I think there are levels to that though. Like Kabal really doesn't make you think about Tusken Raiders, they probably bored ideas from a few places and moulded it into something new. But if you look at Jacqui it is just every other modern sci-fi design, doesn't look like they put their own spin on it. She could slip in as an npc in ME:A or Anthem and you wouldn't blink.

You can gauge these things by the reaction. When everyone can see it is just this other thing or would look more in place within another thing you have an issue.
