Why would any developer in this day and age make a sprite based game? If you want to make a sidescroller, fine(they're extremely limiting in design compared to 3d games but whatever thats on you). But why sprite? 3d models allows more freedom and is way easier to do. For instance:
-movesets for player characters and enemies are harder in sprites since you have to draw every single sprite, with 3d models you just make the model, make some animations and bada bing bada boom, you're done
-want different outfits for characters/enemies? with sprites you gotta redraw the ENTIRE sprite sheet. 3d models, just make the new costume, put it on the model, bada bing bada boom you're good
-environments are way easier too, just generate a map, put some shit in it, bada bing bada boom, you're done. Sprites? You gotta draw all the fucking tiny ass tiles and shit, you know how much work that is?
Sprites are way too much work compared to 3d models. You gotta be a damn grandmaster artist if you wanna make good quality shit, at least old school snes/ps1 quality sprites. No wonder most indie shit is nes and gameboy looking crap. If you use 3d models, you can make way better shit with less effort, look at Bloodstained, game looks gorgeous, and its way easier to make. If Iga used sprites, man that shit wouldn't come out til like 2025 or some shit lol
pic related, looks nice and all, but 3d models would look better and be so much easier
op is right, I tried to do a sprite game, realized how hard it was and quit. I then moved on to unreal engine 4, and literally in like a week I made a full stage with characters and enemies in it, it was so easy
Isaac Russell
hollow knight would be so much better with 3d models
Brayden Torres
Because for some, they're are more aesthetic and might fit the style the game is going for
>Why would any developer in this day and age make a sprite based game Your picture shows why, because it looks fucking way better 99% of the time. Unless they put in the effort like they do when making gg xrd or dragons crown or some shit, it looks like absolute cheap and low quality trash. And nobody puts in that effort to their modelling unfortunately.
Your pic literally looks 10x better than bloodstained pics we've seen so far, simply because of that
it takes way more work to make sprites look good though, more than 3d, hence so many crappy nes looking games

>they're extremely limiting in design Designing within a limited framework and pushing against those limits is where fuckin` magic happens.
Thomas Williams
>sprites are limited in detail Your point? It still has some kind of "nostalgic"-esque aesthetic that some would want And I'm not saying sprites are better or worse, what I'm trying to say is that some would want to make a game that appeals to to a certain type of people that like the style or that it might just fit the style the game is in But yes, sprites are harder to do nowadays than just 3d models
m8, it looks like dogshit compared to what it could look like with top tier effort modeling or sprites. it looks janky, assets look cheap and flimsy. look at the cogwheels, they look like some shit a student could make for a project, they do not blend, everything pops out because it's all fucking shitty models. now look at the initial screenshot you posted, everything looks smooth and rounded as fuck, every asset doesn't pop the fuck out blindingly obviously. bloodstained looks like all sorts of shit thrown together that shouldn't fit and don't blend properly. cheap 3d modelling and flash looking fucking animations are the two shittiest looking kinds of games we have to put up with. it's a travesty, things should only have improved over time but some styles have regressed incredibly. look at this shit, it's just as bad as bloodstained
now compare this to bloodstained. shit actually fits together and doesn't look like just a bunch of assets pulled from all over the place and hobbled together. like fuck me, i dunno how you cunts can defend shitty cheap looking work lads
that's streets of rage 4 my friend, very much an actual not website game. don't get me wrong, the gameplay looks good, but the shit art design is a disaster
Michael Gray
yeah well to make something like that requires tons of work, its not fair to expect Iga to work with sprites
Lucas Cooper
These are 3d models. There's nothing stopping models being amazing too, it also just requires tonnes of work. What the fuck do you think it's their job to do? Tonnes of work to put out great products m8. Not minimal work to push out cheap products lad
