I like repurposing off the shelf computers into custom machines.

Having non-ATX standard shit like front panel headers is a killer.

it's a gaming laptop
I'll probably get an upgrade pretty soon
I wish it had an internal optical drive but that would probably make it way to thick to be portable

>it's a gaming laptop
[look at the top of his head laugh]

upgrading my ram. what next?

Unironically waiting for an "april fool's event" to preorder a case.

Will be getting this 7L miniITX for my next build. Will be waiting until Ryzen 3000 series cpus on 7nm to release before committing to a CPU + Mobo. Not in a hurry. My current mini-itx build is in a 12L Silverstone FT-Z01 with 4690k and GTX 970 and still plays most everything very well, but I'd like something even more portable with better ventilation.

>buy cheap regular-ass PC parts
>buy gaming case
>put cheap parts into gayman PC case
>get mad respect from casual console bros when they come over "OMG gayman PC"
>can still respect myself when I look in the mirror
I'm currently playing CK2, Patrician III and I'm doing an SMG playthru in Underrail.

I got a rig for $500CAD used, and it has a Xeon e3-1230 v2, a 970, 16gb of ddr3 and liquid cooling on the CPU. It holds up extremely well. The CPU is good for what I need and I'll probably just get a 1070 for Cyberpunk when that comes out. I only plan on doing 1080p 60fps for the near future so it's really good for what I need it for

If you're just doing gaming, then you'll probably want to get like an RX 580 or something

>zaber.com.pl/sentry/
Come on man, that looks boring. Also shit airflow since it's so small. Just get a microATX like everyone.

all those USB ports and flash memory card ports. Wonder what the original market for this one was intended for? workstation that needs a shit ton of removable media or something?

hard drive because its a seagate and its not going to last. Could always do a SSD though and use the seagate for less important shit.

that thing is going to fucking roast. I wouldn't use it for anything more powerful than a HTPC.

>all those USB ports and flash memory card ports
Pic related is a standalone unit that was added to it, replacing a DVD drive. The computer is from like 2006, it had no USB 3 originally.

I'm building a new PC but I'd never post the specs because I'm well versed in the "call everyone's build shit" meme. It goes well with the "Just wait (x months) for this more expensive part to come out."

Do PC parts go on sale April 1 or something?

Fucking great, someone posted an image at the same fucking time as me. I meant to post this.

>Brag about your expensive shit?
Nah, I keep it to myself but when somebody comes by I'll tell them a little about it if they're interested.
>Plans for an upgrade?
I need to upgrade my Power supply to better accommodate my 1080ti as well as get a new HDD because my previous one died and I'm stuck on my SSD memory.
>Playan
Since My Library is limited due to the above I'm focusing on select backlog games, but I just caved and bought ROR2, well worth it.

snagged a 2600 for $110, 16gb 3000mhz lpx for $90, and an x370gtn for $50. Replaced fan shroud on the pulse 56 with a couple 120mm fans, 1.6ghz core 1ghz mem without going over 70c under load.

Upgraded my ram, what's next?

works fine for me

When the fuck does the event start? Its 2pm on april 1 here...

Anything to improve?
>Playan?
DOA VV and Apex atm

Ugly frankenstein clusterfuck but it works for gaymen.

So what's the deal with all these GPUs and why are there different prices for the same model? Why do they go from "Expensive as shit" to "Fucking expensive as goddamn shit"?
The cheapest one looks really good, I would unironically waste my money on that if I was a richfag.

Why do you need two ssds

Damn I need a card reader for my PC.
I dunno, maybe they have different memory manufacturers?
For example first gen EVGA GTX 1070 SC used Samsung memory, but later gens used inferior micron memory.

It's fine. No, it's not meant to be able host and overclock a CPU to >5.0GHz and more, and that's not what I currently do anyways. I keep clocks 0% ~ 10% higher (depending on where I can hit a nice stability point) and try to undervolt the core voltage for CPU + GPU as much as possible to keep temperatures as low as possible. Worst case scenario is that the parts perform at "stock-level", but with lower temperatures.

