We didn't "lose" per se. We lost like 50k soldiers compared to the 3 MILLION died Viet Cong. The thing is, Lyndon B. Johnson ruled out any sort of WW2 or Korean War styled offensive. It was basically an occupation exactly like the Iraq War of today's day and age. Us just walking around like we own the place, and then some savage comes running out of nowhere and kills a couple of soldiers.

If you didn't notice, the Viet Cong didn't roll into Saigon; that was North Vietnamese Army. The Viet Cong effectively stopped being a fighting force after the Tet Offensive in '68.

If you also didn't notice the Fall of Saigon was in 1975, after the US Military had left the country and handed over to the ARVN. Although the last American servicemen to die in South Vietnam where the Marines who defended the US Embassy, they were the defending the Airport and were killed by a mortar while trying to make it to the last bird. You can view the mortar that killed them in the Museum in Hanoi.

Wars are rarely favorable with the populace since the invention of the TV. The only war we fought that had anywhere near 50% popular support was Desert Storm. Not even China has popular support for their wars, and their people are brainwashed gommies.
