I often wondered what it's like for people who grew up with technology or movies back then.
Were they in awe of what was capable? Or were people already cynical shits thinking it looks like garbage? Hell, this same conversation occurs frequently for the SNES era, or even the PS1, PS2 era. But what about when Pong came out? Where do you draw the line between a difference in personal preference and "you had to grow up with it".

On the movie side, stuff like the old Kaiju movies come to mind. I never grew up watching those so they all look like shit to me. My apologies there. But similar to video games, was this sentiment as common back then or were people simply amazed by what could be shown on the big screen?

Video games aren't his true passion. He's a filmmaker who stumbled upon what was the untapped entertainment goldmine of internet videos while already knowing how to make an entertaining short after doing so hundreds of times just for the fun of it.
Then you have the people who didn't know it was character and just assumed that James really was a guy just like them who doesn't know jack shit about amything but video games who just turned on a camera one day, so they think they can do it, too. Honestly, his obsession with nostalgia borders on creepy. The guy basically recreated a video rental store in his basement to remember what it was like to be a kid who went to go get movies. He seems to know so little about any new video games, music, television, or anything that isn't movies. Even then most of the movies he tends to see (or at least review) are ones that are sequels to old movies like Creed/Creed 2, or are Nostalgia movies like Super Hero movies. I mean the guy gives overall favorable reviews to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Episodes 2 and 3 of Star Wars. There are plenty of other weird examples as well.
