As far as I can tell everything Epic's done is make the space worse at now paid timed exclusivity of games the storefront had no hand in developing it fair game for everyone, I can't use games on the services that I prefer, and I can't buy them for prices I find more acceptable because Epic doesn't do key generation for publishers (and likely never will given their low percentage take for themselves). When I pirate a game its not linked to a launcher. It even offers not to add any system data or uninstaller so I can delete the folder on the spot if I tire of the game. There's also alternatives like downloading compressed versions if you have a data cap to worry about.

Steam isn't a monopoly,steam isn't actually bribing developers for timed exclusives on their fucking store

Developers are free to publish their games on whatever store they like , steam comes as the default since it's the most popular one but also the easiest place to publish your game since there's no bullshit curation police (see that 87 metacritic indie game getting refused by epic games because it "doesn't need their standards ") ,but they aren't actively preventing games on their store to be released somewhere else ,developers are free to put their games on 50 different stores if they want ,that is not the definition of a monopoly

Hell I hate epic for their exclusivity deals ,but if they were actually playing it fair with their "smaller cut so cheaper" games approach instead of stealing exclusives I'd actually buy stuff from them ,let's say a $60 game on steam is released on the same day on epic for $50 I'm pretty sure people would gladly embrace the initiative to actually try to move the industry forward.

But as it is now tim Sweeney is an insufferable cunt and their exclusivity bullshit is making me pirate their games if I'm actually interested in them ,for not giving choice to the consumer ,I haven't pirated for 10+years prior to this

AAA studios are not swimming in money either, except for a few extremely successful f2p games and rockstar everyone is surviving on razor thin margins. That's why everyone is quick to jew out with games as a service and ditching steam.

Timed exclusivity is fine. Just wait out the exclusivity period of pirate the game.

The problem is that Valve hasn't done any hard work. There wouldn't be competitors 'stealing' their customers away if Valve hadn't been idle for 10 years raking in huge bonuses off the back of devs.

I'm starting to get the impression that the EGS is actually a project from Valve to make people like Steam again.

For all the resources that they get they clearly haven't put much in improving the Steam platform but at the same time the Steam platform is 100x better than the shitpile offered by Epic and it won't ever be as good as Steam simply because Epic are a bunch of elitist dickheads who treat their customers like paypiggies. Their stance on user-reviews should be enough to permanently turn away anyone with an ounce of self-respect.
