Should I upgrade my monitor to 1440p and all that shit along with getting a better GPU? Currently I have a 1080p monitor and a GTX 1060 6gb.

144hz is way better user

Well, in the very least you can cap it at 60, or whatever frame rate you want if performance starts to suffer.
But if you get a 1440p monitor and the performance sucks ass, it'll look blurry as fuck if you lower it to 1080p. You're just shit out of luck.

but I have a 1060 3gb user. and play 1080 144hz just fine. what games are you gonna play?

get 1440p 144hz monitor with a really good GPU like GTX 1080. also get faster ram speed, 3200mhz minimum and DDR4 dual channel 16gb
if you cant afford that then it's not worth upgrading. just save up money for few weeks-months

hes not OP

I need to upgrade my CPU for some games, but 1440p/144hz on my Vega 56 (OC'd to Vega 64 perf) is pretty fucking nice. DMCV was heavenly.

1080p 60 has always been great and still looks great, why do people insist on upgrading so bad

Can't a GTX 1060 6gb run pretty much anything at 60 fps

144hz is insanely better but other than screen real estate I dont think 1440p is worth it graphically because all it does is hurt your framerate while looking the same
just what I see

Imagine being her mother and knowing that you have failed on your first run. Her only hope is that her youngest daughter isn't going to grow up to be such a degenerate.

What would having a Noa gf be like

I'm assuming you're going 1440p for 120-144Hz. That'll tax your CPU, so even if a 1060 is good enough, your CPU might bottleneck you.

since you only have a 1060, just stay at 1080p and go for the higher framerate panel and get a displayport cable so you can actually utilize over 60hz. i'm about to upgrade from 1080p 60hz to a slightly bigger monitor with at 1080p with 144hz. i've got the 1070ti and i'm sticking with 1080 because i don't want to spend a lot of money, and there isn't a big enough difference to waste the processing power on.

by the time i have to build a new rig maybe five-six years from now, 2k and/or 4k will be as abundant as 1080 is now
here's my new new

An incestuous child isn't much better

Is the AMD Vega 56 a solid card for someone who wants to play new games at 1080p?

Because 1440p 144hz is literally another world, theres no comparing.

>(OC'd to Vega 64 perf
Is there any real performance gain on this?

1440p and 144hz or bust.

>Can't a GTX 1060 6gb run pretty much anything at 60 fps
no. for division 2 I have to run it at medium/high to achieve 60fps+ consistently as is the case for most modern multiplatform triple a games. it's mostly shitty optimizing I guess

What's the minimum I need for 1440p/120-144hz?
Is 144hz that much of an upgrade from 120 or 60hz?

Will I like this

I run a 1440p 165 Hz Dell monitor on a 1080 ti, and if you can afford it then I would absolutely recommend it, especially if you play FPS games. If not, then just a 1440p 60 Hz is fine probably.

Could pick up a 60 Hz 4k monitor if you're willing to shell out for a GPU good enough to handle it. From my understanding a 2070 is good enough for most games at 4k, but might need a 2080.

I don't think so.

my boss called me...

>Is 144hz that much of an upgrade from 120 or 60hz?
Yes, but chances are you won't notice it until you enable the correct refresh rate. Most monitors will have 60hz or so refresh rate on by default, so you'll need to go into display settings and change that manually, to actually notice the difference.

Use the three episode rule and decide for yourself.

My amigo runs on 1440p/144 Hz with a GTX 1070 but he has to put most of his games on low to get it above 100+ FPS.

I run a GTX 1080 ti with a similar monitor and I can struggle with some games, like Apex Legends for example. I get around 100-110 FPS on high settings/1440p res. With older games, such as Overwatch, for example, I can easily get above 150 FPS with no issue even on high/max settings.

So, it really depends on how new the games you are playing are. If they're brand new/not too well optimized, you're going to need a 20 series card, probably at least a 2070 to run 1440p with 144 FPS.

As for your second question, 144Hz is a big upgrade from 60Hz. Massive. Definitely worth it. 120Hz to 144Hz? Not so much. I wouldn't buy a new monitor for that minor of a difference. If I was upgrading a 120Hz monitor, I would either go for a 200+Hz monitor or jump up the resolution.

>You will never fuck any of these girls
It's not fair!

Get a 144hz 1440p monitor. Play competitve FPS games at 144hz 1080p, play any other game at 1440p

Honestly though, going from 60hz to 144hz was a massive game changer in FPS games

Imagine what you could do with just sweets or a camera...

I got a 1444p 144hz ips hdr monitor for around $340. 1070ti will get you average 90-100 fps on 1440p on high to max settings with many more recent games in older games you'll reach that upper limit in most cases. For non-graphically intense games though, you'll easily reach that upper fps limit. Although the difference between it and the 1080 is mostly marginal in performance. But cost needs to be factored in here. A 1080ti would allow you to reach that upper limit much more. However, the big important thing here is that you could almost always downgrade your resolution or graphical settings to achieve that upper limit. The other beauty is that you still find massive benefits from higher frame rates that don't even reach the cap while being at 2k. The best part of the entire thing is that browsing feels super smooth and the added space feels super big for doing general work like typing up a document while have reference material on the same screen. Your old 1080p 60hz monitor as a second monitor also feels amazing. I personally love putting up a video, music, or my browser on it at fullscreen while playing or doing work with the 2k 144hz monitor. If you do choose to make the jump I recommend making sure you stay with 27 inches to prevent scaling issues. If you go bigger then you'll lose resolution, but if you go smaller you'll experience annoying stuff like tiny text. Though I'm sure that this problem mostly applies with 4k scaling, but it's still a consideration. It's really underestimated how great it feels with the smoothness. I probably won't even jump to 4k unless we get a 120-144hz affordable 4k monitor. Smoothness really is superior to resolution, though the latter is a great visual addition.
