Valve Headset June 15th

Valve's store page for their headset went up for 10 minutes.
>June 15th.

Think they'll release games with it at the same time?

If they're going to release a game with it, it better be a really good one. VR has no games.

Who cares about the release date if there's no price?

because were not poorfags? I'm going to buy knuckles at least as soon as they're available, maybe upgrading headset too if its way better.

Im not a poorfag either, but I can't be excited if they're not going to compete in price with the other headsets.

I'm curious, but I've got too many games on the Oculus store.

you should be able to play oculus games, vive players do. It uses same steamvr system.

>tfw he plays console VR like a plebian.

no price
no games
no care

sony will win. sony always wins.

>Valve releasing games

Attached: ct.png (1280x720, 481K)

its going to cost over $400 and its going to be DOA like every other VR headset

Again, it's gonna be a shit tier headset only made for people with physical deformities like you.

Attached: indextargetaudience.jpg (557x432, 53K)

>implying im dumb enough to pay for internet twice just to play bloodborne and gran turismo

if by doa you mean sell millions then yes, yes it will vrlet

I want VR, but its not worth it and the VRlet is you, because there are still fuck all videogames after all these years

idunno i play more vr games daily than i play non vr. Until ror2 came along.

games such as?

>windows 10
>hundreds of dollars
No thanks. This will be yet another in a long line of Valve's failures, they got lucky with Steam because of HL2 and have spent the past 15 years making everything worse.

Unlike the Rift S which only works for 70% of the population

>why isn't VR like, 20 bucks

Beat Saber

VR, for me, was 120 bucks. And that includes purchasing a 2 year old flagship phone that I was going to buy anyway, so really it was about 20 dollars.

I can understand having to pay 50 dollars or so for the screens, that's about the cost of panels like that. But the hardware? That's about 10 times more simple than the phone I picked up for next to nothing. Keep paying 500+ bucks for something that costs them well under a hundred to manufacture, though, like a good goy.

>Mobile VR

Attached: 1454766415306.gif (181x144, 3.24M)

Look at this retard.

>mobile VR
bruh

It's all you need for porn, buddy. The games are all still a joke, and if I seriously wanted "VR", I could very easily take a couple of the 10 dollar move controllers I have laying around and use this thing as a PC headset.

Do retards seriously think that cardboard is all that came out or something?

>2 years old flagship phone going for $100
I don't think that's a flagship

Not him, but I own:

>Alien Isolation (VR mod)
>Robo Recall
>Dreadhalls
>Raw Data
>Superhot
>Beat Saber
>Moss
>Lone Echo
>Archangel
>The Lab VR
>Arizona Sunshine

>Project Cars
>Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
>Distance
>Paranormal Activity

>Budget Cuts
>Sprint Vector
>Subnautica
>Gorn

>I could very easily take a couple of the 10 dollar move controllers I have laying around and use this thing as a PC headset
Move controllers aren't compatible with Mobile/PC VR mods.

>brainlet doesn't understand the difference between mobile 360 vr and PC head-tracking VR

>360 videos in 3d
>vr
Kys nigger.

It was at the time, and phone specs really don't change much these days. I'm sure you could get something with slightly more power to play gachashit on these days, but it's not really relevant for 99% of users.

What? Yes, they are. Have people not even looked into this stuff? There's plenty of hacky software out there that lets you mount a move ball on top of a headset for 6 DOF, then grab a couple of PS3 eyes to create tracking on par with something like Oculus Rift for around 30 dollars if you bought this shit before PSVR came out when it was being sold off for nothing.

I'm well aware of the "difference", it's just easily matched with incredibly cheap hardware.

>create tracking on par with something like Oculus Rift

>steam shovelware
yawn. call me when something like bloodborn or spider man is out

>release this with HL3
>game so overhyped that even requiring a 400 dollar headset it will still be bought
>game is mediocre or even sucks
>still make tons

oh Gabe you sly fox

Attached: 416x416[1].jpg (416x415, 22K)

Too obvious, man.

Attached: 4ee.gif (300x252, 2.87M)

Do you know how the OR works? IR based camera tracking is pretty sufficient to match that, and any discrepancies are easily masked by the visual matching.

You're not going to get up to Vive level with off-the-shelf stuff and hacks coded in a day by enthusiasts, but you can very easily get 90% of the way there for the same amount of money you'd need for a headtracking setup.

VR cultists seriously don't believe that the hundreds of dollars they wasted somehow bought them magic, right?

>Alien Isolation
>Skyrim VR
>Subnautica
only actual games in there

>90% of the way there

fox and grapes.jpeg

Imagine playing in sub hd resolution on flat screen, without head tracking and proper controlls. Jesus Christ kill yourself.

>>Imagine playing in sub hd resolution
My phone has a 1440p screen, though. Head tracking and proper controls are another 30 dollars, but I don't want to bother because all the games look like absolute garbage right now.

You should have said refresh rate, 90hz is probably a decent improvement. Not really a 400 dollar improvement, though.

Whatever kid
Enjoy your "games"

>My phone has a 1440p screen
With fingerprints and smudges all over

I am. Every day.
you seem to forget that you need billions of games when in reality you only play the ones you like out of trillions of available games.

>My phone has a 1440p screen
Cu it in half and remove some pixels because of the vr mode bars. Boom sub 720p.
>Head tracking and proper controls are another 30 dollars
*loses your head position every 4 seconds*
*controller only works when you swing it vertically*
Enjoy it :^)

how about the controllers

Valve™ index© controllers©? Full announcement may 1.

They're presumably a final version of the Knuckles

knuckles.
Lighthouse style outside in tracking supporting up to 4 lasers.

You mean 4 base stations

Damn that hmd looks sexy

all they do is shoot lasers.

>VRfags

VR crowd is the vegans of video games.

More like the opposite faggot.
.t genetic dead end

So do we know yet if it's using lighthouse tracking or inside-out? I don't think I've seen a definitive statement on that.
It'd be a shame to see them ditch SteamVR tracking, it's an exceptionally clever system.

>minimum requirements
>windows 10

>v-volvo will save VR!
Just like they saved card games.
There is NOTHING to suggest that this thing will cause a significant uptick in PCVR sales other than volvos logo. And the steam controller sold like shit.

The future is in standalones, graphic-fags

>Alien Isolation (VR mod)
A true vr mod, or just vorpX shit?

also, how well works Revive? I really want to play lone echo and the shooter with robots.

>>beaten to the full-game punch

Do you know how retarded you sound?
Valve could have made anything VR with their prior knowledge and resources.

being a poorfag has nothing to do with it, wasting money still makes you an idiot

if a multi-millionaire buys a literal dog turd for millions because he got tricked, you bet your ass I'm gonna laugh and call them an idiot, regardless of whether they can financially take that loss

>Release VR headset with literally zero games
>Wonder why nobody buys it

Its going to be DOA because there will only be shitty tech demo games that nobody gives a shit about.

Ummm, did you miss Skyrim VR sweaty?

