I started out with Sacred Stones on an ambassador 3DS I bought off a guy on Craigslist. I really like the gameplay and so I figured I would like Awakening too. Which I did, it was pretty similar. I love the modernized game mechanics and extra story bits from side missions and platonic character interactions. The future kids were kind of shoe-horned in story wise, but it didn't bother me too much. I was dispointed that not all characters could be paired with anyone (or at least more than just Robin). They missed out on potential buffs in battle. I also really wish they would bring back light magic.

I played it as my first FE, I liked it a lot

I played it and not a single thing left an impression on me, not the gameplay, not the story, not the characters.
Convinced people who unironically like it have either never played a SRPG or
have never played JRPG with a good story or memorable characters before, I can't think of a single defining character trait Chrom or Lucina have for example. On second thought I think it did leave an impression on me, I hate Chrom so much, terrible protagonist.

Played it because I wanted to try the niche Nintendo game that kept showing up in Smash Bros. Didn't know marriage was a thing until I started playing and wound up marrying best girl.

It didn't allow Chrom to fuck his sisters, Tharja, Panne nor Nowi, so I didn't play it

He should have been able to fuck Miriel, since she's an original member of the shepherds like his other options. I would have liked autistic nerd Lucina.

The final boss theme legit makes me tear up from composition alone. It really feels like it's all or nothing.

I like it a lot too, apparently some were bothered by the FE theme being played in the middle, which I heavily disagree with, it harmonizes extremely well with what the other voices are doing.

I hate that Id Purpose is always played standalone. Id Return transition into Purpose is what makes the finale so great.

Which character did you get unexpected value out of?
For me it was Vaike, reclassed to a thief because I wanted to try the mechanic and it actually fits with his background and he wrecked shop. Pairing him with Panne is kind of cute.

Both the relationships and combat are as important as each other. If there is ever a Fire Emblem game that isn't grid based trpg or a Fire Emblem that doesn't have dating then I will not buy it at all at this point. Focus needs to be exactly 50/50 in the companies direction for creating both these things for me to be happy.

Unironically this. It's not deep enough tactically to hold its own like XCOM. But it does have a ton of replayability because of relationships. It needs both to be fun

I feel dirty for saying so but I think you've hit the nail on the head. XCOM/X-COM is my go-to for actual depth and challenging gameplay, I'm more likely to revisit a FE game for fluff and a lighter challenge.

I didn't even know it had the relationship mechanic until I started playing. I thought it was just supports like any other game in the series until Chrom nutted inside Sumia after a certain chapter.

I played it because I like the series, and I enjoyed playing it. It's not good for your mental health to be so mad at vidya.

I really like the characters in awakening. They all have nice designs that make them stand out. So many of my favorite fire emblem characters are from this game alone. Vaike, Tharja, Gaius, Owain, Inigo, Severa, Brady, (Most of the child units are actually pretty good) and of course Robin with the biggest cock and sickest coat to ever grace the FE series. Despite intentionally being bland god damn do I love Robin.

Fire Emblem elitists are so far up their own ass I swear to god. Anything not made by Koga is garbage to them. After I played Awakening I found myself very invested in the series. So I went back and played the Koga games and I don't see what all the fuss is about. Yeah they are good games but I don't see how they tower above the rest of the series in quality. Yeah the story is a bit better and the gameplay is... "different". But what about the presentation? These games look like dogshit. The cast is unmemorable save for the main characters and the customization is almost non existent. Fire Emblem elitists can suck my ass.

Does your friend like FE4, 8, or 15? because if he does he is no position to complain.
