Thoughts on Gears of War?

1-3 are good, 4 is alright, Judgement is shit.

although that baird offshoot prequel or whatever with horde pvp was fun as fuck. i only played the beta but sneaking in as that exploding tick and allahackarbing the enemy team was loads of fun.

why do so many people sleep on the multiplayer of gow? ive had a lot of friends think that the multiplayer is just bland cover based shooter multiplayer but with the ammount of movement tricks and tech thats in the game you would think people would give it more attention

Gears 1 has the best campaign imo

Can this game be considered space opera?
It takes place on an alien planet, its got aliens and its militaristic, heck its very similar to Starship Troopers.

1-3 were amazing

Just like Halo, should have stopped there since they butchered the series after that. ODST was good though and Reach alright but H3 was the peak. Gears 3 was also the peak.

Gears: Masterpiece if it hadn't been for glitches, host advantage and one shot downs with active sniper
Gears 2: Rough start but patches made it great, still had host advantages and some less intrusive glitches
Gears 3: Piece of shit, loadouts never belonged in Gears, shitty maps designed for run and gun, tainted the series forever with team deathmatch but at least felt smooth and had severs
Judgment: Never played
Ultimate: Excellent port, missed the longer matches of the original but very, very good version
Gears 4: Strong entry, rights the wrongs of Gears 3 loadouts, controls better than ever but maps are as shity, if not worse than Gears 3 and Execution still overshadowed by the more casual TDM
Most people got 360s for CoD and Halo, so Gears' lasting legacy was all the bad influence it had on other games who stole mechanics and put them where they didn't belong.

How is it similar to Starship Troopers?

- 1 was good until people figured out how broken the sniper rifle was (which wasn't very long)
- 2 was shit because of host
- 3 and 4 were fantastic

It's got a fascistic government that treats it's soldiers better than everyone else. Other than that, not much.

GoW1 is the best by far. The others range from dogshit to ok.

The campaign and the versus may as well be two different games. And both of them are incredibly fun.

The average person didn't wanna learn all the tech and didn't have the patience to wait for the next round in ex or warzone after they would get bodied by someone that's been playing for longer.

That's an extremely shallow surface level comparison. The Terran Federation isn't even fascist, there's a difference between developing an ideology of military supremacy that glorifies war and the State, and having citizens demonstrate an understanding of civic virtue and personal drive by putting the lives of others ahead of their own in order to earn their franchise. The civilians aren't allowed to vote, but they aren't oppressed economically nor socially, as there are plenty of well off civilians (including Juan Rico and his family) who are allowed at any point to sign up for the military. And even then, that doesn't necessarily mean they have to fight to get their franchise, unless you go out of your way to end up in the Mobile Infantry, the government will gladly give you a relatively cushy military support position and send you home after your service with your franchise. All it takes is a few years of labor, the only difference being you're working for the military instead of a private company. What sort of fascist government goes out of its way to prevent people from fighting but gives them their voting rights just the same if and when they finish their term of service in a non-combat position? The comparison fails if you have actually read the book.
Besides, none of you actually believe in the democratic fantasy of every man getting a vote, do you? Not everyone has what it takes to be involved in politics.
