for this is making me retroactively cringe at how little I played the first one~

>It probably won't win GotY
wanna bet?

I really hope we get costumes back.
And I hope we can now make it so people are just permanently in that costume for the level, instead of making it the big mario powerup version basically.

I also hope costumes will work in more than just the original mario style.

But all of this sounds like a lot of effort so I'm not sure if they'll do it. Would be really fun to run around later Mario levels as Megaman or an Inkling or Sonic or whatever though.

I never got why that was popular here of all places. There's thousands upon thousands of mario romhacks and it's more useful and fun to learn how to modify roms.
but whatever like what you want

Romhacks are kind of like going to an empty food analogy establishment. It’s more depressing because even a community of strangers is still a community and communities are fun

No night theme no buy.

Attached: night.png (256x224, 3K)

There is a scene with a starry background in the NSMB style which seems like a night theme or night background option for unrelated themes.

Commodity. With Mario Maker it's much easier to jump from one creator to another or one stage to another. You also go through several different styles rather than only a single game.

>we've likely only scraped the surface
Shit I didn't even think of that. Goddamn I can't even imagine how much crazy more shit they've added.

>Dreams early access
>Labo garage VR
>SMM2
it's a good time for creative focused games

I've worked on SMW ROM hacks and honestly as much as I love it, it can be a huge pain in the ass too.

Very surprised how much new shit has been added.

Does Switch have a Miiverse like thing?

After they killed Miiverse Mario Maker became literal textbook souless.

Splatoon 2 has a builtin substitute, so they'll likely do a similar thing with Mario Maker 2.

To think that lunar magic forced nintendo to create a new genre of mario games

Will it be like Littlebigplanet 2 in that all SMM1 levels will be playable?

Even completely ignoring the legal trouble with ROMhacks, the entry barrier is far lower.

>Will it be like Littlebigplanet 2 in that all SMM1 levels will be playable?
Yeah, just make them again.

They could quite easily just use the same server for level storage and add a "made in SMM1" tag for filtering. Worked great for LBP

The problem created is if an SMM1 stage is made impossible through inconsistencies between the two games, say, timing on piranha plants if they make them more source-material accurate in SMM2.
>Solution to that: Make those levels use SMM1 physics/rules.
Problem there is creating inconsistencies between the games, when you really want a game like SMM to reward improving your skills.

Buuut I msotly don't wanna keep the stages so we have a blank slate. I don't want my SMM2 stage to be fighting for attention against SMM1 stages. New players might not get their stages ever seen.

When SMM1 came out, I thought it was pointless because ROM hacking was so much further ahead and had so much more customization (I say as someone who has never made a ROM hack in my life). But after watching people play the game years after the fact, I came to appreciate SMM for the things that it does right, including accessibility and ease of use, all the functions that objects have and the ways that they can interact with each other, sharing and finding levels, and so on. SMM2 just looks like the original game but pumped up to 200% in terms of content and features, and now I'm actually really excited for it to come out. Only thing that kinda sucks is having no touch interface, but I'm sure it will feel better when it's actually in my hands.

Didn't SMM1 have several patches that removed glitches and whatnot from previous versions? But you could still play those levels with the glitches etc still in them. They could do the same in SMM2

most people
Nobody wanted to buy a Wii U

Yes, but in relatively small numbers. Imagine how many stages could be completely broken by potential SMM2 changes.

Agree. Let's just start with a clean slate and hopefully SMM2 has an improved way of handling what levels become popular.

Can we agree to just... never give stars to auto-play levels?

Mario maker 2 will flop
is the same mario maker but 2% of new content (besides slopes and 3d world)

Why, though?
Better would be to auto-detect and tag them, enabling people that don't want them to filter them.

The Koopalings would make for rad bosses. I know some people have grown tired of them but that's mostly New Soup's fault for rehashing them over and over and not doing anything interesting. Mario Maker would fix that issue.

>Stars
Star system is stupid and a basic 1/5 rating system is always preferable.

I want to be able to give all sorts of powerups to the enemies

I really want them include more characters. Enemies, playable characters etc. No that costume thing that was in first one but real characters.

Miyamoto will shit himself if anyone other than Mario and luigi are playable.

I'd prefer being able to script enemy behaviour, but it feels like that would go way beyond the scope of SMM, and it also wouldn't feel very Super Mario.
