The DEFINITIVE Mario Kart ranking

Wii >>> 64 = DS > 8 > 7 > DD
The 2D games aren't good
Also special mention for Double Dash, while the gameplay sucks its track design is top notch and the special items are neat and some of them should come back as regular items (Bowser shell would be fun for a middle-place item)

This.

Never understood why people liked ds so much. Redpill me on it.

>Double Dash worse than 8 and 7
At least the acceleration isn’t fucked up like in those games.
And at least it had character specific stats and gimmicks.
7 and 8 are sterile and polished and not quite accurate to Mario Kart driving. They are the smash 4 of Mario kart.

Snaking
Even if you don't like giving your thumb blisters, DS has some great tracks (Waluigi Pinball, Delfino Plaza, Tick Tock Clock, Airship Fortress, DS Bowser's Castle) and overall is just a solid-feeling, well-controlling Mario Kart that became the basis for all future games. Also it introduced Retro Tracks.

( CTGP > ) DS > DD > SMK & SC > Wii > 8D > 64 > 7
The 2D Games have the best & only actual skill floor of the series, which makes them a better solo experience than anything except DS, which has both multiplayer & solo. 64 is an abysmally shallow game, and 7 physically hurts to play on my end, but that's personal.

>wii
>at the top
Did something happen in the last year or something? Because that used to be considered the worst game.

CTGP happened
Also people stopped whining about bikes and got gud using them (helps that they're the most fun vehicle)

Wii is still a fantastic game, and n64 has some nice tricks and probably one of the better battle modes.

Though ultimately, Fzero X and GX will always be the better racing games

CTGP, a mod of Mario Kart Wii, was popularised and people came back to the game through Wimmfi. Its hard to rival a game that has 100+ tracks, and very fun modes like Item Rain ( Literally what it's called, Item rain from above & pop all around the course for the whole game )

Inside drift happened

How the fuck does someone think that 64 and DS are better than 7. It's literally the same game but better.

I'll give that N64 Battle Mode is pretty nice. N64 tracks are a pretty mixed bag though. with some tracks that are really just too long. Though it's not its fault too, 8 absolutely butchered the N64 tracks it featured ( Toad's Turnpike is the worst track in the game next to Dolphin Shoals, Yoshi Valley lost part of its uniqueness )

>Game is only superior with mods

>I don’t know about game mechanics

64 feels faster and harder in single player, also has better courses
DS has more depth in its drifting mechanics, and also has better courses
Both games don't have glider or underwater sections, which suck
7's original courses suck, and had to offset that by stealing all the great retro courses from 8

People download Brawl for Project M

OH and also neither game has COINS, which super-fucking suck. I like Mario Kart 8 but it would have been so much better if it didn't carry that over.

it was the first for many people.
personally is the one i played the most, it had freaking bosses.

Double dash is my favorite but wii has Funkey kong so mechanically it's the best

>Also it introduced Retro Tracks.
Super circuit also sorta had retro tracks, with all of the tracks from super mario kart

Super Circuit is underrated

People who grew up playing it became old enough to post here.

It used to be considered the worst game when it was new because new thing bad

You were so close dude
DS > 64
7 > 8

7 > Wii > DS > 65 > 8 > DD.

no one played it.
people is even ignorant that its the mario kart with more circuits.

How the fuck is 7 > 8
In what universe
8 is literally the almost exact gameplay of 7 but with better courses, a purple mini-turbo, bikes, and better graphics

Wii > Double Dash!! > DS > 8 Deluxe > 8 > 7 > 64 > Super Circuit > Super Mario Kart

I'd actually put Super above SC. Somehow despite being literally the same game, SC controls way fucking worse

underwater and flying are retarded gimmicks.

The courses are fine, it's just the mechanics that chug cock

Double Dash by far had the best Battle Mode

I'm 24 years old and I played MKW from like 2008 to 2014. There's a few competitivefags that post here on Yea Forums that either play on the Wiim-Fi server or what have you not. Take it as if it's Mario Kart's version of Melee.

SC seemed rather soulless imo. SMK is timeless but I guess it really depends on what your first Kart was.

Why do people always put 8/8D near the bottom of their lists? It's fun, has neat characters, good track design, and is absolutely beautiful.

I agree that it's aesthetically pleasing, it's just the most luck-based of them all.

DS that high is cringe. It only gets pity points for being portable.

Guess which game is portable now. Yeah, time to take out those nostalgia Googles

Kinda shallow mechanically
Removed inside-drifting bikes with wheelies from Wii, which, while busted, were a very fun kind of busted. They should have just done the less lazy approach and made karts better instead of sucking the fun out of bikes.

The item roulette makes no sense.

No one cares that DS is portable
7 is portable and literally everyone forgot about it once 8 came out
Nobody forgot about DS when Wii came out

How recent was this?

I think 5 years old at least? I used to be a part of the MKW community. Right around when Nintendo WFC for Wii shut down.

2014 for the modern version, even earlier for 1.0-1.2
In 2016 they added time trial support and a ghost database, which along with its anti-cheat functionality makes it very popular for time trials

You were doing good until you put DD behind 8 and 7

No one will ever claim brawl was the best smash though

I've put hundreds of hours into each Mario Kart so my opinions are objectively correct:

>Super Mario Kart
Never found this game to be very fun. A lot of the tracks are filled with shitty hazards.

>64
Drifting mechanics never felt very tight to me. Some good tracks like Choco Mountain. Has a good battle mode but I never really cared about battle desu.

>Super Circuit
Fun game and pretty much better than SNES in most ways. I've played the least amount of this but it's different enough to warrant a playthrough.

>Double Dash
After putting a decent amount of time into speedrunning this game I can say the drifting mechanics are pretty wack. I don't know, I'm just not a super huge fan of the 'flick-drift' style of drifting, I think it ultimately takes away from the mechancis. Still a fun game, though, even if it has the worst balance. In addition, I feel like I have the least amount of control over my car, with controls feeling a bit more slippery. The lack of any tricks or anything to make jumps fun makes ramps and bumps completely take away all momentum since you lose a lot of speed in the air.

>DS
Pretty gud. The track designers were really on some shit with this one. Not much bad things to say, overall a solid title. Still not super convinced on the 'flick-drift' but it feels better here than double dash.

>Wii
I've pretty much used exclusively Funky Kong on Flame Rider and it's fucking fun as fuck. Feels really fast and tight. Wish the air mechanics were a little better because sometimes the physics fuck you over. Track selection is meh though generally imo.

>7
Kind of just a worse version of 8D but has some tracks I hope we see again like Rosalina's Ice Planet and the Wario Shipwreck.

>8D
Got really obsessed with this game for a while to the point where I was playing online pretty much all day everyday for several weeks. Has a good speed and drifting feels tight. The characters are all balanced real well. I like the speed of 200cc but it needs polish.
