How do I get gud? I beat the game on Devil Hunter and Son of Sparda is a massive pain. I hate how most enemies are built to evade your attacks (Fury, the scissor cunts, the demon commander) and they warp out even if I knock them down. I know scissor cunts have an one-shot mechanic but its a pain to pull off when there are multiple enemies on the screen.

Just go to The Void and get good at air combos. You want to spend as much time in the air as possible on the harder difficulties. You generally can't be hit while in the air. It's easier than you think as Nero, but Dante can get a little complicated. But you have to learn it if you want to git gud.

Back when Nero first showed up in 4 (and it was pretty obvious he was Vergil's kid), the prevailing theory was that having a kid is WHY Vergil wanted power and the reasoning behind his "without power you can't protect anything" line to Dante in 3.

You can't get 2. The abilities are for being able to store 1, 2, and 3 levels of Exceed in storage. The default ability is Ex-ACT, which is 1 level of Exceed after an attack, and Max-ACT for 3 level of Exceed with tighter timing.

The problem with V, and you can see it in action, is the exact same problem Takahisa Taura had with parrying in MGR and dodging in Nier Automata:

If you, as the developer, are focused on playing intentionally, you can miss the natural results of just mashing the fuck out of buttons.

It’s easy to forget that in games like this, you can’t do multiple things at once as a matter of course, so you get into that headspace. But as soon as you let players engage in one action while simultaneously performing another action (typically because, in your mind as a developer, it raises the skill ceiling to be managing multiple sets of actions) you lose the natural punish for goin wacko on your controller.

V is an incredibly complex character who can be played by a moron by just slamming the X and Y buttons until your fingers hurt. And I can just visualize (as I saw actually done during dev demos of MGR and Automata) how the dev team doesn’t even realize this because they’re naturally playing with specific intent behind every button press.

V needed to be balanced better; specific attacks should have involved him standing stationary and gesturing/instructing his familiars, so that just shitting out endless attacks didn’t leave him free to casually wander away from any threats.

Mostly headcanon on my part but i believe that if they open a portal with Yamato in hell and use it to escape that portal would continue open and only able to be closed from the demon world itself, so if they escape they'd essentially give free passage for a demon infestation

It was weird that they didn't calm Nero's fears that he would never see them again, and it's also weird that he thought they'd be stuck in hell in the first place. For starters, Nero doesn't really know how portals to the underworld work in the first place, so he had no reason to think they'd be stuck there as soon as they destroyed the Qliphoth roots. What Nero DOES know is that the Yamato was used to open the portal to hell in DMC4.

But still, Dante or Vergil should have just told him "chill, nigga. we have yamato".

I pretty much just use air/ground trick to close gaps and teleporting the fuck out of AoEs. Also the triple jump with summoned swords out.

Fat rolling and jump is a good enough doudge for like 99% of situations, if you really want to avoid damage just use royal guard or clash swords.

Pretty sure there is no level 2. Rather it goes 1/3, 1, and 3 for minor medium and major.

Only guns I want are faust and E&I. Coyote never felt useful enough and I don't like how slow KA feels, even though a few of its moves are pretty wacky. Maybe when I unlock full custom I'll switch to only coyote and KA to force myself to have fun with it.

Hitstop is additive in the game, and derived from damage dealt and in the case of counters, prevented. Real Impact does a lot of fucking damage, countering does a lot of fucking damage, and thus they both produce a fuckton of hitstop. Countering stronger attacks provides even more hitstop. Seems to be a relic concept from MT Framework, since you can do that in Dragon's Dogma as well via a well-timed Arc.

2. DT'd enemies DT sooner but become like 20% faster and more aggressive instead of just the same enemies but with 5x more defense and health
3. Characters can play any mission
4. Playable Vergil
5. Improve on V

It's a fun game. I had a good time beating the game all the way to S-ranking HAH. Took me about 75 hours since launch. Well worth my money. Could have been much better though.

Qliphoth Roots, Artemis, Nidhogg, Geryon, Gilgamesh and Mallet Island Trio. Each of the Urizen fights is okay, with the M17 Urizen being the best of them. Goliath is mediocre. Vergil, Malphas, Cerberus and Cavaliere are the only truly good bosses.

The combat alone may make DMC5 the best action combat of all time, but the lackluster boss and enemy roster, alongside the lazy DMD difficulty, prevents it from being the best action game of all time.

I mostly agree with you but I still rate it a 9.5. It suffers from RE6 of splitting the characters too much which affects the pacing of the story to a crawl but doesn't have the content density of that game.

It's a total misfire that you can't select characters in any mission. A mixed bag group of bosses is pretty consistent with DMC. They always range from bland to good tp fucking awesome.
