Please please please please address the similarities between Pauline and Captain Syrup. Are they sisters? Are they cousins? Are the the same person??

Attached: 1512272942747.jpg (520x400, 237K)

And you just noticed this?

Galaxy 2 was easily the weakest final boss of the 3D Marios (and that includes Sunshine's). At least use Galaxy 1's version instead.

Attached: 0fee8426bfac7e09425b21302a08c7ea.jpg (1795x934, 133K)

I'm not sure if I would call XC2's music a downgrade, a lot of the tracks are better

No, I have been noticing it for a while

sick cherrypicking

They're similar for the same reasons Peach and Daisy are similar.

music in games (and movies for that matter) have been getting worse, more generic, less tuney and more ambient in the last 10 years.

The only games with good music left are fromsoft games, dmc, various indie games and most fighting games.

mario vs. rabbits has a great soundtrack btw. Never even touched the game though

what? kass' theme is fucking awesome you shit taste faggot

literally the opposite happened for the games in the OP, though.

Well I prefer Pauline and Syrup so much more man they got those big tits

soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap soap

I think Galaxy's ost is better than Odyssey's, but to say its a severe decline of some sort is pretty outlandish. Also to say it's getting worse, there'd need to be a recognizable pattern, and they say 3 times is a pattern. So if three games after Galaxy 2 had worse music I'd be inclined to agree that it is declining, but 3d World had an incredible big band aesthetic for much of it's music, and Odyssey, while having a score that doesn't stick with me like Galaxy 1 and 2's, still had excellent music that is better than 95% of what's in most games.

I think Breath of the Wild has a stronger OST than Skyward Sword. Skyward Sword didn't benefit that much from going full orchestral like Mario did, ironically enough. While the music is certainly good, I think they relied on the new orchestra too much, and focused less on excellent composition. Breath of the Wild's score is one of the best I've probably ever heard, and knows when to step back and give the diagetic sound room to do it's magic. But the Rito Village theme is incredible, as is the horse riding music. It's only weakness is that there isn't a system determining when the player has heard too much diagetic vs nondiagetic sound. So you can often hear good tracks too much or too little.

>fromsoft games
Only Dark Souls has a good consistent OST. The rest of the music in their games is generic as fuck.

The uniformity standards of the sex labor market?

Game soundtracks aren't getting worse, you're just nostalgic for what you played when you're younger, and that influences your musical taste. There's been studies on this. The music you listen to when you're a teenager will typically be the music you'll be most attuned to throughout your life.

>Yea Forums defending Galaxy's MIDI bullshit.

Attached: 1370917775925.jpg (500x341, 58K)

>MIDI bullshit

Galaxy was the first Mario game with a full orchestra. Of course, granted, it was like more 40% orchestral with the non-Koji Kondo stuff being synth, but it was a step towards live instruments.

really? i think, while i like the DaS1 soundtrack, both bloodborne and DeS have more interesting music. DaS1 started the generic chanting meme and DS2 and 3 rode it into the sunset

mahito yokota didn't work on odyssey or botw AT ALL
he did practically all of galaxy 1 and 2's music, the koloktos boss music and others in skyward sword
wonder what he's been doing, he contributed a few songs for sm 3d world
youtube.com/watch?v=ewHK4wu5Kgs
youtube.com/watch?v=UR2pkhRW4CQ

they also really need to let koji kondo actually compose things again instead of supervising
his talent is being wasted

he only composed 2 songs for mario galaxy 2 and they were outstanding
youtube.com/watch?v=BeabsBT8RrE
youtube.com/watch?v=7YmswPJei0g

he contributed 0 songs for botw, they let an animal crossing composer do that one which was hit and miss

how do you explain liking music of recent releases then?

personally, i measure this by you being able to recall it weeks or months later. the only music i can do that with from OP's list is Kass' theme.

oh actually I'm wrong
I forgot koji kondo did the new donk city track in odyssey which is easily the best in the game
youtube.com/watch?v=4vWAZfLuNoE

are you the kind of faggot who needs "realistic graphics" to enjoy a game too?

100% wrong

wrong
kondo only composed rosalina's observatory and good egg galaxy for galaxy 1
the rest was mahito yokota and it was mahito arguing with miyamoto to finally use an orchestra
using an orchestra doesn't make sense for certain tracks like the warp pipe theme

Odyssey is a mediocre soundtrack with one amazing vocal song. Prove me otherwise because you literally can't.

Attached: 2141423241.png (170x200, 47K)

All those are perfectly fine though. Xenoblade 2 has one of the best video game OSTs I've ever heard outside of the first Xenoblade and the Nier games.

I can name literally 0 tracks from any of those games except for DMC because it has meme status. Anyways, play more games nigga.

You can still like new music, and grow attached to things, but nostalgia and puberty in particular are powerful cocktails that influence your taste.

