Those particular scenes look like a painstaking amount of effort went into the animation, just look at the clip of the redhead and how much expression she shows frame by frame. They were probably all detailed individually.
I doubt it's easy to pull off, even if it's in-game, they're avoiding cheap shortcuts like 3D animation in-betweening algorithms which is what typically makes it look bad and cheap.
I wonder if all the cutscenes will look as good as the trailer or if there'll be a lot of more typically back and forth conversations between people with less animation overall.

You have a tons of dialogue choices, and they all influence your points with the girls. Also some of the SRPG gameplay stuff influences your points with them as well. The dialogue choices are timed too. Haven't played 3/4/5, but even in 2 they get pretty complex and fast in how you have to answer. Also there's a lot of point and click stuff, and you move around a map, and minigames, and other stuff.
It's way more of a game than your standard VN, closer to stuff like AA, but even more of a game than that. Guess it's similar to Danganronpa mostly.
