Cloud, Barrett and Cid due to multi-hit limit breaks, although Yuffie's L3 works the same too and by end-game is better than Barrett's.

For random encounters? Fast forward as much as you want man. FF9 is the worst for that too, I can't even replay the game without the speed.

If there isn't an entire sub-quest line about dressing up pretty, i'm not fucking buying it.

Most of them are limit level 3 and up.
Clouds blade beam level 2 does hit more than 1 enemy but at reduced damage.

They're all pretty mid-late game. You can get them really early on, but you'll have to go out of your way and a bigger grind.

Tifa lets you steamroll through the game with the oversoul (you can use death force + death sentence before you get the cursed ring)
Barret because is cool af and my favourite since I was 10, plus catastrophe is multi-hit and you don't get missing score if he's not with you when you get to hojo (I still think that death penalty should have been on those stairs)

Ironically, if it was a turn based game that was also out of phones that would probably be true. If its in the FF15 mold with combat that's a interface mess and you need a console or a powerful PC it won't be accessible enough to get broad base appeal today.

Oh and limits work like this
For the first limit in a level all you need is kills
So 120 kills at limmit level 1 will unlock limit level 2 blade beam. To get the other limit for thast level you have to use the top one 8 times for cloud.
Tifa has all her limits go off no matter what limit level she is at because he chance to hit miss or crit is determed by the slot reels.

Just don't think about it so seriously? There's honestly no harm in speeding up the gameplay or turning off encounters if you're overleveled or past an area. As for the max stats/limit cheat? Save that for a separate save to steamroll the game in a rerun.

i tried to use a fake save with black chocobo to basically have it where i left off from but it didnt work.

The marteria system is fun to use so far. It's nice being able to just buy and find skills while playing. Quick question though. How do I use the enemy skill marteria?

This man knows what he’s talking about. Tifa’s Oversoul makes the whole game a cakewalk with minimal effort. Barret is amazing throughout the whole game as well. Though I would say that for a third character, Yuffie or Cid are easier to set up to get that big damage.

Is it just me or is there forced texture smoothing on the switch port?

Bruh, the whole game is easy. FFVII is my favorite game of all time, but it's by far one of the easiest RPGs ever made and was the easiest entry in the series until FFXV came along.

Some can be missed, I would get an Enemy Skill list/guide up if you don't want to miss any. There are about 2 or 3 from the top of my head that are missable

My experiences tells me that Cloud, Yuffie, Barret is the best setup but Materia makes anyone viable

The game is easy enough that you can use anyone and beat it just fine. Strictly speaking Cloud, Cid, Barret, and Yuffie have the highest DPS potential, and Tifa literally carries the entire team in low-level challenges and speedruns, but for just playing regularly you really can use anyone at all

Because the game has good pacing and doesn't make you meander fields where random encounters mob you for long stretches.
Also the fights are juuust the right pace when you put the game on active w/ max speed.

Two enemy skill can be missed permanently: trine is used by two bosses only

pandora's box is used by a enemy in the last dungeon ONCE PER PLAYTHROUGH

I spoilered the names but you might want to check them to make sure you reload a save and equip the materia

Also, shadow flare, while not exactly permanent, can be missed until the last dungeon since is casted by ultima weapon on the one who gets the killing blow and you don't get a change to learn it again until the northern cave

I prefer non-random encounters myself, but for me FF7 was the most tolerable because it loads the battle faster than any other 3D turn based JRPG ever made. FF8 is fucking excruciatingly slow at loading the battle, twirling the camera around the enemy, and then watching as your characters slowly fade in, do some sort of prepare animation, and then finally being able to input a command. I don't understand how you can prefer FF8 in that regard, FF7 is like taking the weights off the baseball bat in comparison.

Started with the nes era
Played FFVII and OoT for the first time around 2010.
FFVII immediately became one of my all time favorites. I could see why OoT was a big deal at the time it came out but it did not hold up well.

Is the world map music fixed in Switch version yet? And are there any other problems? I've only played the PS1 version but still my favorite, would be nice in bed or on the crapper.

Just buy a 20-30 dollar telescopic bluetooth controller (I myself have a Ipega 9023) and play emulate it on your phone with Retroarch (I have a shitty Moto G5 and it runs flawlessly)

Yes, what it means is that, after using it once, that enemy won't use that skill for the rest of the game (for a script error iirc). So, should you see that without getting it on an enemy skill, just reload. Another enemy uses it, but you can't learn it at that point

I never even knew there were cheats in 7 8 and 9 re-releases honestly. I don't see the problem with shit like speedups or no encounters, they're not changing any difficulty they're just removing you wasting time on shit, or letting you do zero encounter challenge runs and stuff.
Only cheat I used in any of them besides speedup at points was max gil in ff8 for the achievement cause farming gil in that game is a sack of shit to do.

kimhari wasn't even unusable in 10, dunno what you're on about. 7 is the same, all characters are pretty much the same and can do anything depending on what you give them.
kimhari was still my strongest character the earliest for a long time in my first ffx playthrough without even intending to do so. the joys of taking never playing anything besides expert sphere grid

Ruby is the puzzle boss, you have to fight him exactly how he wants you to or it's almost impossible. He also has stupidly high defense which limits your offensive options. Emerald just has the big dick stats to wall you if your team isn't developed enough.

It literally has a cheat in the steam version to turn off encounters with a button press, just do that. It'll make the game overall less fun though unless you've done it before and seen all the monsters in all the areas and know what ones you want to fight

I have never played the original and I certainly won't with those character models. So I will play the remake. I won't buy it though since it's on PC, I'll download it.

The original PC version was based off of an unfinished build of the japanese version of the game. They had to rework the english script personally for porting into their version after they got the translated stuff from the PSX localization team (aka basically one guy) and then rework it personally for their own port, which is where some clean up and tweaks likely ensued in the midst of the scripting process of getting the japanese over to english for the port specifically.

Every port of VII after that was based off of the PC version.
