should i get ratchet and clank also

Yes. Sly 2 is god tier, sly 1 and 3 are both great, thieves in time is worth playing

Sly 1 is boring, Sly 2 is fantastic, and Sly 3 misses a lot of what made Sly 2 so great. Definitely play Sly 2.

R&C is a lot more consistent. The first four PS2 games (R&C, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, and Deadlocked) are all worth playing. I never played Size Matters so I can't comment on that one.

1 is my favorite. It's a focused ninja platformer with the occasional gimmick stage. 2 is tons of gimmicks and backtracking across hub levels to reach mission waypoints, but the game is still good overall. 3 is 2 but half as interesting. 1 and 2 are definitely worth playing.

Yes the Sly series is good, 4 is the weakest storywise, 3 is probably the weakest gameplaywise. Overall its a good package.

R&C PS2 games are god tier, the series sadly stagnates a bit into the PS3 era and then the remake is kind of trash given how much cut content there is.

1 differs most from the franchise, with it basically being a run-of-the-mill ps2 platformer
2 can be considered as the best in the series.
3 is basically the same as 2, but with the whole difference being that it consist of 70% minigames and 30% of (kinda dumped down) gameplay.
4 is really not that well made, you wont really miss much if you dont play it.

2>1>3

1 had the best episode intros at least.

Sly 2 and 3 are GOAT tier and 1 is a few notches below but still great. Fun gameplay, memorable characters, story, god tier music, etc. Sly 4 looks like shit graphically and has some stupid mechanics but scratches the itch a bit once you've finished the others.

it never occurred to me sly was basically reading all the villians upbringings (including his own too)

Not really. They're all mediocre platformers that carry themselves on gimmicks.

As everyone else in the thread has already said, Sly games are fantastic. Same with the Ratchet PS2 games.
You'll also want to play Jak and Daxter. First game is a really fun collectathon. The 2nd game tries way too hard to be edgy and a GTA clone, but it's still a fantastic game. Can't comment on the 3rd, I've never played it.

I think it really depends on a lot of factors. It's pretty campy as far as story goes, but it's super charming and has a nice art style. If you have a soft spot for old school 3D platformers or just enjoy stealth without demanding too much depth I would 100% recommend it. Sly 1 is more of a traditional 3D platformer whereas sly 2 is more stealth focused in a subtle way. The gadgets/powerups are also much better in 2. All in all, if you just wanted to play one game to get a feel for the series, I would recommend Sly 2.

i feel like it is worth playing but the furry shit gross me out

I miss it

All three are worth playing.1 is just a tight and focused platformer with just an all-around excellent presentation across the art, music, dialogue, and level design. 2's considered by most who played it to be one of the best games on the system. It expands on the first with more varied challenges in stealth and a more consistent artstyle. 3 is the same as 2 but starting to wander away from the core gameplay to introduce gimmicks. They weren't really that bad as far as gimmicky mechanics go, but turned a lot of people off to the game.

it's essentially like Crash Bandicoot, 1 first one was an arcade platformer, second was the best one and the third was the gimmicky one
I like to look at the Sly Cooper series as Crash Bandicoot's successor.

Yeah bro, get the hd collection on the ps3.

Play on original hardware or emulate it if you can, by the way. The HD collection has a lot of texture issues that kind of ruin the experience.

Still disappointed by all the wasted potential with 4. Could have brought back Clockwerk but all he was was an easter egg and none of the villains really stood out like the ones from 1 and 2.

Yeah, they're pretty fun.
The Ratchet and Clank games are pretty good, too.

>Immortal robotic owl that is powered by pure hatred.
Clockwerk was a really cool villain despite having very little actual screentime. Especially in 2 where Sly described each individual piece of him.
