Time to face it bros, sprites are dead and pointless in this day and age, when 3d can do it better and with far less effort. You'd NEVER be able to make a scene that looks as good as the right using sprites, especially that sense of perspective and depth it has, it looks 3 dimensional, not a flat surface
Note to indie devs, if you're working with sprites, don't. Scrap that shit, move to Unreal Engine 4, and learn 3d modeling, you'll thank me due to how much easier it is.
I agree with op, sprites is a bad move and makes no sense in this day and age

I think it's a matter of artstyle more than anything. I'll still play third strike if i'm alive 30 years from now though.
Jackson Harris
yeah but making a sprite game now is pointless, you're just giving yourself extra work when someone else can do it in 3d way easier
Wyatt Walker
sorry bro but you cherry picked the image from 3d that looks kinda good. If you compare the moment to moment gameplay symphony of the knight is more appealing no contest, that's it if you're not blind. Sprites can never die out THEY FUCKING LOOK GOOD.
Look how bloodrayne went from being dark and gritty to kiddy shit thanks to sprites
Oliver Gomez
You can shit on Hollow Knight for a lot of things but the aesthetics aren't one of them.
Chase Evans
Some genres look kinda shit with it though, I've always liked 2.5D shmups and run n guns but 2D beat 'em ups look terrible. With flat 2D pics you can buy the abstraction of the characters only being able to face 2 directions, but when 3D models are limited to that it just feels weird and stupid.
Hudson Cruz
i disagree and cant be bothered to tell you how. but sprites dont inherently make an art style worse. Bloodrayne just had poor art direction
Jeremiah Roberts
How? In Bloodstained she's running through a castle with lots of halls, so it makes sense she can only go left or right, there's no point to her "going into the background" so to speak.
Andrew Diaz
I mean, Bloodstained looks like it's going to play just like Ecclesia. The protag moves about as fast, she has a design on her back, and the latest update even shows that they have a quick-change equipment system like Ecclesia did for its glyphs.
Carter Brooks
Did you not pay attention to the genre? 2D beat em ups aren't about going left to right like platformers, shmups or run n guns they effectively have 3D gameplay so that kind of abstraction is easier to swallow with sprites than 3D models.
