And it's very likely he used to be a powerful denizen of Heaven/Paradiso, but fell from Grace, etc. Most demons in the Underworld are fallen and/or corrupted angels, the rest are native denizens of the Underworld, full of fighting and infighting vying for control. Hell, if Dante and Vergil legit wanted, they could probably rule the Underworld together.

But it turns out Sin Devil Trigger Dante was still more powerful than Vergil's demon half despite eating the fruit

My guess is that since they all were near a Qliphoth tree or "bush" and when they died that piece of the Qliphoth died means that they were doing something with the tree and that somehow involve Urizen absorbing their powers from the tree because he was connected to the entire Qliphoth

DMC5's story suffered because Itsuno wanted it to be like an Avengers movie. He said in multiple interviews that he was inspired by those movies and wanted DMC5's story to create those same feelings.

And when you play DMC5, it shows. So many of the key story moments are just "hype" moments designed to elicit reaction videos in today's social media generation.

It's the equivalent of the designated "hey folks in the theater, it's time to clap and cheer now!" moments in these Avengers movies, like when Thor returns to Wakanda to fight Thanos.

The moments in 5 just needed a little more meat on their bones. Avengers' problem was trying to cram too much at once knowing the limited runtime. Vidya games don't quite have that same constriction so I don't know why they didn't squeeze a little more out story out before shipping it off, outside of late rewrites making it impossible.

This game doesn't feel like a game that took 5 years to develop. There simply wasn't enough content in DMC5 to justify that long of a development period.

Think about it. The game has like 18 regular enemies finished after 5 years of development. Did they finish like one enemy design every 3 months? It's not like most of these enemies are super complicated either. The Green Empusas can spit an attack and heal enemies. That's it. The Hell Caina have two attacks.

What did they spend those 5 years doing? A game with as little content as DMC5 should have taken only like 2-3 years. After 5 years, the game should have had like 40-50 regular enemies and 20-30 bosses, with no reskins.

Game design is hard as shit. Particularly when you're having to create the tools you use inside of a new engine. While RE Engine does look good, the last games were on MT Frameworks weren't they? Anyways I'm getting on a tangent.

Game design is and will always be hard. And the 2-3 year timeline which was the timeframe of game development when I was in middle school back in 1999 is no longer long enough for modern AAA games.

One o the things I do like to do is read game interviews and those things generally talk about the troubles that happen during development like unintentional bugs breaking literally everything, scheduling costs, studios that have to be hired from outside, outsourcing bug fixing, and a whole multitude of shit.

we knew how strong Mundus was when we fought him in 1, and Dante beat him before the extra strength from DMC4 and 5

Video games have the same limited runtime problem since even if the campaign lasts 10-15 hours most of that still has to be pure gameplay with only like 2 hours of cutscenes. The issue is honestly making V playable, this meant he needed his own missions and focus which pushed back Dante and Vergil (which is what the story revolves around). The official trailers spoiling the entire game didn't really help either.

Those 3 years probably involved a lot of brainstorming and pre-vis that didn't make it into the final game, especially if Capcom put the heel on the budget and certain stipulations like using the RE Engine. Shit like that takes time and accomodation.

He is tho, his arms give him significantly higher strength potential since he augments his own strength with them and can increase their density.

Vergil barely accepts his humanity by the end of DMC5 and Dante has had far more time to grow with better experience against stronger enemies. That's sort of the point of their duality, more of Dante's power comes from within while more of Vergil's power comes from outside sources.

I didn't even follow promos all that closely and I correctly guessed who V would be long before the trailer came out, a few minor details aside. The trailer probably won over more Vergilfags who were still on the fence and didn't care about the story than it drove away plotfags since most of them called it ages ago. Most of the late game "V is Mundus/Arkham's son/third Sparda son" theories sound more like wishful thinking than real speculation at that point.

Towards the mid-end of the fight. Vergil goes Sin, and never reverts back compared to Dante where he continuously reverted back throughout the fight. It was at 50-60% health, Vergil knew he had fucked up.

