I've heard some people find this entry in the series polarizing, why?
Is Resident Evil 5 a good or bad game?
Other urls found in this thread:
because they diversified the game by adding too many white people
better than dead space
It's like heavily streamlined RE5, designed with co-op in mind. All alone, it is unbearable and boring, no less thanks to the idiotic AI. It also ditches the few bits of survival horror and campy humor 4 still had.
>*It's like heavily streamlined RE4
FTFM
If you play solo, use the Alone in Africa mod and a cheat table that makes all the gun enemies into regular melee ones.
Resident Evil 5 is an excellent game. The problem is that, along with 4 and 6, it strays from the slower paced combat, puzzle solving and item management of the games before them so a lot of people consider them "bad" RE games. If you enjoy fluid, action-y co-op with a bunch of over the top dialogue and set pieces then RE5 is an excellent game.
It's a fun action game if you have a friend to co-op with, if you don't then it's a very shit game
but only slightly better
my problem w/ 5 is that it's unplayable alone, and it and later sequels kept going full retard, even by 4's standards.
The only people who like it enjoy it because they played a game with a friend, not because of the game itself
It's a good game, just not a good Resident Evil game.
It's cuck kino
This board needs to be purged
I was joking
Dead Space 2 is better than both by immense amounts
It's both. It's a terrible single player game, but a good co-op game.
2>1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>RE5
It's mediocore, just like re4. But still playable
whoa there. RE4 is one of the best games of all time
I'd rather play Re5 than Re4. Both are shitty at being RE games, but at least 5 you can have a blast with the coop.
Stop using this bait. I'm running out of Beccas
its not bait. The game is that good. Most people agree with me on this
Can you refute the claim?
As a representation it's a godawful, pitiful abortion of an attempt and it really should've been its own IP. As an action game it's profoundly mediocre as the few holdovers from RE tradition such as limited inventories and stiff movement hold it back from being greater in that regard, which is at least one thing to RE6's merit that it improved. Design-wise, it's basically the village section of RE4 repeated ad nauseum with no nuance, making it a very repetitive grind of clearing rooms, walking forward 10 feet, and doing the same damn thing you just did all over again for most of its 10-ish hour runtime. Its only redeeming qualities are Wesker, Sheva being hot, and a legion of people willing to put up with mediocrity because somehow doing boring things with friends makes it more fun. Easily the worst mainline RE.
Most normies also like fortnite. I guess you're right, popular = best
It ruined the series by removing all survival horror and the enemies are pinatas. Try actually playing the games before it if you don't realize the difference
I really like it
but something about the final wesker fights didn't compute with me and my buddy so we took way longer than we should have
Pretty good game
The only good thing about it is Jill land Wesker
>It ruined the series by removing all survival horror and the enemies are pinatas. Try actually playing the games before it if you don't realize the difference
i mean yeah
you're just stating facts, but the game is good
>It ruined the series by removing all survival horror and the enemies are pinatas
I dunno man, Code Veronica kept a lot of aspects from earlier games and completely shat the bed, so I think 4's divergence was justifiable at that point.
all resident evil mainline games are good
5 and 6 aren't. 0's on the fence.
i'm not sure about even calling 0 mainline anyway
and you are wrong
5's too mechanically anchored to the old ways to shine as the action game it wants to be. 6 gets the mechanics right but is a case study in unrepentantly ass game design from top to bottom.
RE2 is the one that removed all survival horror. The first game is the only one that tried to focus on anything other than action.
You'll need a friend to play it with. Your AI partner will go out of her way to make your life harder.
Theres a couple of set piece moments that arent great.
The story is another is laughably capcom but for a resident evil story its damn near Shakespearean.
It was a good way to say good bye to the Resident Evil series. Or at least that was my take away.
Just remember game is the product of everybody chasing the call of duty dollar and the game not really terror inducing. Still theres some fun to be had.
>5's too mechanically anchored to the old ways to shine as the action game it wants to be.
how so?
You have to stop and fire. Instead run and gun. I dont think you can strafe either but has been like almost ten years since i played.
