"mean spirited" is probably too harsh of a word. If you're genuinely upset by a fake game trailer you're a tremendous pussy. But April Fools pranks where the joke is just "let's lie about a game being announced" is just lame. At least shit like Mario x Rabbids can trigger an "Ahahaha what the fuck" reaction. I think the best happy medium would be something like "That new game you're excited for that comes out this month? Capcom/Activision announced they just bought the IP and are delaying it indefinitely with intent to take it in a new direction" or something similar.
