While I agree it's excessive, some actors benefit from feeling like they are the character, even if their appearance isn't important. Mark Hamill used to be the only one in the recording studio who was standing and making gestures with his hands while doing the Joker for Batman the animated series. Everyone else was sitting in chairs simply speaking into a microphone. It was his way of injecting personality and life into the character. My point is that In some ways feeling like you actually are the character you are voicing ultimately benefits the product.

Yeah, same. He was a literally-who actor who only did shitty indie shortfilms before, Detroit was his first "serious" role and he put a lot of effort into it. He fucking nailed the role.
He even made autistic charts and shit to keep track of the different character aspects in the different outcomes there are in the game (spoilered for in-game spoilers)
I don't think the other two actors cared remotely as much as he did