Some ones salty they won't be involved in the future tech

>Being brainlet enough to buy Skyrim for the 7th time

What are you gonna upgrade to after the current rift and the vive? The shitty overpriced useless htc pro? The garbage downgrade rift S? Maybe the pimax, and it's insane price and barely working software? Or maybe god forbid the joke that Windows Mixed Reality is
Valve Index is gonna be the only real upgrade from the rift and the vive. Knuckles controllers, lighthouse 2.0 (potentially a newer version than that even), pretty much confirmed super high res display at barely increased minimum requirements alongside the new dual fresnel lens which fuck I don't even know how it works yet but I do know it's set to eliminate god rays, ghosting, and a ton of other things, alongside increased FOV.
The thing could be 800 bucks and I'd buy it, fuck. But most likely, given it's Valve and they're going all in on this, and they've spent a ton of time developing this, I feel they'll sell very close to cost or even at a loss. 600 would be reasonable, ideally 500.

Does it can stimulate all my senses or only sight and hearing?

If all senses then I gonna buy this bad boy and play some anime girl hug simulators.

It's an actual mod that some dude's putting together. It's legit, one of my favorite VR experiences of all time, and that was in its early stages. The guy has apparently added motion controller support since then.

github.com/Nibre/MotherVR/releases/

>wire

>Valve could have made anything VR with their prior knowledge
That's why it's so fukken laughable, you mouthbreather
Valve wanted in on the ground floor of VR, but all they've been able to do with it is add VR support to TF2 and push out Moondust. Meanwhile, amateur hour devs like Overkill have been able to fine tune the Payday 2 VR experience, even though it barely functions as a normal desktop game to begin with. Despite what Valve "could've" done, they've remained content to fiddle their thumbs and do nothing of substance while every single milestone in VR has been accomplished by someone else. Even the most basic effort of adding VR to something like Half-Life 2 in the meantime would have allowed them to rest some sort of laurels on their head, but apparently even that was beyond their capabilities.
It's 2019 and they basically have nothing to show for it. Just another VR headset to throw onto the pile, and one that is all but confirmed to be higher priced (according to interviews with Gabe) than what people will expect for this late in VR's lifecycle. Despite what they "could've" done, Valve's current greatest VR achievement, even with the Index announcement, is that they're tacitly connected to Boneworks, an indie game that directly goes against their design dogma for VR.

>goes against Valve's VR laws
And yet its on the steam master list indicating Valve wants to use its tech.

Remember when they added VR support to TF2 but then removed it right afterwards?

As of now:
>Not launching with any first party titles. No third party titles announced that will launch and support the new controllers. Boneworks won't even be close to release by June.
>Will likely be super expensive as Newell talked about how their "upcoming" headset (as of 2017) is going to focus on being the best at a high price, focusing on making the production cheaper later on in a new version
>Is going to require buying the expensive controllers and at least 2 base stations to use, which on top of the headset you may end up spending more than 1000 dollars by the end of it
>Requires the highest specs of any headset besides pimax and will end up requiring super high specs if you want to use half the supposed resolution of the headset and other benefits. Forget supersampling, you won't be able to use it without a fucking 2080ti if that.
This is gonna be a glorified dev kit sold to consumers for many months, and then maybe, MAYBE, you'll have a handful of games that actually utilize the controllers to justify the price.
The oculus/vive is only worth buying recently, over 2 years since launch because titles finally exist for them and the prices have dropped. Wait for the index until then niggers.

Attached: 64327345.jpg (225x225, 18K)

>Also supports Linux and SteamOS on that same page

If I replace my vive, it'll probably with a rift s or a HP reverb.

They did?
What the fuck

>No third party titles announced that will launch and support the new controllers
I'm pretty sure a bunch of titles have said they'll support knuckles, but the only one I can remember is VrChat.

First off, I obviously know it's on the Steam master list. There's no reason for me to bring up the Valve connection when there's otherwise no overt connection between the two beyond the crowbar and crab-enemies. Second, what you bring up is exactly part of my point. One of the facts surrounding Valve dragging its feet on VR is related to the player locomotion featured in Boneworks. For them to relent and seemingly adopt this studio into their fold shows that their effort weren't worth it, given that they had to renege and accept someone else's design dogma.

...

reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/aek71r/knuckles_support_megalist/
We'll see more official support announcements come May

this shit is going to be another 800$ head set that takes some top tier rig to run with no games. oh boy

>sends to customer support

But supporting and being made for are extremely different. Have you tried playing H3VR with the oculus touch? It "supports" them, but it is the worst fucking control scheme I've ever used as the game was not designed around an analog stick.
Now imagine that but way way way worse. The knuckles are so different in design and featureset, that almost no title that "supports" them will actually utilize what makes them unique. Also no guarantee it'll be optimized to even feel right on the controllers.
Plus, if you've felt one you'd know how fucking uncomfortable they are. The buttons are a mile away from the analog stick, which is pushed all the way to the side. Kills the hand.
Waiting for the V2 that feels like it's actually made for consumers.

Used to support Oculus waaaay back during the Kickstarter. They gave out a hat to people that paid on Kickstarter

Attached: TF2VRH_Engineer.png (686x469, 215K)

The requirements said rx480 though

Anyone else really let down that it's gonna require a fucking power cable? It has to be plugged into your PC and an outlet. Fucking weird.

>tfw I will be the first vr user to be electrocuted by valve headset

The Vive had one too though. It'll probably be the same kind of thing where the HMD connects to a box that had all the cables connecting to power and PC and then that connects to the HMD.

yeah, that's really fucking nice and all but how is VR porn?

Knuckles have a mini trackpad

all i want are the knucles you fuckin niggers

It's overrated tbqh
Fun and hot at first, but eventually that illusion of being close to them breaks, and the fact that they aren't there is glaringly obvious.
Plus actual good VR porn is always paid. Everything else is trash.

And it's complete shit and shouldn't be there.

It's still a trackpad

>shouldn't be there.
based

It doesn't actually bother me. When I'm immersed I don't even notice shit like cables anymore than the clothes I'm wearing. Might as well be bothered by holding controllers instead of wearing gloves. It will all come in time. Right now I want them, personally, to focus on getting more full games working even on a basic level and fixing what few visual issues remain.

Attached: 1544135803571.gif (1280x960, 908K)

Not really.
I'm sure they'll have a wireless option like the Vive but that wasn't a perfect solution (battery life ain't very long and takes a while to charge so you gotta buy a spare)

Attached: D2nCahIX0AAsDfT.jpg (1000x752, 40K)

Have an upvote for that image good sir!

Funny, this is what's going to kill valve in the end, they spent so much time and money on fucking gimmicks they forgot to make real video games. Kind of a shame honestly

Attached: 1536929476878.jpg (732x959, 56K)

>kill valve
They make enough money to keep afloat from CS:GO alone

If they just added some more cameras, this thing would be perfect.

Attached: mvimg_20190305_164823-100791263-large.jpg (1200x675, 108K)

Good for getting non-human perspectives and positions correct for the purposes of your imagination, but it wont kick off hard until the tactile feedback leap in tech.