Some music grows on you, and sometimes you grow with music. 10 years from now people are gonna be weepy-eyed over how 'atmospheric' BotW's score was.

I'm not wrong dude. There's been research on that shit about your brain getting attracted to music you listened to when you're young.

out of all the music in skyward sword, you chose that instead of this
youtube.com/watch?v=5xD1FAOJI84

trying to change someone's already set mind is a fool's errand.

everyone has an opinion, you are not special

Splatoon 2's music is better than the first game, fight me

is this the contrarian thread?
ummmm reddit is good

i completely forgot about Automata. The OST is probably one of 3 reasons I even played through it all the way

Xenoblade 2's ost in general is quite different from the other two games, but I still loved it. One of my favorite OSTs from 2017.

well yeah, proper nostalgia is obviously timebound.

you can still develop nostalgia for things later on. besides, nostalgia is not needed for quality. Also never forget that studies come down to the run of the mill average person. Results of those are not generally applicable the same way on everyone

neat song, never heard that before, thanks for posting.

also 100% correct with this
>the research never asked me

>not my fault plebs have no ear for melody or harmonics

I never said you can't be nostalgic for things later down the line. Chances are though a lot of your personal interests in music have their roots from when you were young.

I mean I'm probably an 'outlier' myself since I actually fucking compose music, but still, a lot of what I think of when I write stuff is based around my influences, which mostly aren't hat recent.

You seem like you've got a bit of an agenda. There's a lot of not so great music today, I'll agree, and mainstream pop culture stuff isn't so great, but when hasn't that been true? There was a time in certain places when fucking POLKA was considered top tier banger music, to the point of where 'classical' composer of then were making fun of it.

>Sonic Mania had a great soundtrack.
Mania doesn't represent the ABSOLUTE STATE of modern Sonic

Why did Smash's music instantaneously decline from Brawl to Smash 4/Ultimate? I can't say the reason why but these new remixes/compositions feel much less satisfying than Brawl's, though there is a fair share of great ones, especially in Ultimate.

Some of us have a past and a cultural identity. It's neither bad nor good. It just is . And I wish stupid people like you would realise that

Aion's theme (I think it's called Beyond Hope and Despair) was sort of odd given that it's mostly just incorporating stuff from the main theme and such and nothing of Malos' theme (like, say, some altered version of Amalthus' theme or an orchestral version of Incoming since his first boss fight is the first time you hear it)

Eh. Sounds a lot more generic and disorganized. Splat1 had a set theme and it accomplished it very very well.

CRISIS APPROACHING

I honestly fucking hate most of Brawl's soundtrack. Especially everything overusing the damn main theme.

It's "IS GETTING," you illiterate tard.

Fuck you you fucking inebriate cheese grater.
You can't possibly tell me you prefer Smash 4's MIDIs to the soulful compositions of Brawl.
Why is it different anyway? Smash 4 and Ultimate reuse their respective main themes even more. Why is Brawl's bad?

I agree with Odyssey, that game's soundtrack is weak as fuck compared to the Galaxy games and 3D World past a few standouts like Cascade Kingdom and the Moon Caves but XC2's soundtrack is straight up better than the first and BoTW has a lot of standout themes, they just don't get used nearly enough and it's a damn shame because there's some genuinely awesome music that's only used for a few minutes at most in a game that can go on for 100+ hours.

Because Brawl started the trend. Are you dense?

nobody told me to like it
why did I choose that over this?
youtube.com/watch?v=QpxN2VXPMLc

one has perfect harmony and melody
that is what art is supposed to be, the appreciation of beauty

not the repetitive, droning, uninspired, synthetic, ambient noise churned out now

>just a few decades ago when only the best musicians had their music broadcast

Hahahaha, fucking seriously? Composers and musicians have been fighting for and vying for air-time and mainstream success since mainstream success was even a thing. Who do you define as "the best" musicians? Pretty sure a lot of mid-20th century classical composers would've dug a tad more radio-play over those studio built pop bands. Same with certain jazz cats. Hell, I know musicians RIGHT NOW who are just phenomenal on just a sheer technical level, but they unfortunately haven't had the best luck networking-wise.

You're simply fueling a lot of my nostalgia argument, dude.

steam gardens is a close 2nd for world tracks in the game

Yes, but that's besides the point.
Does that mean you prefer Smash 4/Ultimate's soundtracks over Brawl's? Or are you a Melee guy?

>stutterposting
>CURRENT YEAR argument
>use as many buzzwords as possible
>filthy simplistic US centric mindset

is this some sort of modern art ironic shitposting or are you actually serious?

To be fair, that Xenoblade 2 track you posted has a really shitty intro but is pretty kickass the further it goes on.
>dat bassline groove into the string sections around 2 minutes in
>that guitar solo around 3:20
Also, I'm not surprised Sakurai put this track into Smash as its hands down my favorite combat theme
youtube.com/watch?v=ug-RW1n44Hg

yes
civ5 took loads of classical music and spruced some up
they took that song for alexander's theme

You know this recording is literally a best guess of what the original composition is supposed to be, right? Put together by a bunch of people in the 20th century.