Picture shows my GTX 970 in my Fractal FTZ-01 (which is almost as small, and has much less perforation for ventilation, mind you) and idle it runs at 31C and under game load runs at 48C. Partially aided by liquid metal TIM and an aftermarket GPU heatsink, but you can see I'm only using a +35 MHz and +120 MHz memory overclock, which is barely above stock settings,

Temps can be controlled in small MiniITX cases, but retards like you won't know how to find a good balance point between noise/thermals/performance.

so noone fucking knows when it starts then?

Kindly never (you) me again.

Current build feels like it's getting long in the tooth. I think I'm going to start from scratch soon minus maybe the psu and drives.
Right now I can't decide between hopping on a i9-9700k or 9900k, or waiting for Zen 2, and if I should get a RTX 2070 or not. What should I go for if I'm shooting for 1440p/120hz?
And what's the best non-custom cpu cooler on the market right now?

Attached: speccy.jpg (661x468, 47K)

This coming black friday I plan to build a new pc just because I bought a new graphics card and everything else on it is old as shit. I guess I just want everything to be on par with the 1060. I dunno, I'm able to play everything I want well enough so it's not really like I have a real reason to spend, just bored and pc building simulator made me think about it for real. Willing to spend a grand. How important is RAM frequency?

Attached: fjdksl.png (557x459, 26K)

Would you rather me link you to wannabe-tech-reviewer youtubers instead like "randomfrankp" "Craft Computing" or "Optimum Tech" instead? There's literally dozens of Zaber Sentry 2.0 reviews which the dude sent out to tech reviewers ahead of their preorder window and they all say the same shit.

youtube.com/results?search_query=zaber sentry

Probably the best minimum size case on the market, smaller in volume than even an ncase m1, limited by cpu/gpu cooler sizing, so be mindful of your parts consideration because maximum-overclocking isn't the goal or intention behind a case of this design; it's intended to be optimized for absolutely minimal size while still using standardized internal PC components.

I have an aluminum Fractal FTZ-01 that has a black anodized aluminum exterior, but when taking it over to a friend's house for a lan party, it's been scratched, despite hauling my stuff and peripherals in a carry-on luggage case. Not interested in an aluminum pc-case for a show-piece. I want a powder-coated industrial steel case that does what it needs to do, and this is the only thing on the market at this volume. Almost everyone else doing PC cases at this volume is either making it from 3d-printed plastic (ie: structurally weak) or anodized aluminum (scratches easily).

>And what's the best non-custom cpu cooler on the market right now?
Can't seem to find anything wrong with NZXT AIOs. They have a 6 year warranty as well, I think. If the pump decides to commit seppuku just ask for another one.

Attached: 41K-blRJszL._AC_SY400_.jpg (500x286, 22K)

there are 3, why the fuck not?

I was looking at a noctua dh15 since dual heatsinks and 140mm fans seems like a neat meme.
How do all-in-one water coolers compare to plain air coolers these days? I never really fucked with water cooling before since back when I first made this thing, water cooling wasn't really worth it unless you did a fully custom setup running the whole computer.

I don't think a 3GB 1060 is worth doing a new build for.
And for gaming not very, speccy is only showing you half btw because it is retarded.

can this build play re remake 2,DMC5 AND MHW on high setting? im just waiting for steam sale to buy the game

Attached: amd.png (547x396, 19K)

I still think liquid cooling is a meme, unless you just really need to OC a shitty CPU, I'd rather buy a decent cpu and fan.
And I'm way to scared to buy anything pahjeet prebuilt with water cooling.

>How do all-in-one water coolers compare to plain air coolers these days?
Simple
>Air cooler
*45 bucks at most unless really, really big heatsink
*Looks meh
*Gets the job done
>AIO
*150 bucks at the cheapest 120mm x2 radiator
*Meme lighting and muh minimalism, looks cool tho
*Gets the job done

No real difference other than price. If you're a rich autist and care how your PC looks inside, get the AIO. If you don't give a shit just get any air cooler as long as it has a bigger heatsink than the stock one.

Maybe if you put some thermal paste on that CPU and turn on the fan.
