They haven't said which clans are going to be available, but I can't see them not including Malk when they know it's a fan favorite.

I'll be playing Malk first if it's there though, just like I did with VtMB. I really enjoyed that and how it was even more "wtf is going on" than the other clans.

I kind of like trying to play one as a warrior-scholar who goes against the Anarchs in VtMB though.

I suspect it will be cammie + anarch clans. The Cammies lost Gangrel (went indie) and Brujah (basically defacto Anarch) but gained most of Lasombra due to higher ups defecting from Sabbat recently.
I doubt there will be an actual Sabbat faction option, but the clans have been shuffled around so much that it shouldn't matter, just don't expect to play a Tzimisce would be my guess.

That was just a journalist adding his opinion to an article about VtMB2. I don't think a dev actually said that. They did say they have to be sensitive about how they handle mental illness, but even in an interview for VtMB Mitsoda said the same thing so it should be okay.

Don't remember which devs said it exactly but they did say some stuff like their views have matured since the first game and that the first game was a masculine power fantasy, even though plenty of women loved the game. But how much it's affecting game design and if it's just virtue signalling that isn't actually going to affect anything, we have to wait and see.

When they mention technology they mean two things.

1. The Second Inquisition, who are basically just the TSA for vampires with permission to shoot on sight.

2. Thematically dealing with Seattle as a global tech hub and how this has begun gentrifying old Seattle.

The Technocracy from Mage are mages who use a framework based on scientific terminology as a justification for contradicting consensus reality. They are still doing things that defy the general public's idea of what is possible, just like Mages who use traditional mystical frameworks. Technocrat mages still break the rules, they are just less penalised by doing so because the have propagandized the masses in to accepting a vision of reality where Technocratic magic does not represent as a great a departure from what is believable than Traditional magic.

I don't think that is the direction the game will guy, they just mean cell phones and infrared sensors making it harder to operate as a vampire.

When the details started popping up I went and had a look through her twitter and saw her retweeting anita, stuff about "problematic" things, the whole 9 yards and my reaction was basically "well, RIP the comfy VTMB threads". Those threads were probably my favorite things to read through on this site.

The problem isn't that she believes what she believes. Everyone should be free to believe what they want and others should be free the to challenges those views. It's how you build a better society at the end of the day. My concern is her biases getting in the way of more neutral writing. I've finally managed to pick it up from backlog and playing for the first time since last week.
Mind that I've autistically played Deus Ex two times at least.
Picked up Tremere. Currently did stuff in Chinatown and preparing for Giovanni mansion.
I've mostly went for persuasion / lock / hacking, so I can max out them to 10 with Auspex and go nearly everywhere.
As an autistic person I mostly spent time good portion of time to snoop around with Auspex for any loot / artifacts/
What bothers me is that, unlikely to Deus Ex, there is less things to pick around.

Plus patch does some good things and adds a couple nice levels, so it's worth playing through at least once or twice. I think the vanilla game is better overall though because it adds a lot of questionable/low quality content too.

Clan Quest Mod is pretty good though, it gives you the option of leaving the vanilla game alone but adding a new hub, NPCs, and quests which are mostly done pretty well. It's definitely worth checking out if you've already played vanilla.

A lot of people already know, there's even a Futurama reference in the game. A lot of decent people worked on it. I was surprised to learn that Jay Gordon from Orgy did voices in the game too.

They've actually talked about "being careful with malks", because they want to be respectful to people with mental illnesses. Malk is also very expensive from an effort standpoint with custom dialogue.

They might not be player selectable at all at the start.

I've played Malk more than the others and it's my favorite, but I find that after a few Malk playthroughs the other clans start to become more interesting if you can get into the roleplaying aspect more.

When Troika was around they didn't really have a classical hierarchy of game dev, everyone had input and when you have that you have different opinions/views clashing which is great for an RPG

I hope Mitsoda picked Cara, because of that. She's supposedly writing the thinblood/human aspect of the story, so from that viewpoint her being on project might work--but only if the SJW stuff gets filtered by Mitsoda's (hopefully still) critical eye.

Honestly I am not too worried. Well I am worried but, more about the game being made by a bunch of whos with no proven track record. I fully expected there to be some vague college campus fight the powers stuff with the Anarchs and some out and proud gay vamp, but so long as the devs respect the RPG element and let me play the way I want and make the character I want to make then I don't really care so long as their politics are reflected in a few characters or group and not the overall broad tone of the world.