The controllers still suck

i feel like the 500 I spent on vive was more than well worth it. More so than the 300 I spent on 1080.

>He still hasn't played real, good vr and seen that it's absolutely the future and is fun as shit
I had more fun in vr within a week than I had had with vidya in a year, at least.
And to see the potential new tech Valve's gonna have in the Index as well as the badass controllers, games are gonna be so FUCKING FUN.
Sour grapes bro.

Attached: mad.jpg (336x352, 22K)

>best most refined vr headset around that gives vr people what they've been asking for
>gimmic
maybe if you're a retarded poorfag vrlet trying to talk shit about something they don't own.
Go emulate some mario vrlet

Yeah and how refined is it if literally no games support it

Attached: 1524967998896.png (424x655, 237K)

Porn games are better, especially if you use an onahole, of one of those onahips.
Koikatsu works with VR

Still better than the vive wands.

but i am a happy idiot user

my first headset literally made more happier than any drug in existence, i used it for a thousand hours, i am on my second now

>talking shit
knuckles, drivers and steam vr updates have been out for literally ages mr proffessional goalpost mover user.
Most devs have had their hands on time with the controllers they got to keep for a while.
Even our game supports knuckles despite us not having a set.

Do you know anything about VR? You can play every vr game on any headset besides maybe .01 percent edgecases. Every title you'd see anyone caring about is on both ecosystems. It's less like nintendo vs sega, more like old pc's vs old pc's, almost everything just werks.

>no games
there ARE countless games
you just need to enjoy the only 2 genres that matter, FPS and racing, which i doubt you do because of the animay pic, your taste in vidya must be worthless

>Spending $120 on mobile VR
I got a free Daydream with my old Pixel XL, and even that had questionable value. Mobile VR will always be shit so long as they can't solve the overheating and tracking issues.

You should have spent another $60 and gotten yourself a Windows MR headset.

>Still pushing the VR meme

Attached: 1499462146806.gif (300x293, 2.85M)

Gabe already said he wanted to make hardware and software together designed around each other retard, this WILL have Valve games.

You can make the argument that there's nothing that appeals to you yet, hardware or software wise.
But don't go saying that others are stupid for what's now a low investment, into a now large library of titles to play that you can find more fun in than any triple A or indie title in the last few years.

>The steam Youtube VR app flickers and is ass
What the fuck

VR180 video's are pretty sick though.

>still hasn't named a single game that will properly support the features of the index
Valve can't finish games either, and boneworks isn't ready yet so it's literally not going to launch with anything

Attached: 379a3b2c74666157a157ebce854d10f8d5982dd6e8354066cfbcda8c35974d69.png (605x716, 736K)

I'm glad more people are jumping on VR dev. The more we have, the faster the improvement and the tech is already impressive, I can't wait to see how it gets better.

>vr
lmao

this will be about as successful as artefact

You seem to know what you're talking about. You may have just sold me on this, and it's not even out yet, lol. Can you shove your cock further down my throat to really secure me buying this?

I could buy VR, I have the money in my right now if I felt like it. I just don't like to waste money on gimmicks. why should I spend 800$ on a system with no games? Honestly

What features? We don't know if it has any extra stuff other than the finger tracking in the controllers which we know were sent by the thousands to developers, with several games already supporting it, and even if the HMD does have extra stuff it will still work perfectly fine with older games that don't make use of it since it will use the same SDK and all, there's nothing fundamentally different about it and PC doesn't deal with artificial "generations" with no backwards compatibility.
You're dumb, you have a low score, you suck.

what's with valve and pissing away money?

Will it work with Google Stadia? I'm planning to sell my gaming PC and consoles and just play on Stadia with my pixelbook when it comes out, but it would be nice to have VR too.

There's literally ever been only one headset that costs $800 or more

The latency would make VR horrible, come back when streaming has less than 5ms delay.

fug I bought vive at launch and barely used it

at least I'll get the knuckles controllers. they look way better than gay vive wands

If you're being serious, buy a rift right now off ebay. Get one of the good looking used ones. Oculus stopped selling the original models new, and the upcoming Rift S is a big downgrade you might not be able to even use as no IPD adjustment.
The original rift runs for around 300 now, if you look right you'll find a bundle with the extra (optional, roomscale with 2 sensors is mostly fine ) sensor and the controllers with the headset.
You can obviously pirate all you want since it's a PC headset. In my first week I had downloaded The Climb, VR Chat, Beat Saber (I know that game is bigly popular, but it's genuinely for good reason it is so fucking fun), some sims for flying and racing, echo arena, and a ton of smaller stuff.
Just take a look at some VR games, and think of what your hype to play it is out of 10. Add 2 points. If it's at least a 7 then buying a Rift is absolutely worth it.
And if it ends up not being fun to you? Guess what: You can sell it back at a higher price because the price is just gonna go up on those things once they get a bit more scarce and people realize the Rift S is shit.

It's more like quintillions, user.

Eatshitters are gonna buy it.

God I have a feeling you may be right but once again I'm too big of a pussy to make a move. I might just wait for the Valve Index because I'm not really a great investor.

Google said there is no latency with Stadia

>Valve never ships any of their stuff to my country
>Steam Controllers cost 2.5x more than typical console controllers here because of faggot kike reseller markups
I guess I'll just settle with a WMR

Attached: 1554177495679.png (657x527, 287K)

>Google said
there your problem

>tfw never bought Skyrim
>tfw never played Skyrim
>mfw I end up buying the best Skyrim version only once
Thanks for beta testing an inferior version of the game for me, brainlets.

Nah dude you're gonna regret waiting for the index like that. For one it's gonna be double, maybe triple the cost of a used rift, once you add on controllers and trackers. The rift would be a great buy for now because you can use it until the index is actually affordable and enough titles utilize the knuckles right kek

buy it from amazon

Attached: kek.jpg (200x200, 8K)

>being autistic enough to play skyrim for the 6th time

>not believing Google
Literally the smartest engineers in the world, have proven themselves by delivering groundbreaking industry revolutionizing technology over and over again. There is literally no reason to not believe them this time as well. I'm going all in on Stadia, bros, you can't stop me.

PC VR has beat saber, ps4 vr has re7. Those are both pretty fuckin good titles. everyone has bethesda titles I guess.

SkyrimVR is a lazy barebones port, it's shit unless you mod the fuck out of it.

I'm willing to bet money that In the Valley of Gods is going to be one of the titles released in conjunction with their VR headset, since the studio got bought out by Steam and they went completely quiet.

Attached: valleyofthegods[1].jpg (1920x1080, 726K)

trust my dick without rubber shill

So, basically Skyrim.

It's like people completely forgot about this game, it has been a long time since I last saw someone mentioning it.

You can play RE7 on PC in VR with that one mod, forgot the name. Worked well when I tried it. But you have better options for horror on PC anyway.
Only things I wish we had from PSVR-Everybody's golf VR. Astro Bot. Dreams VR. Tetris Effect.

I shall consider it. Thank you, bud.

