Youd think high end content would have more allure, something like ultimates with the strict item sync, would remain a chase for the playerbase that raids, but good luck getting a group if you arent geared and prepared the minute it comes out. Savage raids make sense losing their relevance in a few months, though it still hurts if you miss out on that.

I've played this game since it's release and then up until the .1 patch of Stormblood but I just can't bring myself to play anymore. Most content they release feels the same. The devs don't stray from their formula. Sometimes they'd just release new dungeons but with gear drops that were just reskinned from items already in-game, so no excitement on the glamour front either. Raiding got tiresome and felt like a second job at one point.

What's left to do? I really do want to get back into FFXIV, I was pretty much addicted to it for years. But I can't seem to stay logged on for longer than an hour nowadays before I drop the game for weeks again.

I was in the same boat as you, I completely lost interest by the end of Stormblood, I played this game like fucking crazy. I eased off and take breaks more often and play more casually now. The game is much more enjoyable this way to me. Having friends helps keep me interested too.

The main thing that's aged about 1.0 (despite still having better diffuse/normal map rendering than ARR somehow) is the lack of environment shadow casting, which is most obvious in the towns.

I started as an alchemist in 1.0 as it was the only job that started with spectacles and from FFXI I coveted eyewear (I leveled clothcraft purely for the spectacles you could later earn from guild points). I still have most of my starting gear for the class even now with 5.0 around the corner and regularly use it for glamours.

On a side note, the starting scene in 1.0 was always the same, along with a forced combat segment. Even for DoH/L. You couldn't do much but you still had the ability to just throw rocks at the enemies while the npcs did the work.
