because the people that play PC FPS are in their late 30s to early 40s now and their reaction times are 300ms instead of like the 100 they had at 15. Anybody under that age doesn't know what a desktop PC is and plays on a console or a phone where you have to take it slow

The myth with you arenafags that faster automatically means better is ridiculous. These arena shooters aren't popular anymore because they are so simplistic. Just look at that webm. It isn't fun to most for hours on end one shotting everybody while moving around like you are Sonic. Other FPS may be slower but they feel more engaging because there is more to them then simply running around a map and shooting. Arena shooters take more skill perhaps because of how simplistic but hard to master they are but that doesn't instantly mean better or people even caring.

Yeah, quake gets boring pretty fast unless you're trying to git gud. Mods used to be the thing keeping noobs around but I don't think that's ever coming back.
QL compensated by adding a lot of them as game modes but they were always empty except for clan arena. As flawed as the QC matchmaking is I like that it at least lets you play any gamemode without getting on irc.

The way I see it is id pretty much invented the genre and perfected it that fast. There really is nothing left to build upon besides gimmicks like what Quake Champions is. This isn't a knock on arena at all but more a massive praise on just how talented old id used to be. That they perfected a genre of gaming that fast.

When you already have examples of perfection there really is nothing more you could do with it. So of course arena shooters are done. Anything else that tries to be a perfect arena shooter is just going to end up copying Quake or I guess even Unreal. These games have nothing to build upon at all and for today's gamers are too difficult to play and get good at anyways. Pro's will mop them up. For myself I prefer late 00's shooters anyways or just Halo classic.

I'd love an FPS purely designed around having all of the guns give you different types of movement options. Like, obviously rocket jumping would be a thing, but also stuff like single-shot railguns with massive knockback, shotguns with less knockback but multiple shots and a decent fire rate so you can do multiple trajectory changes, machine guns that provide consistent aerial acceleration and maneuverability but need to be fired constantly and have low damage, etc. Movement options are one of my favorite mechanics in FPSs and they should really see more play.

Fortnite seems somewhat fast for a game on console and pc.

This "glitch" is a part of a gameplay and that's why it makes it so unique and amazing.
For instance, Dota has a lot of bugs like that too and many of them became a part of the game and work as intended now.

That hasn't been my experience. The accuracy of the mouse is that it is offset. you move you hand so far and it moves so many degrees. the gyro can never match that since like a stick it is accelerated. with accelerated aiming you lean so much for so long and it keeps going until you stop.

I don't think it is possible for a shooter. For example doing very quick circles or changing your angle instantly is easy with a mouse. You can do tiny adjustments.

You can't really replicate these kind of movements on a gyro.

Hold W
Mouse moves to the right + D + Jump
Mouse moves to the left + A + Jump

In some cases you don't need to hold W, you basically just circle-jump with A/D.

I sometimes have to do this with a mouse when doing long-range accurate sniper shots because crawling a tiny distance to the side is a smaller adjustment of my aim than the smallest distance I can move the mouse with accuracy. But it's probably because of a cheap mouse with bad dpi

I don't like rounds as well. QC however in no way "slow" compared to QL because of characters like Clutch, Anarki, Ranger with a sphere, etc.
Walking in both games is the same except in QC you have faster champions and very aggressive pushers like Clutch with his shield before it was nerfed. Or Anarki who's getting to you with supersonic speed and because of his tiny hitbox he often has an upper hand in fights.

Also speed entirely depends on the map. Maps like ztn3dm1 often offer you to play with +back ratting gameplay. Someone who gets a kill or two can run from you non stop until the end of the match and good fucking luck killing him.

Actually, that distinction is exactly why gyro is so much better than dual stick. It tracks movement directly. Your input is a position, not a velocity. It's the same as a mouse in that regard. It's got three problems. That's not one of them. That's the point and its main benefit. The problems are

>have to re-center the camera constantly
The last two are only problems because games don't support gyro. If there was some way to track absolute cursor position(it's always middle of the screen in first person, trash value), you'd be able to mod in a splatoon button and solve the last two problems. That works great, see: Splatoon, Dusk. It's still a huge step up from stick regardless, but re-centering the camera manually all the time gets really fucking old.

Analog sticks are garbage for fast, precise movement and aim control. They're so garbage people need autoaim even for slower games, they're just bad. Games are designed around those limitations and also the fact that most consolefags seem to prefer 30FPS and potentially play on TVs with high input lag. Q3 released in the CRT age, higher refresh rate and low input lag were standard back then, modern consoles are the complete opposite.

I don't play this sort of game very often, but from what I remember most of them suffer from the highly annoying flaw that you need to occasionally move your right thumb away from the right stick in order to use face buttons, thus potentially giving up camera control during combat unless you're holding the controller in some RSI-inducing sort of grip which avoids this issue. This was always incredibly annoying to me. Mouse/kb controls obviously do not have this issue and you never have to give up camera control.

VR aim doesn't have much to do with gyro aim. Aim in VR is most similar to mouse aim both in the sense that a specific movement of your arm/wrist translates directly to a specific movement in-game (1:1 in this case) and also in the fact that you aim with your arm and wrist directly. It's nothing like gyro.

Well it depends on what you mean. I do believe the controllers use gyros and accelerometers for motion tracking in addition to Constellation/Lighthouse/WMR CV. In terms of how you use it, no, it's nothing like gyro aim. Which is what I said

QL duels are definitely not about being "fast", most pro players walk and listen to the enemy / do not reveal their own position.
You'd only strafe jump to chase someone or to get to the item that you are cycling and have a timing for it.

I was probably one of the top 10 players in Shadowrun and I played on 360.

In QC you can just hold space to continuously jump, but you can time jumps when you land to gain more speed, it's still easy, they give plenty of room for the jumps.
In QC some characters have different rules for bhopping.
In case of Sorlag (in the webm) and Anarky you can turn in the air easily and while you're jumping you just smoothly turn you mouse and hold button for the same direction, no need press W after initial jump. Other characters can't really turn while in the air so you'll just gain speed until you hit the wall, you can probably hold W with them.
All of that doesn't matter, because most shooters with bhopping are dead.

i bought the highest one i could find and it is still pretty much shit, it improved like angle accuracy (that is important when playing a game like skate), my actual aim not so much, it also increased the travel time from one side to another, it is a mixbag