The fight in 5 was a stalemate, yes. Vergil even technically got the last blow if you want to talk purely game mechanics, but as far as story goes they were equal and Nero broke the fight up. Nico said in the report that Vergil got his new form from within or humanity etc, rather than becoming urizen and the fruit.

See problem here is this dude is just letting his summons run into shit and die. You gotta dodge with griffon and catto and keep them near when he bust out his AOE shit. Keep using griffons charged attacks during lightning phase, same with ice just use cattos dodge constantly(you're literally invincible during these. I kept dodging straight into a wall and i was fine. Trust me on this), and during fire summon nightmare and stay midrange while attacking and dodging with catto and griffon. He should stagger eventually use the opportunity to beat the shit out of him, then repeat. Just be patient and keep your cool and he's not actually all that hard to deal with as V.

Still hits like a truck though so really do mind those dodges as best you can.

Probably but I likewise would have been fine with the game being mostly the same with a few more stages in unique locals as Demons etched out their own demain among the architecture and beating the game let you replay every stage with co-op.

Why are you using game mechanics in what to explain the story, especially when that fight is far easier anyway?

It's not even just the Vergil aspect, anyone with any sense knew Vergil was going to be a big part of the game as soon as we saw Nero's arm be ripped off in the first trailer (even if they didn't guess the V connection), but we saw every boss aside from 3 (and KC coming was obvious), every single breaker and all but one weapon, nearly every environment; imagine how much more impact King Cerberus would have had if no-one had any idea he'd be in there going in, or the Faust hat, or SinDT (which I'm pretty sure was shown in Dante's first trailer wasn't it?), or DSD. It just doesn't make any sense that they designed the story/cutscenes around these big memorable moments meant to elicit surprise and wonder, only to show those exact moments with none of the context beforehand.

All they had to do was Arkham it. Cut some of the early game filler and have Dante come in sooner, by mission 11 Urizen is defeated and Vergil is reunited, rather than eating the fruit it's the Qliphoth's power that healed him. Then Mundus or Malphas or fucking Goliath for all I care eats the fruit and becomes omega giganigger demon god, after which it's a race between Dante, Vergil, and Nero to stop them (Vergil thinks killing them will give him their power, Dante doesn't want him getting it, Nero wants to prove himself because he's still butthurt about being called Dead Weight). Vergil and Dante keep turning on each other and Nero has to keep stopping them, you've got some time for actual interaction and growth between Nero and Vergil, then once the secondary fruit-eater Arkham type gets jackpotted you have your Vergil/Dante/Nero showdown play out almost exactly the same as it already does.

If he saved them, then it's safe to assume they had time to escape the city.

He's correct. There's only so many characters that could serve as a fittingly threatening enemy, and Vergil was #1 for many reasons.

Really, the only other possibilities are Mundus or Sparda. Mundus was already beat, and a second fruit powerup might not even make him strong enough to be a threat. Sparda would be interesting, but he's been built up so much that the execution would have to be both complicated and perfect to actually work.

Of course, there are a few things that work as threats, like what we thought Urizen would be, some almighty demon that presides over everything, or something like Sparda/Mundus' dad, or like the first demon ever or something. But that lacks a lot of emotional investment for the characters, and in a "comeback game" you don't want to go killing off characters to raise the stakes.

Nero couldn't regen because he hadn't activated his devil power. The reason he regenerates his arm is because he finally did activate his demon power and gained regeneration.

Nero was pretty damn motivated. And in this series, they have been able to perform impossible feats when emotionally driven. Dante did it himself before.

He's pulled swords out of the middle of his hand and his chest. If those wounds reform instantly why wouldn't his hand? There are also novels where he gets parts of his body blown off and they regenerate. Gilver basically blasts him to bits with a shotgun and he regenerates it.

Dante was more motivated in mission 10 than Nero was in mission 8 yet still lost. V's entire plan revolved around weakening the Qliphoth because that's where Urizen got his power. The entire early-game is about this. Play the game.

Someone mentioned it before but vergil mentions a fight with nero in the credit scene. If that was supposed to be a fight with dante i wish we would have gotten it.
