There is some legitimacy to the complaints i think since DMC5 is a pretty heck of a lot easier than 4 but they're being divas (even though capcom just straight removed reversals from the demo)

Depends on what you mean by creativity. One level of creativity is just stringing one moves to the next, and see how it works with properly timed jump cancel to connect. To be honest, this is just trial and error and given the lax execution window in DMC5. What you see on the screen is what it is, a player inputing dial a combo sequence with muscle memory and trial and error.

Another layer of creativity that people talk about, is how to manipulate the game engine to get the result that you want. This is where a lot of reversal setups come from. A lot of this back in DMC4 showcase is just "wow when did you buffer the reversal input" which gives room for behind the scenes creativity and excitement for people who are willing to analyze the combo to figure out when exactly the person buffer the input and find the reversal timing.

That room with double behemoth threw me off, missed a combo and then suddenly I'm dead ;_;

I'm not one to actually do much combo autistry (I just struggle to beat DMD even), but I'm curious if the pattern happened a decade ago to 4.
Maybe 5 will have replacement techniques, maybe it won't but people were making crazy style videos in 3 and 4 despite differences in tech and engines so I can see people still make plenty of stuff in 5.

This is the Matt Walker defense. "I'm sure our fans will come up and safe our asses again." Not only reversal and inertia, people are complaining legitimately about the game feel. How trick up and down have recovery period, royal guard have recovery period, how jump cancel have recovery, and how floaty the gravity are. This makes for slower, less immediate combo and gameplay, and doesn't feel as good compared to 4. The analogy is that you're coming off playing DMC, where you can cancel a lot of recovery animation into playing Monster Hunter where there is not a whole room for animation cancels and you're locked into your moves. Obviously the difference between 4 and 5 was not that extreme, but it is still there. Just cancel million stab with royal guard in 4 and compare it to 5. See how slow it was in 5 and how much recovery you get after royal guard. It just doesn't feel as crisp as it was in 4.

It is not about depth, it is also about the fun in the second to second gameplay. 4 and 3's weight, gravity, and cancel windows feels just right. In 5 the team was set up with them knowing that there's a combo autist scene already, but they indadvertently made an inferior game with how floaty the enemies are. Added to this, the annoying refractory recovery period after trick up, jc, and rg cancel and what you have is a very irresponsive game with way lower APM compared to DMC3 or DMC4.

I would be the first one to admit that 4 is a fucking trashfire travesty of a shit game. There's like 4 missions worth playing and 3 1/2 bosses worth fighting. 3 is even worse, there's like 4 missions (mission 1, mission 2, trial of warrior in mission 6 and mission 20 with vergil 3) worth playing and 80% of the regular enemies are just trash gimmick enemies.

People are seething because 5 is so close to being a perfect game. The enemies are great, the bosses are great, the weapons and functions are great. But as second to second gameplay, you can't help but feel like you're jerking off with puffy winter gloves when playing 5, because of the floatyness and how not responsive the game are.

I love 4 and before 5 it was my favorite gameplay wise but 5 kind of makes it superfluous, especially now with BP out.

Anecdotally related, my Event Viewer shows that each of my excessive DMC5 crashes pointed to nvwgf2umx.dll, an Nvidia library, being the fault point.

Because of some tangentially related AUDIO issue I was also having with Division 2, I tried something out of the blue. I disabled any and all HDMI High Definition Audio devices in the Recording/Playback tabs of the Sound menu, and played exclusively with headphones plugged into my sound card.
Since doing so, my seemingly random crashes have been reduced dramatically, as though the Nvidia card is fucking up on the audio side a lot. I still get the occasional crash at points specifically where the Cameo system would try to spawn in another player (and still get seemingly random crashes at certain points on V's stages most of all).

Can someone show me some 5 Nero combos that don't rely on breakers? When I run out I feel like a lame-o just using the same attacks in a cycle as I wait for Charge Shot 3.

Yes jump cancel have recovery in DMC5. IDK how many frame of recovery it was, but in DMC3/4 it was 0, as you can already buffer your next move during the JC so it came out instantaneously while you buffer the next move.

Nah I wouldn't even say that. I had more fun in 5 fighting the well thought out enemies and bosses, and 4 was like hello darkness my old friend coming back to sniffing heroin. Again as I said my relationship with 4 was an abusive relationship as there's barely any missions worth playing. If you want to skip the missions with gyros, fish, fartgases, chimeras, faults, and sanctus you're down to 3 missions. But the second to second gameplay feels better than 5.

Don’t equate RG and Air Trick cancels with JCs. There is a minor cooldown on Air Trick (probably on RG too, I don’t really use it as a cancel tool). And the idea that it “severely reduces the actions per minute” or whatever is disingenuous at best. At worst, it’s you parroting something you saw on a youtube video.

I thought it was for coop so as not to cause conflicts since, despite being very small file size wise, game doesn't download the DLC shit. But that's not the case so i have no fucking clue. BP is ultimately a fun game mode for people who want endless fights so who gives a fuck if Nero heals his ass or something. They rationalized it by saying that they want the score to be fair, not like anyone gives a fuck about leaderboards if those are even present.

Not only inertia and reversals. The recovery animation on royal guard cancel and JC feels jank. Enemies feel floaty in the air. Usually, as enemies tend to be bigger than your player character, enemies will fall faster unless you jump cancel them. In 5 your player character fall faster than enemies. This can be rectified by delaying your jump cancel a bit so you gain more height and correct your positioning, but results in slower APM compared to 4 or 3 because of the delay.