KEK

if it does i hope it flops

Literally never heard of this game. Bluepill me on this shit.

tetris effect isn't that great in VR, don't know why everyone wants it on pc. it's just more fucking tetris.
everybody's gold and astro bot are good though. as for dreams I don't get the appeal of it in general, but i'm not a creative type and disliked lbp too.

also it was less that re7 was a good game in general, and more that it was pretty much the VR defining title for a really long time, till beat saber came out.

Probably will be Half Life 3.

I really, really want to play Astro Bot, but there's no way I'm going to buy a PSVR just to play that.

are they able to break laws of physics by introducing "zero latency" streaming service?

not really caring about the headset but I wonder if I'll be able to use the knuckles with my vive

From the makers of Firewatch.
I loved Firewatch, people here seem divided on it.

Next game by the Firewatch devs
Valve hired them a while ago
Why Valve hired a walking simulator studio instead of creative newbies like they used to do? Who knows

I imagine that when the ps5 comes out and they launch whatever inevitable PSVR 2.0 (3.0 at this point technically) the original will sink to nothing, that'll be the time to grab one for all the exclusive shit.
Most people who dislike it are mad about the devs being fags and shitposting all over twitter about how muh gender and muh politics and all that dumb nonsense because they can't separate works from their creators.

rythm games are also fun in vr

no they are not

kys normie

The headsets already run like 150 used. That's with camera, and sometimes even the controllers. If you have a ps4 and cash to buy games it's worth it, but I'd argue the wait is less for the headset to drop in price and more the expensive as fuck games.
If we're lucky we'll see a late life ps4 exploit that lets us just pirate all the vr titles.

Google has servers everywhere, you can easily get sub-5ms latency connections to most of their datacenters. They can do fancy shit like apply machine learning to predict your behavior and movement/input before you even do it, so yes you can literally have things happen in the game before you press buttons if they tune their algorithms right.

Plus, Google has deals with most ISPs and edge/satellite servers they already use to cache content like local youtube videos that they can re-use to speed up communication between Stadia and your PC. It's 2019, it's not 2004 anymore.

>If we're lucky we'll see a late life ps4 exploit that lets us just pirate all the vr titles.

That's what I'm really hoping for. I don't want my living room cluttered with a bunch of VR shit. One at a time is more than enough for me.

Different from when I owned it then. I got it maybe a few months before tetris effect. Ended up selling my ps4 and psvr and then I saw all the good vr titles come out for it which sucked.

I legitimately think Artifact VR will be fun.

so youre really google shill

youre literally shilling from their headquarters

given their track record recently I would advise you to expect the worst😂

I think you're looking at literal brand new titles and expecting discounts. tetris effect has gotten a $20 cut already, astrobot vr has been 60% off or more, beat saber psvr edition has already been on sale and it's only been out a month and change.
Only game I can think of that hasn't gone on deep sale is raw data and that game performs like shit on psvr versus a pc hmd.

wtf the perks are still up😼

Only the emojis. anything bigger is nonfunctional. no fortune/dice either.😂

I'm here sitting in my underwear in my house and pinging google.com like you asked me. I ssh'd into my server on the other side of the world and did the same. Just because you don't like what you see it doesn't mean I'm a shill, retard.

And I only just now noticed I unlocked dino without ever getting to use it

When Valve & HTC announced the HTC Vive, I promised myself that I would wait to buy one until Valve had released an actual full VR game that I could play on it first.

That was four years ago. I still don't own a VR headset.

What the fuck.

When you worked though this scenario in your mind, did it make sense to you? Did you think "ha ha wouldn't it be funny if this happened?" Is it something you consider a possibility?

I thought Vive was valve's VR headset.

Someone explain to me why I should care about this in 3 sentences.

I like competitive games

>Being a vrlet

Uh... Maybe it'll be good this time around. Yeah.

We know at least the forced diversity is real and that the devs are californian lunatics, seems like a probable scenario.

Attached: oculus go.jpg (1273x558, 59K)

The Vive is okish but HTC fucks it up with their price gouging and terrible build quality on the controllers.

Your mistake was betting on valve and not oculus.
Look into echo arena, that game is fun as fuck. I personally have an awful internet speed so I rarely touch online multiplayer stuff, but I played a bit of that and it was fun. One of the few VR esports. There's also space junkies which I haven't played but it looks fun, very competitive arena shooter.

Thanks for responding.

Index is clearly Valve taking the reins away from the customer support nightmare that is HTC (ironic because it's valve doing this).

Anyone who owns a vive knows all the horror stories of trying to get direct support (instead of going through amazon or some other vendor).

Also HTC really dropped the ball with vive 2.0. Index looks to eclipse all their failures and will probably have a comparable or cheaper price than vive + deluxe audio strap (another slap in the wallet just to have flip-down headphones and comfort)

Also it's definitely going to have base stations instead of inside out tracking (confirmed with a store page). Thank dog.

Windows MR shills are going to be nuclear mad when the fat man drops.

Thanks for reading.

>Windows MR shills are going to be nuclear mad when the fat man drops.
WMRheads are chill though, it's the faceberg mobileshit shills that need to fuck off.

it's(probably) the best headset for VR enthusiasts
>best controllers
>best tracking
>rumored 135 FOV, with new dual lense tech (Rift/Vive has 110 )
>possible launch titles from Valve

and all the little things like integrated headphones, IDP slider, high res AMOLED screen. It just a combo of all the best features VR headset can have

Valve actually handling the hardware side of Steam VR is enough to push me towards it, alonside oculus dropping the ball with the rift S.
I personally was hoping the cameras on the front would mean that it would support inside out tracking ALONGSIDE outside tracking. It still might even, honestly, as you are able to buy the headset without a tracker, confirmed by the leak.
I like having more features. If a headsets gonna have big wide angle cameras on the front I want them doing more than just sitting there being pretty and giving me passthrough video.

Hardware IPD adjustment and it's not made by HTC

that's literally all it has to do to be worth buying.

No they're definitely not chill. Listening to some autist ramble off about how he thinks inside-out tracking is superior to basestation/lighthouse tracking for hours only to be proven wrong by forum links of WMR users complaining about hands missing and tracking loss is already tiring enough.

If WMR wants to stay competitive they need to suck it up and accept use of base stations. I'd gladly hype a WMR HMD that had the same level of accuracy.

SEETHING

Attached: 1553842804025.jpg (1600x2814, 1.19M)

wtf bros they told me Stadia would have shit latency, did they lie to me?

Same, I'm more interested in buying knuckles than the headset

Vive was a collab with HTC.
Valve did the Lighthouse base stations and HTC handled the Headset and wands.

The screens in actual VR HMDs are purpose-made, even in the OG Rift and Vive. They're special low-persistence (high refill speed), low-latency, high-refresh (90 hz standard). There's also two of them, in a moving armature so you can set IPD, and they're each generally higher resolution that a single phone screen (certainly, combined). The quality of the optics also matter a ton (Valve Index is apparently defined by it's optics, but we don't know exactly how, yet). Even more than all of that, real VR is all about the positional tracking system (which you've never experienced at all). They also come with tracked controllers (which you've never experienced at all).

