God Eater

Was there a reason why this franchise never really took off? The series has progressively gotten better with each new installment. And with God Eater 3 I would say the franchise is now much more than just a Monster Hunter clone.

appeals to children, too much story, shit combat.

Doujinbait, it sells short term but repulses long term.

It has been and will always be a niche title.

Can't say anything about the first 2 games, since I didn't play them, but I pirated GE3 and the combat was fucking horrendous. Movement felt clunky and sluggish as fuck, the animations were wack. Whenever the player-character moved around in the hub area, it looks like he just got out of bed and has one of the ugliest running animations I've ever seen when in the hub.

Weapons felt weak and lacked the sense of satisfying impact the Monster Hunter melee weapons had. I used the Buster Sword because the Greatsword was my main in MH, but it was garbage. The charged attack feels weak and looks like shit.

The gun modes in particular were some of the worst guns I've ever played in a videogame. There was so sense of power or impact in any of the guns whatsoever. It's a complete difference from the Light and Heavy Bowgun in the Monster Hunter games these GE games copy and ape.

The only thing GE has over MH is the 100 times better character creation.

It's almost anime in its pure form.
That being said, story and most characters apart, I do think it's a pretty interesting game.

>Movement felt clunky and sluggish as fuck
This right here. If bamco could find some way to smooth out the combat, I could actually enjoy the games more. The only real thing GE has going for it is it has a decent story for a simple MH clone.

I don’t know man. It do feel clunky when you’re in a hub but once you get into a hunt, it’s responsive.

This is why I have no hope for Code Vein. If the dude who directed these GE games wasn't able to make a good MH clone even after 3 games, then I doubt the same dude (who is also directing CV) will be able to make a good Souls clone on the first try.

Honestly bustersword play more like hammer-type than sword type.
Should've went with longblade.

Your point remain, but for the sake of accuracy GE3 was made by a different team than the usual one who work on God Eater, the original team has been on Code Vein ever since.

Really? I thought that the guy who directed GE3 is also directing CV. I guess I read wrong.

Oh if you meant one guy in particular then I don't know at all, forget what I said then, could be that the guy is working on both

>Was there a reason why this franchise never really took off?
It's a niche within a niche. Monster Hunter cornered too much of whatever market GE could conceivably tap into and on top of that MH gets so many iterations and revisions that no game trying to copy that style of gameplay will ever catch up to it.

The sad thing about it is that it could be improved so much with just little things.
As many anons pointed out already the movement and combat system in particular, just add weight to the attacks, make movements more fluids, allow better transition from one attack to another.
Like I said, the little things.

Aragami designs are top fucking noth though

any new content update? Been sitting on my hard drive

>just add weight to the attacks
Not every game needs weight. Do you want to add weight to arena shooters?
make movements more fluids, allow better transition from one attack to another.
GE3 already smoothed out movement by adding more in between frames to every one of your actions and GE's melee combat already allowed easy transition between melee attacks since it works entirely on a freefrom combo system. Besides that you can animation cancel out of just about every attack or animation lock.

The biggest problem with the game currently is that Marvelous took all the little tweaks Shift made with resurrection and threw them out the window, then doubled down with everything that was wrong with GE2 while gutting custom bullets for good measure.

The upcoming 1.30v is adding a post game story.

leaves fall, the sun rises, GE is jank, and MH has soul

I hope it'll revitalize it a little, assault missions are dead as fug.
There are even false bots in them now

Bamco put bots in there because they likely knew mp will be dead within a week.

I'd have no issues with it if they were actually competent a little.
In story or option missions bots are nearly unkillable monsters but in assault missions they're straight up retarded

>assault missions are dead as fug
They seem alive on PS4.

fujo shit

Too much grind and combat is bad.

That's pretty much it.

>fell for Yea Forums's Toukiden 2 hype even though I had a huge backlog at the time
>Yea Forums stopped talking about it a week later.
>didn't fall for Yea Forums's GE3 hype this time

So glad.

>need Yea Forums's acknowledgement to play a video game

>Too much grind
I get the combat is bad, but how is it grindy?
