I'm not gonna go into detail, but whatever playthrough you do, whatever choices you make, Lee is canonically an asshole who is only nice to two people. Even those people he constantly uses as tools for his own survival. He really doesn't become the good step-dad we all know him as until episode 5 when he knows he's at death's door and basically atones for everything he's done.
