In an in dept interview, Bonnie Ross implied Infinite is sort of a soft reboot. They’re not totally shying away from the series, but I guess Infinit is supposed to let new fans in. So you probably dont have to know the lore to play it

The story became a complete clusterfuck for anyone but the most die-hard lore fags in 4 and 5. For some reason they assume you've read all the Halo comics and books.