There's definitely been a problem with overpricing (especially from HTC), but the cost to manufacture is not that useful of a figure - it's all about the sunk cost of R&D. Even with that said, they cost more than you think to make, eg. Rift was estimated to cost $200 for the HMD alone (without considering cameras or controllers or distribution costs), Vive presumably far more especially in the earliest versions (bringing down the price of its tracking system has been one of Valves main focuses for a while).

There are rumors that valve index might even be compatible with HTC base stations v1 and v2 because supposedly the sensors are set up in a similar fashion which for me is even more of a win since I can keep my existing vive setup and just switch out the HMD.

Basedtubers are gonna be like
>Stadia didn't die...It was MURDERED

>Listening to some autist ramble off about how he thinks inside-out tracking is superior to basestation/lighthouse tracking for hours
When did that ever happen? All I've seen in VR threads are people saying the sets are alright but the controller tracking isn't great, compare that to the oculus shills pretending their mobileshit will have magic fairy dust that won't make the games look and play like complete mobileshit garbage and that no IPD adjustment is somehow a GoodThing.

VR games are the mobile games of pc

Man I hope, I'd love to just use the boxes I already have mounted instead of mounting new ones

Amazon doesn't ship to some cunts

There was that pic of the steamvr hardware monitor that leaked. Had the tracker 2.0 with the knuckles and the index. I don't think they'd require all new trackers, probably won't use 1.0 but 2.0 definitely.

Google also has an elephant graveyard of failed ideas including attempts at AR (google glasses)

Stadia is just as viable as valve's brain-interfacing hardware at this point

>rumors
It literally has the same lighthouse tracking diodes the knuckles have and the base stations were already leaked.
steamdb.info/sub/354231/apps/

Sub-5ms my arse.

Attached: file.png (486x155, 14K)

The difference between supporting 1.0 and 2.0 is so minor that it will probably support 1.0 albeit with decreased tracking quality. I would be genuinely surprised if they forced everyone to upgrade to 2.0 base stations.

>>Rick and Morty

woah

it is the polar opposite

hence facebook moved away from PC and they will fail hard

>literal mobile ports

omg its russian hacker

"It will work this time! Trust me, its valve"

it was there for a good little bit, they removed it a little bit after the Vive released because they didn't want people thinking it was their 'official product' when it was doing everything they were, at the time, foreswearing their partner devs against (in terms of VR best practices, ie. never moving the player view unnaturally). they were SUPER paranoid about motion sickness in the beginning. it wasn't ever complete or well supported and was really just an experiment.

1.0 and 2.0 are compatible in every way, the 2.0 stations just have a bunch of improvements like one less motor, cheaper to produce and have an identification protocol so you can use more than 2 stations for complex spaces.

Facebook is going down for other reasons, they might even let the oculus brand slip from their claws in the process but I wouldn't keep my hopes up

Do you guys want Quest to fail because it's mobile, or because of Facebook?

Or are you all just butthurt graphic-fags

Attached: 1553787539779.jpg (1000x1000, 85K)

Why not both?

I want it to succeed. Means more games in the market. The only thing I want to fail is the Rift S, because it's pure retardation in hardware deisgn, and clearly just oculus wanting to tank their pc sales so they can justify dropping it from their line up.

why are people excited or think this will make any impact on the industry? I won't even go into the merit of whether something like the steam controller is good or not but the fact remains that it barely changed anything at all, every piece of hardware they did had mediocre results at best

Attached: 1549840544245.jpg (423x750, 76K)

both

and it is not that i want it to fail, it will just fail

I'm talking about the mechanics and depth of most of them

>VR enthusiasts

so its going to be 900$ and have no games...

I don't want people to look at standalone VR, get disappointed, and then tell everyone "wow VR is garbage don't invest in it" all because they tried the underpowered platform first. VR in general still isn't out of the bottle and a lot of the momentum so far has been from copycats aping existing designs. If quest releases with the mantra of "this is great, but if you had (non-stand alone model) it would be even better!" I probably wouldn't even care. Maybe kids will like it just like they'll enjoy switch with cardboard VR.

You've probably never even touched the Go, much less the quest.

the ratio is screwed but shovelware is shovelware no matter the platform

Attached: valvefacingbacklash_2472213b.jpg (960x540, 55K)

VR is a luxury market. Price is irrelevant. Gated community, normals stay out.

This is poorfag mentality.

>why are people excited for the best specced headset yet, with the best controllers yet, with obvious signs that valve is going all in on pushing this as they have 3 titles in the works for it, as well as the likely case they'll sell at a loss because they want this to succeed
Gee I dunno user. Why would anyone want that? The steam controller didn't sell much. Nevermind that valve still avidly supports it and it sees updates all the time with a die hard fanbase, clearly valve is gonna just treat this headset the same way.

Lemme check.
They should keep it for trash posting purposes.👌

I haven't, but I have a vive and a lot of reviewers have compared the go to the vive with the vive being the winning platform for performance and quality.

The only real drawback to the vive is the cost of the PC you have to build to support it and the cost of the vive itself.

That's a great way to cause your market to crash and burn

But normies have been super hyped for the quest and all the ones that have tried it hands on were amazed by it. The bar isn't that high for normies and the quest honestly isn't that bad. Good tracking, good library of titles, and they don't look too bad. More than enough for normies dude. Look at the Go sales and look up videos of normies reviewing it on youtube and being amazed. Bar is low.
Now, cardboard, daydream, gear vr, and wmr headsets (the cheap ones) will push them away from vr. The quest and go is perfect for them, no pc, good screens, and easy setup. All they need.

do you count the number of sheets of toilet paper you use to make sure one wasnt wasted? do you fret when a loaf of bread goes moldy? same thing.

I own a vive, and based on everything I've heard from pretty much everyone who has used a quest, is that the games it does have pretty much match their PC equivalents.
So many VR games look like total ass on PC anyway, because they were thrown together by a rag tag indie group that doesn't know how to optimize a game.
Both Superhot and Beatsaber basically look the same as PC anyway, from what I can see.

>

RIP Ferrari , Porsche, Tesla

Devs don't need to make games for cars, and they aren't gonna make games for devices that don't have a sizable or growing market
VR headsets are not social statements of any kind
You really want headsets to become more expensive than even HTCs shit?

