They'd have to make it a completely different game. They're better off starting completely from scratch than actually trying to salvage any of their awful design choices. There's literally nothing worthwhile in any part of Artifact's design. To make an analogy, it feels like they took a first draft, or a bunch of spaghetti code, and then just kept piling more and more on top of it instead of fixing what they had. And in the end, they didn't have anything at all. Extricating something workable from their tangled nonsense would take more effort for less return than just swallowing their pride, recognizing the shitpile they produced, and starting fresh with a head full of lessons learned.
