loved the psone
literally more portable and worthwhile than the switch

>more portable
u wot

It was $100, we got one for my cousin for Christmas , it was his first console since Nes, he got Gundam battle assault 2 and MegaMan X 4, we beat it and I remember X5 came out after that Christmas . I like how the controller was almost white

What is that cell phone attachment? Japan only?

According with this:

"In 2001, Sony released a nifty cable that linked to a mobile phone on one end and to the PS1’s controller port on the other. Coupled with the right software running on the PS1 and a cell phone data plan called i-mode, one could browse the Internet, albeit primitively. You could also play a few online games or download a few simple LCD games to your phone."

Kinda reminds me of a similar attachment for the Game Boy Color

I wish Sony went back to this kind of design. It's really nice.

Colored trans controllers were full of soul

Man.... what a time to be alive.
Sleeeeeek as fuck!

Interesting.

>used psOnes on ebay go for anywhere between $20-$50
>lost my entire game library to a flood so i'd have to invest hundreds if not thousands of dollars for my entire collection to be playable

why me.

Why cant we have crystal cases anymore?

goddamn, they need to bring that aesthetic back already.

Will there ever be a Playstation thread without someone mentioning Nintendo?

It was great but I had more fun with the snes, dreamcast and n64 during that era.

Listing any singular console will attract people wishing to compare it to other competitors of that generation.

eragon books!!!!!!!!! hahah

Are you kidding? That generation is the first that can really take advantage of an EDTV or LCD. Sure there are jaggies but only autists and zoomers who never played a game without AA get their panties in a twist about jaggies.

Imagine having this ugly toaster looking thing on your TV set

Attached: Panasonic-Q-Console-Set.jpg (3940x2380, 2.46M)

Are you kidding? EDTVs are 480p panels and less than 10% of the PS2 library is 480p. You then have the god awful black levels of early 2000's LCDs, the god awful viewing angles of early 2000 LCDs, and the god awful response time of early 2000 LCDs and you're trying to feed it fucking 480i.

Never post again please.

It seems like your comparing the PS2 to today's standards. Playing the PS2 in the early 2000's on your average LCD this was never an issue for most people.

Because most people used a CRT. You obviously have no idea or any experience with what you're talking about. Those old LCDs are awful. Take a refresher course.

I always wanted one, but I didn't exactly have a job when they came out and my family was poor, so it was never happening.
Same with the PSX (not the PS1). Except that thing apparently had serious quality control issues.

I do have experience with those LCDs. They were fine for their time and yeah they were obviously awful compared to their predecessors.

they weren't fine for their time, they were the worst option at their time.

Worse than CRT yes but not as bad as you're making them out to be. Even to this day the PS2 is better played on CRT in some cases.

>shit-looking remake of the original
>soul
Go choke on a tide pod, zoom-zoom. Do your parents a favor and "dab" out of existence.

>of that generation.
Pretty sure the switch wasn't generation 5

Go use one again. I've used 4 today. They have:
>really bad response times
>ghosting out the ass
>issues de-interlacing 480i
>blurry image over component
>very poor viewing angles
>horrendous black levels
>plenty of backlight bleed
LCD was technically an immature technology at the time, using a period correct one for PS2 would be absurd and result in horrendous game play and hideous picture.

XD

Where the fuck can i find a large 4:3 lcd like that? Been looking for a while.

Looks fine to me. Many EDTVs are actually a higher resolution like 800x600. But they handle 480i and 480p just fine. And response time doesn't matter unless you are playing fighting games or beatmania IIDX. Which you should go to an arcade to do anyway. For all other games just git gud.

Using one today isn't the same as using a brand new one nearly two decades ago in terms of relative performance considering the time. Of course they had problems but it wasn't that godawful using one during the early 2000's.

AOL, dead forever cause they couldnt keep up.

Attached: pcengine-cdrom2_1.jpg (1859x1046, 189K)

I had Dreamcast at launch my brother had PS2 around when Onimusha came out, got GameCube at launch and Xbox in 2002, I think that was the best era of gaming 1999-2002. Also N64 was still kicking ass with Majora's Mask Banjo Tooie and Pokemon Stadium 2

Same model I had. I miss my NGPC and games.

People have not so obvious inclination to move towards touch capable devices as opposed to buttons. They like the "futuristic" design. It's why every single system has fucking shitty static prone touch sensitive buttons at some point, that always get thrown out.

Truly the patrician choice when it came to handhelds. I remember playing a shitty soccer game which didnt even had name licenses, metal slug and king of fighters on this shit.

AOL kept up, and still keeps up. They make millions of dollars a month from people who are STILL paying for premium services (which have changed over time from high speed internet access to malware "scanning" which just installs more malware on your system, some shitty flash game sites, and other garbage).

There are actually people still stuck with 56k connections who have to use AOL too. Can you imagine having to use the Internet in 2019 with a connection that slow?

I'm still confused as to why they keep playonline going for ffxi. We know it's not a requirement, pservers manage just fine without it using jank-ass setups. You're telling me a billion dollar corporation can't figure it out? I think ffxi would legitimately get a 3-5% increase in players if they didn't have to spend 4 days downloading the game, or go to some third party website to download all the files then go through manually verifying caches.

Attached: 1551242121970.jpg (2048x2048, 600K)

By "not a requirement" do you mean to play FFXI online or to actually play FFXI in general? If everyone has accounts tied to PO (that aren't playing the Steam version) maybe the accounts could be the issue?

I admit that way back when, I loved the UI experience of loading into FFXI via PlayOnline. It felt like one of those isekai/MMO-style animu startups. Unfortunately, it was also cumbersome as all fuck with more than one account name and password, display name, etc. Its a pity they couldn't have kept the "soul" of the launcher for FFXIV (graphics, music options etc..) but just act "normal" when it comes to logging in

Hey, that's the thing you could use with Pokemon Crystal to trade and battle with other people wirelessly.

We know it's not required to play online at all, the accounts are the issue, but the issue above that issue is squenix refuses to remove playonline. I could understand with the ps2/360 still online, playonline was how it connected and it was nearly impossible to change it, but now that they ended support for both those platforms there's no excuse to keep everyone tethered to it. All the ffxi pservers out there have found workarounds for playonline, using only the basest of it's files to verify the files before launch.
