It's a mix of really good choices and utter shit. My three mains are in, but i agree, there are some really bad choices no one asked for, like five of them.
The game looks fun and i am glad it's coming to the switch. It's been a while since i played MK and this one has a retro vibe to it.

Not getting unless NRS pulled a Koei Tecmo and still has all the sexy stuff in the final game. I didn't care for it at first, but the preachy way Boon came off in that interview made me drop the game. Hell, I was defending it at first.

Like I said, it's not the fact that they're not there. In fact I was defending Scarlet's redesign a few months ago. It was the fact that they want to say "It's not very mature or realistic". They should just be honest and say "it's not socially acceptable so we won't go in that direction with our game". That's all, and I would have still bought the game. Instead the took the cowardly route.
I still cannot believe uninspired trash like Jacqui is on the base roster meanwhile the only Kombat Kid worth a damn in MKX, Takeda, who had a certified online playerbase to back that up didn't make it to the base roster.
The gameplay lacks a hook to really pull me in still. I like a lot of the changes and they are smart to try and fill the slower/more neutral game hole in the market. i also like that they are willing to try weird things, though some of it isn't original and really not pushing the concept further. Custom variations are certainly a unique idea but I'm still waiting to see anyone do something crazy with it. They are actually pretty restrictive with what you can mix and match. For how long the beta was I don't think we saw the game advance all that much.
I can see it being one of those games that everyone says why aren't people playing it, the game does all this good stuff etc. And the answer will just be the game isn't grabbing them.

What was the point in saying 75% dmg combos were too long and OP, then making shorter combos do the same if not more dmg? Answer: to make the game even more casual. It's brain dead.

the only thing I have my doubts and hope for them to satisfy is that they would make actually fun 3 base variations where each special move a character has overall is spread out over them instead of locking tons of quality moves behind kiddy games youll never actually play as long as its more worth it to learn the competitive matchups
the main reason people are iffy over variations in the first place is because it feels like a character torn to pieces with specialization kits rather than 3 fully fleshed out versions of a character. Giving each of them more unique strings and specials might be slightly harder to balance but simply more deep and fun in the end

Sonic is good at NRS games, I don't think he's a prodigy at fighting games but I think he understands how NRS games works a lot. He's free in other games for this reason.
