They're still putting out content for this game? What the hell? I thought they were just pushing out content for Endless Space 2.

>Bought this on release
>Great game
>Want to play it again
>Half of the content as it is is locked behind $100 worth of DLC
>Don't feel like playing it anymore
Boy howdy I love modern video games

I know people who pirate stuff like $2000 worth of dlcs for train simulators and probably the only people who enjoy the game with full content.

Mediocre at best. All the flaws of modern 4X games are present along with new ones.

Endless Legend is actually more of a Heroes clone, than traditional 4x.

It still doesn't push the game above mediocrity.

>game gets more content post-launch
>this is somehow a bad thing

Yea if only the combat was as good as heroes this would've been the perfect game.

>X4
Boring shit

Adding to this more unit variety with unique abilities would've been great as well like 3 is just so limiting even if you do have the neutrals which you can incorporate in your army.

Not really. 4X can have detailed units and combat. Age of Wonders is a thing, for example.

>tfw love Age of Wonders 1 for its gameplay, art style and feel but find it difficult to get into Shadow Magic
Everything is just so jarring.

I mean, take your pick with fantasy 4X. There's probably less than dozen of them and most are mediocre. Master of Magic is still top dog.

MoM>Heroes3>AoW2>AoW3>EndlessLeg
From what I've played anyway

Endless Legend doesn't know whether it wants to be fantasy or science fiction.

It’s good but that combat is dogshit.
Just what were they thinking? There were so many options to choose from, they could’ve just straight up copy/pasted from AOW or Heroes 5 to have something decent.

Heroes isn’t 4x

It's a mix of both which I think is what they were going for. It feels unique and interesting.

>Heroes isn’t 4x
It follows the same model but it tweaks gameplay a little bit.

Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes is probably one of the more straight up examples.

How's Age of Wonders 3?

Not really, the map portion is completely different there is next to no management in the sense of how it’s done 4x it is very simple in that regard but heroes is primarily a combat focused title.

Maybe but it still follows the 4X model
>you explore the map
>you expand your territory by flagging dwellings, resources and other towns
>you exploit said resources and towns
>you exterminate other players

Focus of gameplay has shifted to heroes but it's still the same concept.

Just fuck it, man. I don't think sea monsters, espionage or volcanoes are worth $15 a piece but I also don't feel like the game is worth playing half-done. I feel like if I'm missing out on a lot of content then what's the point?

I'm not saying it's a bad thing overall, just bad for me

Not him but I completely agree with you.
Either keep the game in dev for a big longer so you can implement your ideas effectively or release the content for free. Paradox is the worst for this.

>it has all the flaws of modern 4x
Like non-shit UI?

>dislike the slow early game of vanilla MoM
>dislike the "muh balinse" changes of Caster of Magic

wtf do I play

Great concepts, great economy, shit combat. New faction is a cool idea but are Forgotten tier weak. Gotta get around to modding their units to be less dogshit and captured cities to not obliterate your empire plan and then they'll be fun.

>endless legend has a good ui
It takes some skill, but they actually made a worse UI.

Say what you want about Endless games but the ui is great.
Endless Space 2 especially.

Caster of Magic freezes on world generation for me half the time.
I jump around between fantasy and space 4x games.

Why were simtex so fucking godly.

Combat is fine, it's just that you either like it or hate it on principle. Then again I also liked Endless Space combat for what it was. People simply tend to air "if it's not specifically what I want, it's shit" kind of mentality. Endless Space specifically has the inglorious position of being surpassed by the sequel in every way, for example.

Anyone has mega with endless space comics?

i kind of like the hands off approach to combat that endless space has. also planetary invasions are pretty cool.

It wasn't that difficult to surpass it.

I'm just pissed because I bought the complete version and put it off saying I'd play it someday, only for it to receive two new expansions.

they have the best model for dlcs. each one adds a new mechanic and some facton that is designed with that mechanic in mind, plus they usually bundle it with another dlc being released for the other endless game at a discount.

I hope there will be Allayi in Endless Legend 2.

Endless legend combat feels unfinished. It had potential but it just ends up really bland. Initiative is also far to dominant, it can easily end up with one side making all the actual tactical decisions while the other may as well be auto resolving. Out of all the various 4x games I've played, I rank it's combat around the bottom, considering I find most 4x games to already have somewhat disappointing combat, being beneath the average in the genre qualifies it as shitty combat for me. The game makes up for it with a notably superior economy for the genre though.

It's a mix between Civ and Heroes, excels in neither and has a UI bloat like all Amplitude games.

>UI bloat
it has a pretty trimmed down UI though, if you want to talk UI bloat look at civ 6.

To be honest AoW1 was closer to Master of Magic than any other game i played. Shadow Magic however has random map generator and extremely replayable because of it.
I wonder if community made enough maps for AoW1.

I had a look myself a few years back. There's no user made RMG but there's a fair few maps out there for AoW1.
Great game desu.
I think all 3 have something to offer. Definitely going to give Shadow magic another try sometime soon.

Real reason why Heroes is not 4x is because its based on King's Bounty, an old Strategy RPG game, which came out 4 years before Master of Magic. And technically Heroes is just skirmish version of King's Bounty.
Same ideas, but different roads of genre evolution.

Yeah I remember Kings Bounty.
HoMM even came back to that original Kings Bounty formula when they made a PS2 Heroes which basically was just a reskin of Kings Bounty.
