Make it work more like Exceed for Nero in that it doesn't just buff damage, it changes the way attacks work. Especially if there are reasons to prefer sub-maxed Focus attacks, because then managing focus becomes a thing where you have to determine when to intentionally whiff to get below a certain Focus point.

That's kinda similar to what I was thinking, in that Vergil's combos can become extended with different pauses or inputs as the Focus grows. The more focused the player is, the more technical of a character Vergil becomes.

Dante and Vergil can get out of hell anytime, Vergil would need to lose the Yamato somehow for them to actually be stuck and then there would need to be an enemy down there strong enough to give them a fight. Nero could use one more game to let him come to terms with his new family and become on par with Dante and Vergil in terms of power. After that, the series is going to have to shift to a younger protagonist again, such as Dante's child. A Sparda prequel is also possible but I still think it's just unlikely. We know all we need to know about him.

What's generally considered harder, S ranking DMD or S ranking HOH? I just got done with all S on DMD and I need a break but HOH can't be that hard if the enemies don't have trillions health because of SOS difficulty. Also that's a lot of abbreviations.

The problem missions are basically the exact same and you can cheese them the exact same. Also I'm pretty sure I used Super V on at least a couple of HOH missions and I still had enough points for an S rank so probably not that hard.

Dante's apparently a bleeding heart charity case with really no one else in his life to take care of.
He apparently just keeps giving other people who were effected by demons money to recover and often doesn't get much money due to the collateral he leaves and not wanting to bankrupt those he saves.

Yeah, focus was cool because it makes sense with Vergil as a character. Dante doesn't give a fuck so he does tons of shit. Vergil is focused so he does less but he does it really well.
I'd be very happy if they leaned more into unique character mechanics. Vergil only needs a little bit extra, I think. Trish will probably change something up with the loss of Sparda, so that could be interesting. It's pretty brave of them to take it away, honestly.
Lady might be better off with a major overhaul. Dante does most of her shit, and shooting was never really super satisfying. But maybe I'm the only one who thinks that.

Actually, Before the Nightmare goes out of its way to say that Nero and Kyrie have some financial problems too, just not as bad as Dante. Also I highly doubt he pays Nico, in the garage scene he says she "owes" him since he got her the Order documents.

Just give Lady a devil arm. Have her use Artemis. Normally humans can't use Devil Arms but they can make the exception with the excuse of Lady being fused with Artemis for a whole month, making them compatible

Trish could use weapons found in the environment to charge up and do damage with, or start with a set like Neros devil breakers that work similarly.

Lady could've picked up some abilities from getting DEMON'D that she now utilizes. Would make her interesting.

It already does absolutely insane things during the game but it would be great to imagine what she could manage.
You could just develop a power armor like Sams.

Learning your exceed swing timing and you'll be able to option out of any combo with either a level 0 version of a move and a level 1-3 version of a movie. Some arms like Punchlines basically have an entire moveset in them. Jump on a punchline shot and boost around hitting trash to mix things up.

Dante is very far in debt, so can never really make money. For reference, in episode 2 of the anime, Lady brings him a job and he refuses, even after being told it pays well. She reminds him he owes her, and he just tells her he owes so much to others he'd not be giving her the money anyway. His jobs typically involve collateral damage and don't always have someone to actually pay up, look at the Mallet Island incident and Fortuna. And remember DMC got destroyed before he even started working in 3, had to be rebuilt. 3 wasn't a paid job.

you have a few seconds to attack and then hit the button to transform again and you'll leave the mode early without spending any of the meter

DMC1 doesn't really have mid bosses. If you tally up the number of fights in each missions, and the total number of fights in the entire game, you'll see that you only fight each enemy type like half a dozen times or less. It's also worth noting that Psycho Siren is the theme for a third of the enemies in the game.

Royal Revenge is weaker but safer as it's a giant window to counter an attack fir decent damage.

Royal Release if done perfectly is a huge risk for massive damage. Otherwise it's a counter attack for incredible damage on its own.