Attached: blimeym8.jpg (763x757, 59K)

Yeah that's the reason I feel the quest will do really well. PC vr has to set the bar low to make any sales, as even to power superhot you need specs that most gamers don't have (according to that hilarious steam data that showed a very high number of pc gamers had specs very, very below vr minimum req) so most games are pretty basic, or at least can scale down really well. Porting over to the hardware of the quest will be easy for most titles, and it'll only get easier as oculus pushes out new optimizations.
I feel once it has a price drop and the library fleshes out we'll see it be the first vr set to hit 5mil (unless psvr already hit that, but don't count that as it's been out so much longer.)

mmmm... I think the Quest has a bunch of canned potential, and when it comes to standalone, I hate to say it but Facebook's Oculus division (or rather Facebook Hardware) are more competent than their competitors (Google, Apple). I will think Facebook will burn a majority of that potential due to a couple of things.
>They'll try to aggressively push Facebook services, to the consequence of user experience
>Facebook probably can't meet the standard of holding a storefront compared to someone like Sony. I don't think many will trust their purchases on a Facebook exclusive storefront.
>It's a low end Android device, so people want to sideload crap like a Doom source port. This benefit will be made as difficult as they want to since, again, it's Facebook.
>Likely no modding, so games like Beatsaber loose a good portion of their appeal.
>Planned 2-3 year obsolescence. "Incremental upgrades" like the Rift to Rift S. There's probably less product people at Oculus now.
My cynical view is think a closed platform like Apple, but not being able to successfully pull it off.
Also, 2-2.5 hour battery life, in mint condition. And to make full use of the Quest, games need to be made *for* the Quest. Else you'll get a Switch scenario where a majority of the library is crippled ports, that someone could tell isn't the "real" version just by playing it.

PS: I really hate Facebook, but I don't particularly wish for the Quest to fail. If it does, I'd love to see a decent competitor take its place.

VR should slowly decline from being a luxury market thanks to increased investment and cost savings from continuous R&D just like how the personal computer went from being a $10,000 investment to a several hundred dollars investment. It will take a few more years but eventually VR will be commonplace and people will start using it for a lot more than just video games and porn.

Literally which of those are mobile ports?

This.
Think about where computers are now. You can get a computer that does most all you need for 300 bucks. Within 5 years I figure there will be a standalone VR headset that is around that price and will do all you would want. Won't be as powerful as where PC vr is by then, but it will be more than enough for 80% of normal people, enthusiasts will be happy with where pc vr is by then of course, same as people buying a 2080 ti for 4k ray tracing is now or whatever.

All of them because it's mobile hardware

>So many VR games look like total ass on PC anyway, because they were thrown together by a rag tag indie group that doesn't know how to optimize a game.
I'd be inclined to agree to some level, but then you see first party stuff like Robo Recall on Quest, and immediately bite your tounge. The Quest is underpowered if what it wants to be is lower quality backports from PC. In a way that has a larger gap than Switch to PC.

Attached: RiftvQuest.jpg (1201x1338, 327K)

That was an early build and even epic saw the backlash of it and posted new screenshots that showed it looking way better
Regardless robo recall is unoptimized as shit by default. Most games won't have the issues it has with performance, this has been confirmed by epic themselves.

Hey man, I won't disagree about the graphics, but as long as it's not jaggy ass and plays just as well as PC, it should be fine.

There isn't a lot of made for VR games that have RRs graphical fidelity either.

>That was an early build and even epic saw the backlash of it and posted new screenshots that showed it looking way better
If we're thinking of the same image, then it looks like the same crap. Except the camera is tilted upwards as to not show actual gameplay.
>Regardless robo recall is unoptimized as shit by default.
I recall it being praised as one of the most optimized Rift games.

For the Quest to do well, me thinks games that are on the system need to be designed for the low end from the get-go. Else it might just be the Switch of VR, minus the success.

You have a point, and I'm inclined to agree. If it can at lest not run in 480p and keep a consistent 72hz. My worry is that it'll just be objectively worse ports of existing games. You'll see Facebook's cinematic experiences, 360 videos, and social services, but the games are all watered down.
Some just straight up won't make it for the device, most won't target the device period.

VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already over.

Not enough buzzwords

VR will never take off. It's extremely expensive and it's a pain to even start up.
Who the fuck is going come home tired from work and go "wow I want to put on this dumb trillion dollar plastic bullshit on my head and hands instead of just relaxing with a cold one in my hand while I sit on the couch playing waifu retard quest 5"

That's the thing, it's so optimized for the rift it's gonna take time for them to optimize towards the quest.
Regardless normies wont buy it for robo recall they'll buy it for beat saber.

Faggot you unironically listed you have a VR Rick and Morty video game. None of your opinions matter.

>wasting TP and bread
Yup, you're a retard.

VR Rick and Morty is unironically pretty fun. Feels nothing like the show, thankfully.

VR is a meme gimmick fad that is already over, I could play Skyrim just fine without a $500~800+tax VR headset a decade ago.💢

>A pain to start up
>Literally move any furniture a bit, launch VR game and put HMD
Fatty spotted.

Your mistake was waiting for Valve to release a game.

>it's gonna take time for them to optimize towards the quest.
That's the problem though, if 90% of its library will be low quality back ports. Never mind the fact that even if the Quest does well, the PSVR 2 and Next Gen Xbox's potential VR support will try to eat that market share. And I don't believe they can compete at that point. Because more VR software will be developed for console and PC, and devs won't shoot themselves in the foot, just for the Quest and it's planned 3 year obsolescence.

For the Quest to do well, and make full use of the hardware, games need to be made targeting it from the get go. I have no doubt if people targeted the Quest, some really darn good stuff would be made for it. But I can't trust that.
Better off getting a PSVR + PS4 Slim at $599 than a Quest at $399.

I don't see how not wanting to bother with that makes me fat

From a non-fanboy the main part is
>Newer so likely to have better tech and hardware than most or even all other headsets

As for the Vive, Valve and HTC had a partnership for a time, which produced the Vive, but that fell apart and now Vive is just HTC not Valve. Thus Valve is now making their own HMD to compete.

The absolute best case scenario is that it ends up being like the Wii. A shit console that also happens to have a handful of absolute GOAT games that are arguably some of the best vidya ever created but are just extreme outliers of a library mostly made up of garbage.

And that's best case scenario.

I think this is what people are most excited about

>A shit console that also happens to have a handful of absolute GOAT games that are arguably some of the best vidya ever created but are just extreme outliers of a library mostly made up of garbage.
That's every generation, though.

Next gen xbox will not have VR. Microsoft barely wants to consider hololens for consumer use, wmr is dead for everything but enterprise and a tiny bit of enthusiast retards that think having a good screen makes up for awful tracking.

Microsoft, Xbox, and VR is pure speculation. They confirmed Fallout 4 VR was coming to Xbox One X, but then plans fell apart on bringing VR to Xbox One X. My speculation is that they want to use it as marketing fuel on their next Xbox.

A super janky, average looking, first person shooter with motion controls? Fuck man, I can't wait to drop 500$ to play this! Its red steel 3!

Yeah and ready player one totally flopped at the box office too. Normies get hype over candy crush you mouth breathing idiot, they will nut themselves over even the most mediocre VR experience as long as it's immersive.

Man, some people are really upset VR isn't dead huh?

Playstation has an actual base to go off of with ps5 for VR, if they had backwards compatibility, a new headset, new controllers, and built the processing unit and other cost effective parts into the PS5 there's no fucking way MS would be dumb enough to try to enter the VR market against them.

PC was kicking ass before nintendo showed up, everyone could see how great a computer was, and that was before it started having great games like DOOM and what not.

Yes, and all I find myself thinking is "boy that looks janky" again, a tech demo really should not turn you OFF from the tech right?

