Gliding is pretty fucking good. But, in reality, it's a mixture of several different movement mechanics that blend together seamlessly. Double/triple jumping, sliding, gliding, wall jumping, etc. The key is to have sensible limits, combined with clever level design that forces you to utilize (or abuse) the mechanics.

This is why Mario 64 is such an incredible game.

Double jump is legitimately shit, it's only used as either a crutch or some way to gate progression. I have yet to play a game that actually makes good use of it.

Double jumping is baby mode.
If you had to make one big singular jump, then you would need to actually time it so you jump off the very edge of the starting platform.
However, devs put double jumps in games, because now they can space the platform far for a single jump, yet close for a double jump. Meaning, that if you only did a single jump, you'd surely fall in the pit. But by performing the double jump, you easily reach the platform.
As a player, you're being duped into thinking that you're actually performing well.

Dashes always feel better.

Hell no it doesn't! Both jumps in those game are tiny. You have to press jump twice every time you want to jump somewhere. They should have just given him one floaty jump.
The bigger problem those games have is the circle button "master thief" moves, which magnetize you to wires and cables. Every time you see one of those you can turn your brain off, jump in the general direction, mash circle, and Sly will zip to it like it's nothing. Very boring platforming.

I don't. I like the idea of it. I like the implementation of it in Gravity Rush and DMC5 though. As in KH2 nothing flows into eachother. Jumping from a run or a dodge transfers no momentum, Sora just pops straight upward. Dodging on the ground feels sticky, there's a noticeable start and stop to it. Don't like it at all.
Not that it matters, since you can just mash the attack button to have Sora homing attack onto enemies, making one wonder why there are all the movement options if the game positions Sora for them

But air dodging into a glide literally carries your momentum so that your glide starts at full speed. You dodge roll to use the invincibility frames and quick run to avoid attacks entirely. The only movement option with no real combat potential is high jump.