>Yes, but that's besides the point.
lmao no it isn't wiibabby.

hey fuck you dude, the guy is just trying to have a conversation with you

Kondo didn't do that one. He did Steam Gardens, Forgotten Isle, Bowser's Kingdom 2 and the robot boss theme.

Also OP, you have shit taste.

even the midi is more listenable than today's "music"

doesn't everyone?
brawl's synths were incredibly annoying to listen to
smash 4 and ultimate have much better songs

but melee is best because still nothing tops final destination

The music in BoTW makes you feel more immersed while the music in stuff like OoT is more memorable. I'm really hoping the sequel to BOTW has that fine balance of immersion and charm you would want to listen in private time.

>XBC2's music
>downgrade
Imagine having taste this bad

Attached: Appropriate_Retort.jpg (306x382, 79K)

From what I remember of the google translated version of the liner notes for the OST (so take this with a grain of salt), Kenji Hiramatsu said something about how he was originally going to use a different song for the final boss that was from 'the protagonists' eyes', and that song was a favorite of his, but then Takahashi asked him to compose something that fit Malos's perspective more. And After Despair and Hope was what he made to replace the original song.
Or something like that, at least.

last wii game to use midi is warioware smooth moves.
2007 onwards is still using the wave format.

Your post doesn't change anything that I said, dude. It's a best guess of what that melody is. Even the most rudimentary of musical notation wouldn't be developed for hundreds of years, when the Church started realizing it's a pain in the ass to make everyone memorized every single hymn.

koji kondo is not making the music of 90% of their games anymore, no shit

he is just the supervisor gay

In this context MIDI is referring to the fact that these scores are done on a DAW using MIDI notation. i.e. it's synth.

really?

even if you played it out of tune and backwards it would be better than todays "music"

It's fun that some of the shittier games by Nintendo have great soundtracks.
youtube.com/watch?v=GphACo5c0Y0

If you played it backwards and out of tune, it would be an original composition, thus "today's" music.

>The music in BoTW makes you feel more immersed
it failed

But you haven’t been noticing me fucking your mom?

>galaxy vs odyssey
Sure, but Galaxy 1/2 have the greatest OSTs of all videogaming, so it's almost unfair

>SS vs BOTW
BOTW's ost is better

This is just a simple modal progression over Dorian. Hardly what I'd call "perfect harmony and melody", but you probably have no idea what I'm talking about since you speak like you an ignoramus.

Really what?

The original music in Smash 4 onwards has indeed been shit:

youtube.com/watch?v=UYEvTDqvyTE
youtube.com/watch?v=X30HvEd2ZKQ

The main themes have also lacked soul of any kind since Smash 4.

uh huh, and when musicians play an arrangement of a beethoven piece, then obviously it would count as "modern" music right? RIGHT?

Retard

you mum is your dad

Are they playing it fucking backwards? Then yeah, maybe. Shit buddy, thanks. I might be able to get a grant or two off that idea.

Ultimate's OST was mostly an upgrade to Smash 4's. I like that song you posted myself, but I can see why you would find Brawl's better. I still think Brawl triumphs over both but Ultimate had some bangers.

Shimomura, dude.

there's only been 1 game since smash 4

You gotta hand it to Nintendo for making the greatest pleb filter OST of all time with BotW

>Reach that final stretch of the game starting with Morytha
>Mechanical Rhythm 2.0 starts playing

The final 3 chapters of XC2 were fucking amazing.

Attached: 075.jpg (680x383, 29K)

CAPTAIN SYRUP IS WAPEACH HOLY SHIT

I like a few select songs in Ultimate, although the commitment to sticking to the main theme motif holds it back, as it does in most Smash games where it's a thing. Still, Dharkon's theme is very serviceable & enjoyable:
youtube.com/watch?v=C9RsfOvRjYM

The original music isn't bad, I think. Talking remixes, though, Brawl definitely had much better ones than Smash 4 and Ultimate.
youtube.com/watch?v=1X2sv5W8CGc
youtube.com/watch?v=xgPaGjJ6Lxo

Posts from OP are getting faggier.

Adventure's End was better.

What went wrong that all the soul the music Brawl had went away in every game since?:

Smash was still the pinnacle of the series. Give it the current and upcoming Ultimate roster and it'd be perfect.

Please don't call Kondo san gay.

but what is his cock doing inside your ass

If the music feels disorganized then that's honestly a good thing. The music in the game is supposed to be from various bands within the Splatoon world, so if all the music sounded similar it wouldn't feel that way.

Absolutely. It rivals Grand Finale for me.

I listened to metal, Linkin Park, and My Chemical Romance when I was young, now I listen to no music like it.

please come back to Xenoblade
