is this the peak of FPS combat?
Is this the peak of FPS combat?
no
well what is then
nuDoom
not that game that's for sure
>only a handful of enemies on screen
>locked arena combat environments
>cinematic kills that break the flow of combat
>handful of enemies on screen
There are fights with 20+ enemies, more than FEAR ever throws at you
>locked arena combat environments
I'll give you this one, being locked in arenas over and over got tiresome after a while, and it got worse when the game starts locking doors behind you, blocking backtracking
>cinematic kills that break the flow of combat
Literally a crutch for casuals in easy and normal mode, on Nightmare mode going into one of those animations is very likely to kill you or leave you with less health than when you began the glory kill. Literally just shoot the enemy one more time, you're never forced to use the finishing kills.
FEAR's combat is pretty bad outside of the slow mo.
Yes, despite the fact its flawed, not a single FPS came close.
no
This, I loved it back in the day but replaying it recently, it's not really as fantastic as these nostalgia goggle wearing faggots seem to think. Still fun, but the gunplay feels kind of limp outside of the super powerful weapons you get later on and the slow mo.
Best at being FPS and horror. Together
Every single weapon feels powerful, even the pistols are broken.
The only bad weapon I can think of is the shitty assault rifle from Perseus Mandate.
>cinematic thrash with shit gameplay where it feels like you're shooting at paper + regenerating health slowing the gameplay down to a crawl on higher difficulties
"No."
wrong. cod 1 was better.
Kino AI by far.
The SMG feels like it's shooting BBs and it sounds like that too. The shotgun feels shitty unless you're 0.1 feet away from the enemy and they explode completely when shot
>make game that's supposed to be horror
>enemies are generic military men
BRAVO
all soldiers are evil
There's absolutely nothing horror about FEAR, the premise of the game is fucking shit. It's like they couldn't decide between a generic military shooter or a proper horror game and went with both. The ''scary'' elements feel completely out of place.
original Doom
so its shit thank you. next.
In terms of fun, I don't think I've played a more enjoyable fps than Call of Juarez: Gunslinger.
>There's absolutely nothing horror about FEAR
Except for all the horror sequences?
Based retard
No but it’s pretty fucking good the A.I is so great I honestly can’t think of a modern fps that’s comparable.
I want to like this but the fucking jumpscares aren't for me. The creepy music and stuff is great but then every once in a while they have to give you this loud music sting as some guy stands behind a corner. That's not scary. That's just loud and annoying.
>scary girl with black hair covering her face and a tacticool army vs The One with slow motion powers
2000's horror, action and sci-fi in a nutshell
As far as i've searched Day of Infamy is pretty close to FEAR 1's level of AI competence. Too bad they don't feign death or do tactical retreats and ambushes.
Gore+jumpscares != Horror
A real horror game is something like Soma
I don't know what to say if you consider FEAR's shotgun weak.
Do you expect every weapon to be the Bear Killer?
