For the longest time until Yakuza 0 came out, there were way too many people who said Yakuza 2 was the best in the series.
Hell, even now some delude themselves into thinking it has the best story in the series.
Gameplay wise it gets shown up hard by every Yakuza game that came out after it, both combat-wise and content wise.
Story wise it's nonsensical half the time and cheaply written, and is shown up in this respect by Yakuza 4, 5, 0, and 6. I feel like the only reason some remember Yakuza 2's story so fondly is because the cinematography was a big step-up from Yakuza 1 and it has some of the best character and facial animations on the PS2 (So much so that it doesn't look very out of place when they re-used those same exact animations for the remake).

Usually before Sonic 4 and colors came out everyone was saying even here that Sonic 2 is best sonic, and that every sonic game past it was shit, it was glorified like "the only good sonic". Then suddenly times changed and Sonic 3 is everyone's favorite game, because sprite shitters from sonic forums grew up i guess, as well as adventure fags are now a nuisance everyone has to be exposed to.
Sonic 3's sonic looked so happy, like he had a life ahead of him.