VR won't die mostly due to the fact Valve is at a point where unless they fuck up really, really, really bad, they have the resources to burn through money and development for long term gain.

VR at some point will probably be cool and based. But it ain't there yet and Valve is just throwing shit at the wall until it does get there. Until then, I still don't recommend buying it.

I have no doubt VR will be worth it in 20 years. On that note, my mother is almost 60 and is on her computer every day.

Attached: Dodgeball.webm (700x442, 2.93M)

honestly I wouldn't mind if it's one emoji per post

a phenomenon in the early 90's where US (and only US) consumers stopped buying video games and video game consoles, but had nothing to do with home/personal computers

I'm pretty excited for this. I hope a full bundle (headset + base stations + Knuckles) won't be too expensive. A nice upgrade in terms of visual quality would be nice from my Rift, though I wonder if the headset has anything else special/new to it. I wonder what that rectangle on the front of the thing is. I want to say it looks like a screen, but I don't see what purpose a screen on the outside could serve. I'm glad to see it has built-in audio too, that's a great feature as far as quality of life goes.

More like it would be perfect if they added external trackers and removed all cameras, then also added physical IPD adjustment. It's a shame really, those screens sound absolutely amazing.

Doom 3 vr on PC is fucking good too though I guess it doesn't count as a game since its a mod for Doom 3 bfg.

I've heard a lot of good things about astrobot, even heard people say its psvr's best title.

Firewatch was very dull for me, the story didn't really go anywhere interesting but it's not an awful game.

Doom 1-3 are all great in VR, plus games based on the Doom engine like Heretic and Hexen.

Lemme see what I remember🙁

>Zuck: You're gonna get the new Oculus, r-right anons? Y-you're at least considering it, yes???

It's for addons, there's an USB port inside. My guess is that one of the first modules will be wireless.

Not going to happen

WMR needs to ditch inside-out tracking entirely or keep it as an extra feature to use in addition with supporting base stations

There is no way it is going to survive next gen otherwise. Nobody using tethered experiences wants mediocre tracking.

you'll call any VR game shovelware anyway.

& Knuckles
Featuring Knuckles form the Sonic may cry series

>Mark: Now is THE best time to jump into the VR experience. Have you seen our writeup in Bloomberg?

Attached: bloomberg VR.png (925x1028, 621K)

I see, that's a nice idea, though I question the placement a bit. If you add weight to the front of the headset it just sounds like it would become less comfortable, though I guess something so small won't really weigh a significant amount.

I don't know about wireless though, that would require a large battery I imagine and don't current wireless solutions have pretty sizable antennas? It's hard to believe they can fit everything in that small slot while still giving you at least several hours of battery life. I wonder what accessories they have in mind though.

Knuckles-like controllers could end up standard-ish but I expect haptic gloves won't. Not only is there nothing even approaching a widely available commercial product that I know of, but there is currently no support at all in games for something like that. They'd be entirely useless on the entire existing VR library. Knuckles at least will certainly work with current titles, even if their full capabilities will not be used.

all I want is a game that feels like an actual game and not an arcade game, mobile game, or wii game

What about Moss?

No, HL3 is under the DNF effect right now and needs a killer gimmick to shine otherwise critics will tear it a new asshole for taking so long to come out and it will get the same cold reception DNF did.

HL3 can only be a mediocre game now, we already know the plot and everything thanks to leaks.

>Zuck: Delete this fucking shit right fucking now or start talking about Rift S and Quest like the world depended on it.

Attached: angeredrobot.jpg (480x360, 18K)

>WMR needs to ditch inside-out tracking entirely
Never gonna happen, it just needs to improve it's tracking fov.

>Images from fucking 2016

I don't quite get the appeal of inside-out tracking unless it's for edge case scenarios, like you want to travel around with a VR headset and a gaming laptop or some shit. Outside-in is otherwise strictly superior and the setup is only done a single time, it's hardly any significant effort.

Moss was amazing but also really, really, really short.

Organ Quarter is a full on game. Not very impressive graphically but it has the playtime of a typical silent hill/RE game.

Same. I have a vive and the only game I have that I would consider my kind of game is skyrim, and I played it to death already.

>we already know the plot and everything thanks to leaks
The leaks were only the plot that guy wrote before he left.
If HL3 actually is still in development it's likely they rehauled the plot.

Attached: 1469903085657.jpg (410x342, 35K)

So what if they tear it apart for the release window? It's deserved.

People will gobble it up regardless of it being mediocre or not and besides what if people get pissed off at Valve? No one really gives a shit.

Really hoping I can buy it with steambux. I could conceivably sell some items on their market to pick it up.

Attached: Kungfucious Fist of the VR.webm (700x392, 2.92M)

Were stuff like Steam Controller able to be bought with steambux?

Gaben is going full tilt towards VR, there's no way he won't use HL3 to push it further. Plus a lot of VR games are in a review bubble where he can guarantee an overwhelmingly positive rating as long as it doesn't have performance issues. Releasing on pancake gives him no advantages whatsoever.

Gonna need to see some specs and price lads. Right now it's not looking as hot as I was hoping.

Then he's a fucking moron. Think of the people that would purchase HL3 in a heart beat and compare this to the VR market. Would Valve even be able to keep up with the demands?

In an industry where novel ideas are dumped, scraped, and forgotten about at first try, first sign of non-profitability, and first sign of breaking even, there's GOT to be a reason these companies are pushing VR so hard.

We get potential franchises canceled even after the first game makes a profit. Existing franchises people are begging for, that never get resurrected. But this stupid VR shit almost no one buys keeps getting pushed. They're blatantly trying to brute force it in.

just checked and you can buy hardware from steam with credit

You're retarded and ignorant.

The man has a dream and he's willing to take huge risks to follow that dream, even alienating part of his fanbase.

>Novelty
Physical feedback is a necessity, not a novelty

Attached: gaben VR.jpg (1330x530, 145K)

Inside-out tracking is fine if done right, but they barely put 2 tracking cameras in front of every WMR and it sucks
Rift S has 2 in front, 2 on sides and 1 on top. They pretty much nailed it

Because the potential is fairly large. Look at PSVR and Mobile VR. The only reason people don't flock to these headsets for PC is because they're too expensive.

And this makes him a moron.

>wanting inside out tracking
enjoy watching your IK rig spaz out every time you scratch your ass

Inside out tracking is great and critical for some people. There is no reason it should be optional to use

It's a technological arms race, they'll compete in it even if its costing them money. They reckon it's the next big thing in the same way early game consoles and smartphones were.

>Physical feedback is a necessity

Please don't tell you believe this stupid shit.

How do I fix this room for maximum play space?

Attached: cursed room.png (365x526, 14K)

Attached: Point Blank VR.webm (1920x1080, 2.9M)

the general knuckles idea of non-glove wearables will become the mainstay (it is pretty shocking that all these other companies new VR systems recently getting announced aren't at least copying the back-of-hand strap design for their own controllers). someone is going to make a 'pip boy' wrist/forearm-brace form factor which lets you stow the held controller entirely out of the way and possibly have a few different types/shapes of controllers available simultaneously. nerve scanning for finger tracking has potential to be disruptive to the current solutions based on computer-vision/presssure-sensor.