I don't want to post the images people have been baiting others with because I don't want the thread to go to shit but that Rudi's Army dialog scene with them sitting around the table... what the fuck man. It felt like I was reading some tumblr teen's fan fiction, not something written by a mature experienced writer.
I just want vampires with their secret societies worrying about vampire things and their intricate politics and scheming and other supernatural shit not some hugbox shit. It feels so fucking disconnected and out of left field. Hope that kind of stuff is kept to a minimum and not a constant in the game.

And this user is also making a good point: the only notable game the devs made is Blacklight Retribution. I played BR and it was pretty fun but it's like apples and oranges.
But on the other hand a lot of what can make or break the game is the writing and overall visual/audio design, tone and atmosphere. On a technical level the gameplay notes they want to hit don't sound too hard to pull off, I don't expect the game to be groundbreaking in terms of movement and combat, it's the other stuff that can and has to make it special.

What makes Rudi so terrible is they didn't give him any flaws. Vampires are monsters and even the trans homo genderfuck vamps that would sometimes turn up in 90's books were still obviously horribly damned and inhuman as that is their condition. Vampires have always been kind of pervy and alternative when it comes to sex, it is hard not to be when the core fantasy is about depicting a crossroads between hedonic aristocratic decadence and street level desperation. They are both ruling cast clans, so to speak, but Ventrue has historically focused more on worldly power (states, politicians, corporations) while the Lasombra focused on infiltrating the Church during the middle ages. You would have Catholic priests and bishops who were actually vampires and they would manipulate and feed off their congregations. As the church declined in importance for humans the Lasombra (with funds from the Vatican bank) got involved more with traditional finance and corporate intrigue while still remaining the spiritual leaders of the Sabbat's perverted religion. Their powers reflect this too, as their core discipline allows them to access the abyss, the realm of pure outer-darkness. And they also have a much more openly encouraged dog eat dog attitude than the Ventrue. A Ventrue will stab you in the back but use a technicality or loophole to do it. Lasombra are more like the Necromunga from those Riddick movies "You keep what you kill".

Those aren't pre-gen characters though. They are metaplot set pieces obviously waiting to be detailed in further sourcebooks.

Odds on being able to play as one of the offshoot bloodlines, like Nagaraja? Would be pretty interesting, and the first VtMB allowed for Nosferatu, and they required a different play style, so their is precedent for bloodlines having different playstyle mechanics.

The Seattle setting is guaranteed to make the politics 100% more cancerous. The irony is that becoming a Vampire really does wipes all all differences between race, gender, and any other kine characteristics.

They also seem to have gotten more ambitious than is reasonable to expect from a studio of their size. Making each clan playable and making unique powers for each clan, and then making DLC for werewolf and mages frankly seems absurd. Content will be cut. Probably a lot of content. But if the game is halfway playable then modders can probably fix most of the issues. Hopefully, by 2022 we can play a halfway decent game.

Combat in a nutshell

Anyone with Celerity can make combat much easier. Brujah with Potence+Celerity tear shit up in melee the whole game on combat easy mode. Toreador get a little better with guns late game thanks to Presence+Celerity letting them light up a whole room with late game guns. Tremere just magic their way through and you wont notice one less stamina.Nosferatu get Potence and combined with Obfuscate can do a lot of stealth killing as well as bashing things to death but its not as dominating as the others.Gangrel can Wolverine things but much like Nosferatu its only so good and Animalism only adds so much.Malks can be played more like Tremere as you aint that combat loaded. Ventrue get Fortitude so.....yeah you can take damage.....Presence is there too

Just play as a Malk. The two big reasons people say not to play as a Malk are:
It's hard to interpret what your dialogue options actually mean
Malkavian dialogue gives spoilers

The misinterpretation of prompts only happens occasionally, it's nothing to worry about.
The spoilers are extremely oblique unless you already know the plot, and are given by other characters anyway.

I only played a couple of the "normal" clans back in the day. Is there any clans that is very different RPG wise? Not as in combat, but like new locations, extra special quests and lore and such. yeah I think you're absolutely right, user. but I also think it's not only about the taste writers have, if you look at early video game industry--or more aptly genre fiction since we're talking about literature(I don't read highbrow stuff, sorry), you'll find a lot of notable creators didn't even have a background in writing. There's a lot of people who were philosophers, scientists, historians, linguists, etc.

Not sure what the solution is, maybe it all rests on indie developers.
