Years after release Creative Assembly, while the were making new DLC, updated Total War: Rome 2. This update included adding female generals to the game.
This is where the disinformation campaign began because retards were so hyped up on their hatred for the "ES JAY DUBS!" they needed to manufacture outrage instead of being honest.
Someone made the claim that ALL of their generals were female. They even manufactured a screenshot to "prove" this. They also claimed shit like "Rome is running around with female generals!" to freak out the Rome loving fags, who are second only to the wehraboos in terms of annoying pseudo-history buffs.
As a result, a bunch of retards who had never even played the game got pissy.
Here is how the mechanic actually works. A handful of factions have a 10% chance of giving you the OPTION of a female general. You don't have to choose the female general even when it comes up. This is limited to factions that historically did have female generals. One faction has it at 50%, but that is because in that faction all nobility was required to serve, regardless of gender. Rome has NO female generals.
The only way for the original fag that started this controversy to have gotten his screenshot, where his only options from is entire pool of generals were women, was to mod the game, intentionally kill off all of his males and their heirs over and over in an extremely short amount of time while keeping the women in the pool, or to somehow be so bad he lost all his male generals in one turn and then rolled and impossibly small chance at the game only populating his recruitment pool with women. Someone at the time did the math on the likelihood of that and it was like getting struck by lightning while winning the lottery at the same time. So the simplest explanation is he lied with the intention of creating a fake controversy. And retards here on Yea Forums ate it up.

Civ has been shit for years.

Total War games have never been about historically-accurate immersion. The developers of Rome 2 made this clear before the game even released, that this would not be the direction they were taking; that creative liberties would be taken. Many peoples' favourite entry in the series, Rome 1, had female military units, Egypt using ridiculously anacrhonistic units for the sake of gameplay variety, and fucking Roman ninja gladiator units. Nobody complained about muh immersion then. The difference between then and now is that the social climate is now filled with reactionary retards on both ends of the spectrum getting offended by anything that does not fall in line with their worldview and making a big stink about it.