'VR gloves' are a meme in general. wearing gloves sucks in general. whens the last time you wore gloves for any reason but protection?

t. Never used inside out tracking

It doesn't spaz out, you just don't see it. Do you see your hand when you scratch your ass?

Because VR is literally the fucking future of human society, dude. Like this goes beyond video games as a form of entertainment.

Think of another important detail; Sweat.

Look at ManusVR, these are gloves. Look at the padding on the VR headsets such as HTC VR, it becomes filled with sweat and it makes it a disgusting ordeal to play with friends using the same headset.

4K per eye when?

I'm sick of the screen door effect.

New Retro Arcade Neon?

Get something with inside out tracking and just play in the small space you have

I've watched enough WMR users in pavlov to know you're wrong. Even had a fun simon says session with one of them where I proved exactly what I said.

>4K per eye when?

Probably never unless every company invests in this idea.

You'll need tons of CPU power to output 4K images at 90fps twice

Its tracking FoV will never be good unless they strap cameras to the back of your head, which nobody seems to want to do. There are also issues with tracking in some cases where the controller is too close to the headset, like when shooting a bow for instance.

>No inside out tracking options
That's good. I don't want to pay for an extra, tacked-on tracking method which will be inferior and would go unused anyway.

You basically have the entire PC Doom series except 2016, Heretic, Hexen and other shit which can run on gzdoom, Quake 1&2, pretty much the entire Serious Sam series (except 2, which never got a HD remake), Overload, SL0 and a bunch of "AAA" exclusives from Oculus like Lone Echo.

I don’t even think they’re taking a risk. They have all of the data from steamvr to make this play and I’m sure they’re fairly certain there’s profit here. They let htc take all of the risk.

Resolution is not related to CPU, and VR is lighter than flatscreen since there are lots of optimizations that can be done with two similar stereo images.

Yup! Desperately needs netplay.

Attached: Point Blank 2 VR.webm (900x506, 2.79M)

disgusting capitalist mentality

But is it good?
And if it is, why haven't I heard of it?

you dislike capitalism yet you're in a thread about VR headsets?

Are you dense?

>pushing it so hard
I always hear this. I would've understood this early on.
But have you considered, maybe, juuust maybe, the reason companies aren't tanking and shit might be because, possibly, they're making *profit*? Off of *sales*? And are looking to make more by *advertising*?

Gaben clearly used HTC to do his HMD research for him so I have no doubt the index will be at least on par with vive 2.0 and probably better since they are in direct control of both the hardware and the supporting software and have a design philosophy where HW and SW complement each other.

The valve index will succeed for the same reason a lot of chinese companies are taking over. Once you get vertically integrated it's incredibly difficult for others to compete with you.

I own a WMR and I'm telling you you are wrong.

Pimax is """almost""" there. They're rushing to 8K even though 5K is running just fine for now and should be focusing on tuning that up.

Attached: sde 1.jpg (2276x1268, 595K)

I liked it. It has some obvious issues and is very "indie" looking. I recommend you watch a gameplay vid and decide for yourself

>They reckon it's the next big thing in the same way early game consoles and smartphones were.
It could very well be. There are more VR games I wanted to play than PS4 titles.

I hope EmuVR gets lightgun support

Attached: ps1.webm (1152x542, 620K)

That's "only" 4k total.
This notion that you need hugeass resolution to kill SDE is wrong though since the Odyssey+ for example fixed it with only 1440x1600 per eye, it depends on the lenses and the panel's pixel configuration too and not just resolution.

Valve did all the research, they just used HTC for manufacturing.

Pimax failed to disclose performance specs for their HMD and took a beating from consumers over it. Yeah the image looks great but if you're getting frame drops it's not worth it.

Basically they pulled the ol video game industry bullshots on everyone. I would never trust them with my money after seeing that.

I can put CTR in a Playstation just fine in real life

Odyssey+ and probably Index will both have explicit anti-SDE features. Odyssey+ looks like they've done a pretty good job, using a filter applied to the screens. Index has some crazy system-defining optics (where the name and logo comes from) that we don't don't the full details of yet, but Valve has a patent for optical SDE mitigation.

Attached: odyssseyplusSDE.jpg (1920x1080, 724K)

Get rid of the wardrobe. Replace it with a pull out thing you put under your bed, as well as one of those door hanger racks. I got one and I no longer needed a dresser, I only have a few pairs of pants I just keep stacked on a thing, my coats and shirts hung on the door rack, and the underwear and socks and all that in a thing under my bed.
Make your bed horizontal against the window. PC desk where more desk and wardrobe are. Get rid of the extra desk.
I have a small room too and it was hell figuring out how to get every last bit of room, but once you do have it VR feels so much better.

That's why I'm hoping it gets lightgun stuff.

Not for me in its current state. Sure, I'm dying to try it but I'd rather just wait it out. I don't want to be a beta tester and I'll buy in once it finally does become the next big thing, probably not until the middle of the coming decade.

Pimax 5K+ is supposedly very good in terms of SDE, it has "only" 2560x1440 per eye but it uses LCD panels instead of OLED, which means each pixel has all 3 RGB subpixels and as such SDE is much better than on OLED panels of the same resolution.

>shitty baked animations in unity instead of an actual physics spinner that you can stop with your hand

yes but can you get a blowjob from tawna bandicoot while putting CTR in a playstation in real life?

True. SDE on the vive literally only bothers me when I'm watching videos.

Odyssey+ fixed it in a garbage way that made using the headset shit because everythings now washed out and blurry.

But why would you, when you can put it while in VR?

FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS

SDE is a fencesitter argument
in truth it never impedes gameplay while things are in motion because your eyes don't notice it as much

I always know who doesn't have a VR HMD because the first words out of their mouth are "screen door"

Index can't get here soon enough. I need my virtual Imax theater.

Turn up your supersampling nigga, stop playing games at 1.0 SS

It's fun in VR
Even more so now that aim controller support was added and it's getting all the DLC later this year.

The only thing that would make me buy a VR headset is if Forza Horizon 4 had real VR where you can look around the car and stuff while you drive in cockpit view. I'm very into cars and would like to pair it with a steering wheel/pedals combo but playground games sucks I guess so.

Here you go.
Your point was that before the NES, PC gaming was already notable enough to be a selling point and prove its niche to the market. But apparently not notable enough to stop the crash.

One guys argument is that VR is a niche that's getting somewhere. Your argument is that it's destined to fail, because PC gaming proved itself from the get go. Which isn't true. Didn't really take off until Doom-era. And even then, some would argue PC gaming is still a niche.
It has two front facing cameras. I figure might as well let it be more scalable. You want to quickly move it to another room but not set up lighthouses. There's no reason why it shouldn't do this. Unless the cameras aren't as great as they are, or Valve really doesn't want to make use of camera based tracking... While still having stereo cameras on the product.🐸
