I'll try not to blabber too much about it, but I wanted an RPG that looked like Super Mario RPG and even played like it, but with modern mechanics and a speed of play that's more appropriate to how quickly people can think. Some RPGs can take over a minute for everyone in your party and then for the enemies to attack. It's agonizing. Combine that with occasional Punch-Out!! type mechanics when you're on defense, along with an exploration closer to the very first Zelda game where you don't have to grind and can instead rely on your skill to get good stuff early, I figured it could be somethin good. Somethin friendly for both new players and speedrunners.

It has aroused my curiosity so I have questions and stuff
what determines weather you fail or succeed a block? is it based on a probability determined by a character's stats and/or equipment (shields would obviously have good purpose then) or is it based on something skill/timing based? maybe a blend of the two, with larger shields making it extremely easy and can just be held without needing to time normal blocks but with swords it would be something like 2/10 of a second just to halve damage, maybe an even tighter timing for perfect blocks, sort of how different shields or weapons have different parry timings in dark souls.
obviously this would present a problem since if it were possible to perfect block everything than as long as you can get it everytime you could get through the entire game, unless unblockables are a thing
and when you fail a block, does it give the enemy a free extra attack or does it just mean you can't block next turn? if it's the latter it doesn't seem punishing enough, unless it were to guardbreak you and take a turn from you or give the enemy a riposte next turn. I'm sure the former, while simpler would probably be the better way to go about things
either way it seems like an interesting concept, there are so many things to consider, if you wanted you could even copy dark souls and add a stamina mechanic to make blocking even more of a tradeoff

my curiosity/concern mainly comes from this:
rpg games get their depth from their rpg mechanics, making it more about strategy
action games get their depth from their combat mechanics, making it more about skill
there are games like Kingdom Hearts II and Witcher 3 that are action RPGs but neither of them have the more depth in combat or rpg mechanics alone, but their action elements and rpg elements do compliment each-other pretty well, so they end up being pretty good blends of the genres
obviously it looks like your game is more rpg than action but I like it, what you said about RPGs taking over a minute for everyone to attack is one of worst things about turn-based games. the last "turn-based" rpg i enjoyed was final fantasy XII but that's because it's active battle system and how it can feel really fast, especially if you put it on active and max speed, needing to manage a whole party in realtime is a massive challenge so it's good the game still lets you set the speed to whatever you want. obviously gambits were necessary for it to work since you can pretty much "program" the A.I. of your party members
either way I feel that you need to get this game made if only to possibly push turn-based combat forward, it hasn't really had much change in a while

it's sort of why I was concerned by "5 frames for a perfect block". while that timing is pretty tight, in a turn-based game you'll pretty much always know when the attack is coming so you'll probably be able to time it every time so it needs some sort of consideration. not to mention there's a case to be made that turn based games should have no timing required and be all strategy. I think most can agree seeing the same slow, boring animations every fight is bad and takes too long, making it more of an exercise of tedium rather than needing to use your brain

That's exactly what would happen. And it has happened on a few occasions for, admittedly, smaller projects. But more importantly, cemu. They were up past 25,000 USD a month, they started pumping out updates, botw was made playable, and... then everybody stopped paying. they're down to 5k a month (which is far from bad, but it's an 80% drop). People don't want to pay for something that they don't have to. So instead of actually working, they drip this content out, when in truth, things are already done.

i have a theory that your art needs to still look somewhat amateurish to really get people off. patreon wegs are the armpit of internet porn so they need to feel grimy like they were scrawled during furious fapping to really feel authentic

there are a few pro artists with wegs but their stuff is always so polished and squeaky clean (content-wise too, no edge) that they don't do as well