Played it a shit ton and used to like it but found replaying it boring after having a blast with 6 recently.
>saves the series
I got kinda excited when i first saw Wesker and he says Two on Two Chris. I dont know why but was hoping for a two on two pick up basket ball mini game. Getting slamed on the court by zero suit Jill and watching it on the Sprite cam instant replay
It's much more gung-ho than 4 and yet it still pulls shit like being unable to move and shoot at the same time or slowing its action down with item management. Even 4 gets away with that for still generally being a slower paced game, but 5 clearly wants to go balls to the wall and it just doesn't mesh. It's an awkward point of transition where it doesn't completely abandon the series' roots but also moves just too far away from its heritage for the threads that do linger to make sense.
>You have to stop and fire. Instead run and gun. I dont think you can strafe either but has been like almost ten years since i played.
no offense man but that a really bad idea
Being forced to stand still is actually better in terms of game design though. The ganados in 4 and 5 are actually threatening, since they can feasibly catch up to you even when walking. Compare that to dead space where necromorphs are a complete joke even on the highest difficulty, and the only way the designers were able to make them dangerous was by either having them spawn behind you or explode from half the screen away and one shot isaac.
As someone who loves it to death, Sheva AI can't be relied upon and many of the stationary bosses have cancerous mobs that artificially inflate the difficulty.
Production values are through the roof though
For horror games, yes. 4 was barely a horror game in spots and 5 doesn't even really try anymore.
Boy i wish i did. The Mercenary mode on that was pretty fun. I like the fact 6 had multiple stories in it but there was just so much i didnt like about it. Still not my least favorite RE title. That one is Veronica but i think im the only one in that camp.
it's a based game
>Expecting campy humor in a Chris game
Chris was always the straight-man protagonist. You want quips you go with Leon or Claire. Besides, Wesker turned the ham up to 11 for his sendoff.
Item management took a big step back and you're playing with an AI, if you're by yourself. It killed the experience for me.
You have got to be kidding me
no resident evil game is scary to anyone 13+
None taken bud. But i do remember taking some cheap shots while stopping. Hey hed stopped to aim oh lets get him. Meanwhile my AI partner is eating crisp telling giving me random RE trivia
>giving me random RE trivia
man those loading screens were good
Doesn't mean shit. Horror games adhere to different design philosophies than action games. 4 gracefully walked on the line dividing the two while 5 clearly picked one side of the fence while still playing mostly like the other.
Sorry about the horrible typing
Yeah they were. I actaully stopped the game to go back and read em
>4 gracefully walked on the line dividing the two while 5 clearly picked one side of the fence while still playing mostly like the other.
i really don't see a difference
Ever wonder why Shiva never shows up again in any other Re title. I like Shiva just wish she had her own or another game to star in. I mean shes not like Billy who got eaten by dogs in the woods or Carlos who Opened up a successful chain of dry cleaners in Santa Monica
It's subtle but different. 4 had plenty of action setpieces but also a fair variety of slower, tenser moments like the hedge maze with the dogs, the sewers with the invisible insects or the first regenerator encounter. 5 barely tries to leave that action setpiece wheelhouse though, it feels like it funnels you from one room full of enemies to the next with very little variety inbetween. The caves were probably the best about that but even then its attempts were sort of unsatisfying.
It's not perfect but it's good enough, definitely better than 6.
At least 5 is fun in co-op. 6 isn't.
Agreed
5 seemed to be trying too hard to recreate the village holdout from 4 ecery othet room, which is part of why it’s so exhausting after a while.
>Carlos who Opened up a successful chain of dry cleaners in Santa Monica
wat
I mean thats what i do if i survived Raccoon City. But then up until recently i thought Rebecca died in Raccoon City. I always thought she was the female zombie in Re2. But then the movie came out and was like naw shes fine. That female zombie did kinda look like
Only good thing in game
Her
Kino.
I stay Chris.
You go.
Should've been Ada who died
It's shit but in a good way. Play co op with a friend. Then there's this gem: youtube.com
